Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 109: A Different Point of View

With the fight settled the two companions rested for a while, the fight had been truly entertaining for them both. Being able to test out their new skills was also welcomed by them both.

Whilst just seeing the skills one could get an intuitive understanding of what the skill did, it only went so far. Being able to test it out in the field was infinitely more useful.

Soon enough Rhyana and Susan joined the two down in the valley. "That looked like a tough fight, are you two alright?" The dogkin asked with a slightly worried tone.

It was Luna who ho replied. "Yeah we're alright, was a fun fight! Got to test out our new skills, plus feels like a while since it was just the two of us fighting together so it was nice to get back to that!" Violet hummed and bobbed her head in agreement at that statement, she too had thourghly enjoyed the battle!

With a slight frown on her face Susan looked at the two of them and asked hesitantly. "Y-you enjoyed the fight? It looked really dangerous though, didn't you fear being injured or even killed?"

Susan did struggle to understand that point of view. For most of her life she was both one of the weakest people present and at the bottom of the social hierarchy. So when people got violent or engaged in fights it was people like her that would end up suffering.

Even during her journey here was frought with peri, to the point that even her friend who was a dragon raised in a cruel crucible of controlled violence was reluctant to engage in many fights. Where at all possible they would only battle foes that were around or slightly below them in terms of raw strength. Any time they were forced to battle whilst outnumbered or against stronger foes they always fought defensively. Or with the intent to hold them back until they were able to escape.

So to hear that the two people before her would willingly speak out a battle against foes of similar or greater strength, and then not retreat when great numbers arrived to overwhelm them. Say that they enjoyed the fight and considered it as a good was to test out new skills? It was an alien concept to her and she was unsure of how to react.

"I mean sure it was dangerous, but how else are we supposed to grow? I'm a dragon, I won't go around challenging those who are weaker than me. If I want a fight I will naturally seek out those who are worthy of battling against. Not to say I won't slaughter any weaklings who dare to attack me like those little fire snakes but the point still stands!"

Luna chuckled at Violet's awkward speech, she really was too precious. And arrogant, but Luna had long become used to her companions nature and had learnt to enjoy that side of her.

But sensing the confusion still present on Susan's face Luna chose to speak up to help clarify what Violet meant. "You have to remember that Violet has been fighting against foes stronger than herself ever since she was born. Heck she had to fight for her life within hours of being born. And whilst I wasn't exactly born fighting like her, I too have learnt that you have to be strong if you want to survive in this world."

"And the best way to grow stronger faster is to challenge enemies that are either stronger than you or have overwhelming numbers on their side. The entire thing with the Star Fruits is a great example of that. Say how did you two actually get through the different domains? Did you battle the beasts in each domain or did you run through and avoid combat where possible?"

Caught off guard by that question Susan took a moment to answer. "We tried to avoid combat, there was no need to waste our strength fighting everything that came across us. We still had plenty of battles but we avoided just as many."

Hearing that Violet chose to speak up. "And how many levels did the two of you gain?"

"I gained 5 levels that day!" Susan said with obvious pride in her voice. "I am now level 56!"

When Violet then turned to look at Rhyana the blue dragon spoke up. "I gained 6 levels, I'm a bit ahead of Susan at level 59."

Nodding in understanding at that Violet spoke up. "See that is the problem with being safe, sure you may gain some levels but that's not always enough. I was level 49 before we entered the central valley and I was level 60 when we left it. Luna was about the same. We fought everything that got in our way, because of that we gained so much."

Then after watching the stunned look on both girls faces with a feeling of pride in both herself and Luna's achievement, Violet continued. "So yes we enjoy fighting because it lets us get stronger, but we also enjoy it because it is just fun!" Luna just nodded in agreement at her companions words. Whilst maybe not how she would have put it the overall sentiment was quite correct.

Susan frowned at that, obviously taking some time to truly understand exactly what they both meant. And secretly wondering if she made the right decision to join up with these two, as they are clearly both slightly mad!

Rhyana meanwhile remained silent, it was a strange point of view for her to understand. Whilst yes she has found enjoyment in some fights, she has always viewed them more as a means to an end. Growing up she had to battle to survive and eat, yet these were fights forced onto her, not ones she herself had sought out. Then when she was free she didn't want to engage in needless battles for risk of death.

Yet these two women before her seemed to have a fundamentally different view on violence and battle as a whole. For them having to fight for survival is not an extreme event, but a fact of life. And as such they had learnt to embrace it, or maybe they never had to learn that and simply knew it to be a fact all their life.

So was it not natural for them both to have developed an enjoyment for that aspect of their lives?

Was this perhaps what it meant to be wild? To embrace all aspects of life, regardless of if that is dangerous or not? Rhyana didn't know, but she felt like she was on the right track.

Either way she had plenty of time to figure things out. And was in no rush to learn more.
