The two sides dashed towards each other, magic being flung forth by the advancing beasts. The monsters seemed to lack any meaningful ranged options for combat, at least based on the previous clash. So Susan did not bother putting up too strong of a barrier during the dash forwards, instead focusing her entirety on readying some of her best offensive magics and skills.
Highly pressurised jets of water shot forth, sliding through the ants flesh and chitin like a hot knife through butter. Susan did not keep the jet up for too long, only a few seconds time, yet during that short timeframe several of the ants were sliced apart. The water jet punched through anything in their path, only dispersing somewhat after the 3rd foe it sliced through.
With the foes in front of them momentarily reeling from her attack, Rhyana was able to charge into the breach unopposed. Then a moment later a resounding boom sounded out.
The two sides having finally met in mele, claws, teeth, tails, mandibles and tentacles clashed. A cacophony of violence and death rang out as both sides savaged each other. Rhyana now well within the front line of their foes became all but a blur, moving at high speeds she dashed from one foe to the next. Her lightning jumping from her claws whenever she struck an ant.
The foe would promptly freeze up as the lightning tore through its body, allowing one of Susan's bubbles to land on its head, only to pop a moment later and dealing concussive damage to whomever it hit. The two worked together, always moving from one foe to the next. Rhyana not going for the kill per say, but instead focusing on hiring as many ants as possible with her lightning.
Susan focused on the killing blows where possible, a trail of bubbles forming in her wake creating an impassible wall of death for any any foolish enough to try cross it. Her bubbles however, would not pop when encountered by one of their 'allies', it would simply act like a balloon, and floating away.
Not like many of the beasts dared to dive as deep into the enemy lines like they did anyway. The only beasts that apparently were able to go so deep was the Earth Wyrm and the roc, the former acting as an immovable bulwark, holding back any and everything that approached it. The Wyrms thick stony hide all but impervious to the monsters attacks. The latter flew above the battlefield, sending blades of wind down into the army of monsters, cutting through their defences and releasing pressure wherever it passed by.
In fact it was only due to Rhyana, Susan, the wyrm and roc's efforts that the front line of the beast army did not entirely buckle under the relentless assault. The regular beasts, whilst ferocious in their own way, were simply unable to handle the raw ferocity and single mindedness of the monsters advance. They did not care how many of their brethren died, they would still charge forwards unairingly towards the nearest beast.
The beasts on the other hand had a sense of self's preservation, so when they saw dozens of their kin be torn apart before them they unconsciously hesitated. That hesitation delayed their reaction by a moment, and that moment was all that was needed for one of the ants to capitalise on their mistake and claim yet another life.
This was in direct contrast to the Storm Touched, they did not falter under the assult of the ants. Working together just as flawlessly, if not better than their foes. For the canines did not actively attack their own brethren, instead they worked like a true pack. Presenting a united front, taking turns to clash with their foes and never leaving one of their own to be overwhelmed.
The magics of the Storm Touched was also a deciding factor. Lightning jumped from ant to ant, wind blades cut through limbs and water bullets punched holes through chitin.
So the outer edges of the beast formation held, and only the center faltered.
But that was what the two companions and the 5 beast lords were there for. The rest of the lords finally arrived at the front lines, only reaching it after dozens of their subjects perished before them. Whilst these lords may be weak for their tier, they were still 4th tier beasts with all the advantages that advancement provided.
They managed to hold the line, fighting back with all they had. Each one of them becoming a stationary pillar of support that the rest of the beast were able to rally behind.
Rhyana and Susan, along with the roc overhead however, acted as the proverbial spear tip. Breaking the monsters formation before they arrived at the front. Whilst they may not kill every foe that they encountered, they did maim most.
They left behind a wake of burnt, disoriented monsters that struggled to put up any meaningful resistance to the beasts assult. Still whilst they managed to grasp an early advantage, the horde of monster ants was seemingly endless. It didn't matter how many died, for as soon as one perished two more stood forth to take its place.
The unrelenting nature of these monster ants was enought to worry the assembled beasts, yet they refused to back down. Knowing that doing so would just lead to their deaths now that things had become so chaotic, maybe only the avian beasts stood a solid chance to escaping, yet with their leader being one of the few lords to not shrink from its role they too refused to flee.
Whilst the two army's clashed Violet, Luna and the Orthrus were not idle.
The presence clash lasted for several more seconds after the initial clash of the army. Yet when it was clear that no winner would be had Violet decided that it was about time for her to make a move of her own.
So she began to form a magic circle above her head, the lines of nothingness etching themselves into reality itself. Mana gathered, the circle ever expanding at it was supercharged with more mana that it was designed to hold. Until, it was finally ready to be cast.
RROOOARRR!
Violet let loose a mighty roar, imbued with her dragon aura skill a wave of power washed out from her position. Ever ally that heard it felt a slight boost in strength and speed, ever for that heard it felt their bodies freeze up momentarily, even the might soldier ants up atop the wall of rubble froze for a fraction of a second.
And a fraction of a second was all that Violet needed to unleash her void cannon.
A concentrated blast of violet void mana erupted from the magic circle above her, crossing the distance between Violet and the soldier ant in the single instant that it froze up.
Still even thought its body might have frozen, its mind was not. And a creature at that level of power was often able to exert control over its body with nothing but its mind, even if its body would normally refuse to move.
So in that moment dozens of undulating limbs erupted from the back of the ant, chitin blades covering their length. They cross crossed in from of the creature, interlocking in an attempt to block Violet's opening move.
Then the world turned purple as the attack hit, a shockwave erupted out, flattening everything within a dozen meters from the point of impact and killing several of the lesser ants. A cloud of dust and debris was kicked up from the explosion of force.
A moment of silence blanketed the battlefield as all eyes were drawn to the origin point of the explosion, all wondering if the soldier had managed to survive that cataclysmic attack.
Then a sound was heard, it was a mix between a skreech and that of hundreds of souls screaming all mixed into an unholy mixture that unsettled all who heard it. And with a surge of power the debris cloud was blown away, revealing the creature still standing tall and glaring at Violet with pure malice in its eyes.
