Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 96: Battle for the Stars (9)

The guardians head rocketed backwards from the force of Violet's void cannon.

A deafening boom sounded out as the giants head impacted with the barrier surrounding the Star Tree. Dust and debris was similarly kicked up obscuring what transpired.

Silence resounded in the clearing as all the assembled beast traced back the blast of void to its source. A void dragon stood in place, blood and viscera covering her form from the mad beasts she had just put down.

The lingering mana from her attack crackled around her. Thin crack in the fabric of existence itself appearing for a brief moment before healing.

Attention was once more brought back to the guardian as a mournful wail resounded, starting low but continually increasing in intensity as time passed.

The guardians head once more became visable as it rose from out of the dust cloud. Showing to all the impact that singular spell had against it.

Nearly half of the beasts head was simply gone. One of its mighty mandibles was entirely missing along with everything that connected to it. Black icor was only now beginning to pour out from the wound, the wail turning haggard as blood mixed into the sound.

No one or thing moved for a prolonged moment as they all tried to recover from the dissipation of the vast mana outpouring from the guardian, then from shock at witnessing Violet's spell.

Yet that stillness was quickly broken when a certain white haired young woman dashed forward and leapt into the air. Her spear elongated with jagged ice and biting cold before piercing into the open wound with a sickening shlunk.

Then the clearing once more exploded into action. Spells once more flew and beasts once more dove into the battle.

The guardian was reeling from the double blow of the void cannon and icy stab. Well at least one half of it was, the second head was still somewhat in control of its actions.

For the first time it uncurled from around the tree and tried to coil the injured head within itself. However no beast present was willing to allow it to do so.

Spears of stone rose up and stabbed into the injured head, only to be joined by lances of ice that priced deep. The chitin covering the guardians head began to frost over, only to crack as a condensed bolt of lightning crashed down atop the head.

Sensing that it would be unable to truly protect its injured head via defense the guardian instead opted for a strong offensive.

Thorn filled vines sprouted from countless places around the clearing whilst several emerald green flowers bloomed around the giants body. As the vines whipped out to try and constrict the surrrounding beasts the flowers rapidly grew until they reached over 5 meters tall. Then with a crack the flowers exploded, sending seeds flying out in all directions at breakneck speed.

The assembled beast quickly dove to the side or erected defensive barriers to try and ensure the onslaught. Violet opted to summon a void shield whilst preparing to dive to either side when her shield inevitably broke under the salvo of seeds. For the swaying vines she cut them apart with her claws.

Saddly though some of the beast were not so lucky or responsive and several beasts were caught by the vines, blood began to flow as they dug into whatever flesh they could. Then came the seed barrage, those beasts that were ensnared seemed to have to face a larger number of seeds. Dozens to hundreds aimed at the imobile ones.

It was a slaughter, the seeds seemed not to care about whatever armour each possessed, for when the seeds struck they peirced right through the beasts body.

Shortly after 6 beasts dropped dead to the ground, their mutilated corpse showing just how powerful this guardian is. Yet this did not deter the remaining beasts, they renewed their assult magic, claw and tooth being put to work.

The carapace of the guardian slowly becomes inundated with cuts and nicks. Yet after the devastating void cannon unleashed by Violet no other beast seems able to fully peirce the impressive defence of the giant. That does not seem to deter the arrayed beasts, if anything it only works to motivate them to work smarter, hit harder and coordinate better.

The trunked beast is once again assulting the uninjured head. Ensuring that it is allowed no reprieve and that it can no go to aid its other head. Said head is in a truly sorry state.

Some of the more powerful ranged attackers are now focused on it. The ice elemental seems to truly be going all out now.

A cold blizzard swirls around its crystalline form, the very ground around it freezing over as the biting winds spread. Above its head thin lines of frost seem to be forming in the very air itself. A magical circle slowly takes shape as mana pours out from the elemental as it charges a truly powerful spell.

The chimera too is engaging the beleaguered head in close combat. It is currently standing on the face of the guardian, managing to avoid the one remaining mandible by staying on the open wound.

The golden glow of the beast intensifies and its feathers are launched regularly from its body, piercing deep into the exposed flesh before detonating in muted explosions of gold. Meanwhile the beasts claws also glow gold as it tears apart the damaged chitin plating coving the rest of the head.

By the chimeras side Luna is going to work in the remaining eyes of the head, making quick work of them as she dances around. The head does not make this easy with erratic movements and the occasional thorn flying towards them. Yet Luna manages to avoid most of the projectiles, only taking some superficial wounds in the process.

Soon though, the ice elemental is ready with its spell. A circle easily over a meter in diameter floats above the creature. Frost covers the bloody soil around it making it look like it is floating above a sea of rubies.

From the circle a condensed beam of frost shoots out and connects with the center of the injured head. Upon connecting to it billowing chill begins to spread from the impact point. Yet that is only a prelude to the upcoming attack, noticing this both Luna and the chimera dive away from the guardian, and not a moment too soon as the true attack is finally unleashed.

A jagged spear of ice over 7 meters in length slowly extends from the circle following the connecting beam of frost. When the full extent of the spear is formed it pauses for a moment before flying forward with devastating force.

It travels the distance in the blink of an eye, the impact is surprisingly quiet, simply for the fact that the armoured chitin seems to pose no resistance to the spear. It pierces fully, ending up extending partially out of the back of the head. The guardian freezes for a moment before a shudder runs through the rest of the body. Then with an echoing sound of shattering glass the spear explodes.

Shards of bloodied ice erupt from the guardians head in ball directions, the uninjured head lets loose a harrowing cry of pain that forms a crack in the protective dome overhead.

This sound is shortly followed by a meaty thud, quickly follows by the sound of multiple splatters as the rain of viscera joins the head on the ground.
