Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven

Chapter 149: Ice Palace

Ved outstretched his hand and touched the place where the snow disappeared. The moment his finger touched it, he felt his body being dragged inside.

He felt like his body was stretching like a noodle then his vision changed and he found himself in a place of endless snow and ice.

Dark clouds covered the sky for as far as he could see, the temperatures were so cold even his breath froze. This place was as cold as the storms outside but there were no storms here.

He couldn't even image how cold it would be then. With no other choise he started walking, his feet leaving deep footprints on the snow.

After walking a few kilometres Ved felt something creeping behind him but when he turned he didn't see anything.

Then he turned around and continued walking but kept his attention on his back. As expected, something jumped out of the snow and lunged at him.

It was a pure white feline creature. It white fangs and claws gleamed like metal as it tried to bite him.

This was a rank 4 creature, taking it down without his traits will not be easy. Ved swung his tail and slashed at the giant cat.

It reflexes were incredibly high, it spun mid air and dodged his attack. Ved wasn't surprised by this, he has expected it actually.

Which is why he attacked the moment it dodged. He punched, the air exploded infront of his fist sending a wave of cold air blasting out like a cannon.

His fist was too fast, it turned into a blur and reached the cat in a blink of an eye. It had no way to dodge it and Ved knew it.

His fist landed but the expected feeling of fist meeting flesh did not occur, instead he felt like he hit a clump of snow.

The cat suddenly turned into snow and disappeared. Ved was surprised, he had expected some defensive move but not for it to turn into snow.

Before he could react, claws slashed his back but failed to break through his scales only leaving a white mark.

Even though he couldn't use his traits, iron scales was still working passively, though not as effective as before.

To this day Ved didn't understand why iron scales was the only trait that worked without his will.

He had figured out that although the traits were classified as independent they were still heavily linked to the trait assimilation ability.

Which is why he couldn't use them without his will like the rest of his body. He turned his attention back to the cat.

After it had attacked him, it hid in the snow again. Ved couldn't see it and with soul sense, it was impossible to find it with just his eyes.

So he did the only thing he could think off. He slapped the ground as hard as he could. The ice below cracked for tens of kilometres, creating deep ravines.

The shockwave formed towering waves of snow that spread in every direction like an avalanche. When the mayhem ended there was barely any snow left around him for 6 over kilometres.

The cat had nowhere else to hide, Ved lunged at it, he couldn't exert his body too much but even so, he was still physically stronger than this cat.

Before he reached it, it split into two, then two to four, then four to eight, they split up every moment, in a blink of an eye he was facing hundreds of them.

No matter how much Ved looked at them he couldn't tell them apart. The cats started running around him trying to circle him.

Then they lunged at him at once. He swung his tail shattering one of them into a pile of snow.

Bit another and crashed two with his hands. However before he could rejoice they merged back up becoming whole again.

Ved sighed, ' This is going to be troublesome isn't it.' the cats kept lunging at him, eventually he found it hard to keep up with their numbers.

However the good thing was, their claws still couldn't break thought his scales so no matter how many of them there were they couldn't hurt him.

Just as he thought that, one of them slashed through his scales. Blood spurted out and dyed the snow red.

A piercing cold entered through the wound weakening him rapidly. Ved gritted his teeth through the pain.

His regeneration trait kicked in or so he wished but the wound remained open with no sign of regeneration and the cold energy made him bleed even more.

He sighed, he had become too dependent on his traits but who could blame him, they were awesome.

The other cats continued attacking him but Ved ignored them and tried to find the one who caused this wound.

Ved had figured it out, the other cats weren't exact copies but merely weak clones made of snow to confuse the enemy.

The one that wounded him was the real cat, if he found it, this fight would be as good as over but finding it was not easy, not in the mix of all the others.

Hundred of cats continued swarming him, their teeth and claws breaking against his scales.

Just as he turned to attack another cat, the main one attacked again, he didn't see until it was too late, thinking it was one of the clones again.

It slashed his side, blood dripped to the snow below. Ved released released a low growl of pain and rage.

In his fury he slashed and bit all the clones around himself but this berserk state was the perfect opportunity the cat needed.

In only a few moments he had already been attacked dozen of times leaving gruesome gashing wounds on his body.

But Ved was not a fool, how could the king of beasts become berserk and lose his mind because of something like this.

He was waiting, clones attacked him one after another but he waited, baiting. Then it came, claws ripped through his scales drawing long gashes.

This was what he was waiting for, the moment it attacked, he locked on it this time, his arm lashed out faster than it could react.

It cat reflexes were not enough to dodge him, he grabbed it faster than an eye could blink. Without wasting a moment he snapped it neck and killed it immediately.

It defences were incredibly low so killing it was easy. It clones turned into snow, and disappeared, after eating it he left.

Ved walked for weeks, his wounds still bleeding, leaving a trail of blood behind, then he saw something in the distance. A huge shadow hidden behind the curtain of the snowstorm.

It looked like a massive palace, Ved approached it slowly and cautiously and it was actually a palace. A huge palace of ice with a towering blue gate, the gate was partially opened.

He climbed the stairs of ice and entered the palace, what he came to was a massive throne hall, at the end of the hall was a glowing blue throne of ice.

Ved felt a sense of desire when he laid his eyes upon this throne but it was too small for him to sit on.

So he wrapped his massive body around it, the moment he did, his wounds, including the cracks on his soul started healing faster but he noticed the glow on the throne was dimming in the process.

' Doesn't matter, as long as I can heal.'
