Ved didn't respond, his eyes softened when he looked at her, he lowered his head towards her.
"Clank" her vessel fell on the palace floor. She outstretched her hand touched his snout.
They stood like that for a few moments then tears started falling down her eyes. " Why?" She whispered softly in a muffled voice.
" Why did you leave me?" Tears fell like rivers running down her cheeks. Ved did not reply, he didn't know what to say, how to comfort her.
She hugged his face tightly then started hitting him while bawling her eyes out. Ved didn't stop her, he let her vent.
Tears fell down his face as well. After a while she stopped crying, her eyes were red. They stood in silence for minutes.
She was still hugging him tightly as if afraid he would disappear. " What happened?" She asked softly.
' A lot.' he replied, he has no idea where to start explaining, infact he doesn't even understand what really happened himself. She looked into his eyes," How did you..you know?" She pointed at him.
Ved grinned, ' Become a dragon?' she nodded. ' That a long story. Do you want to hear it?'
She nodded, they sat down and Ved started narrating his entire life since he reincarnated. He told her about the fights he had been in.
She laughed when he told her about how he had start out as a tiny lizard eating caterpillars and poisonous berries to survive. " That sounds so cute, wish I was there to see it." She continued laughing, Ved pouted which looked strange for a dragon.
He did keep some details to himself, especially about his system, he did tell her about the conditions for his evolution though after she asked about his lack of essence.
Not the entire thing, just that he needed consume a lot of meat to evolve. He told her about White and the others.
She listened to everything with curiosity, sometimes a flicker of surprise would appear in her eyes.
However he severely downplayed how dangerous most of those situations were, he didn't want to worry her.
It took hours to narrate his entire life, he did skip a lot of minor details though. Then she started telling him about hers.
She talked enthusiastically, mentioning Cat and the others, Ved laughed when she talked about Cat, she sounded tired. If her subordinates saw her now, they would be greatly surprised.
The cold ice queen that barely smiles, talking and laughing like a teenage girl seeing her crush, it would be a sight. Naledi continued talking for hours without a care in the world.
Ved listened to her without interrupting, he felt happy, much happier than he had ever been since he reincarnated.
He couldn't explain it, it had been so long since he last saw or talked to her yet, his heart still pounded when he saw her smile.
His blood feels cold when he heard her voice, her eyes, even though a different colour now still drew him in like an endless abyss he couldn't escape.
He felt peaceful with her around, he felt whole again, like he had finally found a missing part of himself.
Naledi's voice grew softer and softer until it became mumbles then it was quiet. Ved looked down and saw her sleeping but her brows were furrowed.
She kept shifting as if she was having nightmares. " Ple..ase, don't leave me." She whispered in her sleep.
He wrapped his body around her, his wing shielded her from above even though there was no need to inside the palace.
Then he softly puffed dream mist on her face, he felt her will resist and he was greatly surprised. Her will was incredibly dense, even more than his.
The only other person Ved had met who had a will denser than his was the monk but after the recent soul damage, Ved wondered if that was still true.
Yet hers was still much denser than him. He wondered what she had to go through for her will to be this dense, because he knows it wasn't because of religious belief like the monk.
He felt a bit sad and whispered to reassure her. ' Shh, it okay, I'm here now.' she seemed to have heard him, her expression eased a little.
She stopped resisting and allowed the dream mist to effect her. Ved couldn't effectively conjure a dream for someone like her.
His will was not strong enough but he did give it a direction, vague instructions. The dream mist conjured a peaceful dream for her, even though he couldn't enter her dreams, he could tell it was good, it atleast better than her last.
Her expression shifted and she relaxed, her body slumped and she slept peacefully. Ved couldn't sleep, he sat there watching her sleep like a creep.
Then he saw the ring on her finger and smiled. ' She kept it.' time passed and she woke up two days later.
She yawned and rubbed her eyes. " How long was asleep?" Ved smiled at her, ' Not long?'
They sat in silence for a while not knowing what to say to each other. Then she broke the silence, " So.. have you been seeing anybody else? And if you did, you should know I'm totally okay with it"
He looked at like she was crazy, ' I was a lizard, who would date a lizard?' she leaned on him, " If it's you, I would."
He smiled, ' Flattering, I remember when you used to ask me if I would still love you if you were a worm."
She giggled, " And you thought those questions were ridiculous,( " By the old Gods Naledi that's impossible, that would never happen." ) Look you at you now "
She mimicked him then laughed, ' Then it's a good thing I answered correctly.' " Yeah you did, though I know you just said yes because you were annoyed."
' Whaaat, that's not true, I would never be annoyed at you.' he avoided eye contact with her and whistled, which would've shattered a normal human's eardrums.
' By the way, have you been seeing anybody?' he asked skeptically, not that he could blame her if she did, it had been 97 years since he died " God no, but I've had a few suitors, one of them is really persistent though." She frowned with disgust.
Ved felt anger rise inside him, Naledi sensed it as well. She smiled mischievously, " Is somebody jealous?"
He scoffed, ' Me, jealous? Who do you think I am, I'm the great dragon Ved.' he puffed up his chest.
She giggled, " Yes, yes oh mighty dragon God. I'm really glad I found you again." She whispered softly, "I was tired of telling Vermillion I have a fiance, now I can prove it."
The moment Ved heard that name, his aura blasted out shaking the entire throne hall. Naledi looked at him, " Is something wrong?"
