Ved saw White on her knee, she looked rough. Infront of her stood a group of humans nearly a hundred strong.
Around her was her own army with only 24 members remaining and a few corpses. White's army had lost.
Although spiritual beasts with a lineage were renowned for being strong amongst their peers, they weren't unbeatable.
There were other unique races like elves who wield incredibly powerful magic and Ahnunaki with unique abilities who can easily defeat most spiritual beasts of the same rank and grade.
And humans can easily breach the gap using their artefacts. So in truth, lineages made beasts one of the strongest races but not the strongest.
So it was understandable why White would lose, her opponents had artefacts more advanced than any made on earth and she was outnumbered.
Seeing this scene, Ved felt anger bubble inside him. He opened his mouth slightly, dream mist spilled out and covered the land for tens of kilometres.
Through the mist he can see the humans panicking, he grinned. " Let me show you fear."
----------------------------------------------------------
Adebayo was a priest in training for the church of Dawn. He dedicated his entire life to his faith and not once had he ever failed.
This time he received a mission to accompany the child of some noble to conquer some new born world and spread the great word of Dawn.
His mission had went smoothly, the humans of this world were desperate, the heretic races who deny the word of Dawn had oppressed them enough.
So when he came and gave them hope, they latched into it firmly. They readily accepted the great word.
He further learnt the people of this world already worshipped Gods before so it was easy to convince them when he displayed to them the might of the great Dawn.
However he was then ordered to convert the spiritual beasts of this world as well. He was confused, although there were spiritual beasts who worshipped Dawn, there were only a few.
It was a well established fact that beasts believe in their bloodlines more than anything, not to mention he didn't think those lower lifeforms deserved the grace of his lord.
However he was a servant, his purpose was to obey without question and so he did. He tried to spread the word amongst the beasts.
But as he had expected, they refused the benevolence of his lord and so he did what must be done.
He freed them of their sinful lives and sent them to a better place where they can repent.
However unsurprisingly, they still refused his mercy and fought him. A brutal battle ensured in which he lost a lot of good brothers and sisters but they were eventually victorious.
However just as he was about to end the sinful creature and free it from it pitiful misguided life, this mist appeared.
The mist was very thick and could interfere with his eyesight and soul sense. He could barely see a few centimetres ahead and his soul sense couldn't pass the three metres mark.
However he could tell something was lurking beyond the mist, something incredibly dangerous.
He stood vigilant then suddenly he heard a scream behind him followed by the sound of crunching bones.
They all turned towards the scream but saw nothing. One of them was gone, snatched by whatever lurked in the mist.
" Be careful, stand together, whatever devil hiding in this cursed mist cannot triumph over us for the lord stands with us."
He shouted by his voice was swallowed by the mist not reaching the ears of his subordinates.
Before they could react, another scream followed. Even Adebayo started feeling scared.
Humans always feared what they didn't understand and he didn't understand what was happening here.
" Lord of Dawn who brings light, guard my path and banish my foes." He issued a prayer and felt power flow into him.
A crystal glass orb floating around him glowed and fired dozens of light rays into the mist, this orb was his vessel.
The rays cut through the mist like spears but it was so thick he could no longer see them five metres away.
He shot more attacks but each and every one of them sunk into the mist and disappeared.
He realised he was just wasting his time and essence energy so he stopped. But he did create a barrier around himself.
The screams continued, every few seconds a new person was taken and devoured. He tried to rush to the screams but never arrived in time.
As time went on and more and more of his people disappeared, he started getting scared, feared gripped his heart and he ran.
In only a few steps he collided with somebody, he looked down and saw a woman dressed in a long black gown with a sun on the chest area.
" Lord Adebayo, please save us." The woman begged with tears streaming down her eyes.
Just as Adebayo was about to respond her head disappeared, cut clean off. It was too fast and silent even for him.
A rank 4 priest couldn't see what happened. Her blood spurted to his face. The fear inside him grew more intense.
The strangeness of everything made his knees weak with dread. He continued running but the screams never stopped.
Every now and then he could hear the desperate screams of his followers and the sound of chewing and he couldn't do anything to help.
He had a feeling whatever was lurking there, hunting them was playing with them, he knew that but knowing didn't help.
He couldn't do anything. Realising running was slow he tried to fly. As a rank 4, he can fly temporarily using his will but it wasn't efficient and drained too much mental energy.
It was just not worth the trouble most times but he was desperate. He ignored the screams of his subordinates.
What mattered right now was saving his own life however he found he couldn't fly at all, no matter how much he tried. He ran as fast as he could but no matter how long and far he ran, he still couldn't leave the mist. Suddenly a figure appeared Infront of him.
A huge brown spider like creature with tentacles and sludge over it entire body. The spider creature looked terrifying like a horror born in the deepest abyss.
It ran at him like a speeding train. " AHHHHH." He screamed and without hesitation shot a light javelin at it.
The javelin pierced the creatures head and killed it immediately. " Haha hahaha hahahahaha HAHAHAHAHA." he couldn't stop himself from laughing.
" Take that you vile beast." He drew closer to the creature but when he stood above it, what he saw was not it corpse but that of a woman.
Dark skin with long braids, this was Hannah, his daughter. Priests aren't allowed to marry or bear offsprings so Hannah was a secret.
A child he had with one of the nuns when he was younger. However this made no sense, she should not be here but back home in the Eternal Dawn Empire.
" You shouldn't be here, yes yes, I see this is an illusion." His mind was breaking. " YOU THINK YOU CAN TRICK ME WITH SUCH PETTY TRICKS?
COME OUT, WHOEVER YOU ARE. Great Lord of Dawn who shines the brightest light in the darkest night, bless my mind and cleanse the shadows."
He prayed but nothing happened. " Huh?" He got confused, everytime he prayed, he could feel a trickle of power through him.
A sign that his lord was watching yet now he felt nothing. He looked around and noticed something chilling, this entire time he had been running in a ten metres wide circle, he knelt down next to his daughter's corpse in defeat.
No matter how he looked at it, it was her and not simply an illusion, she was solid and real. He touched her and felt her cold skin on his and tears started streaming down his eyes.
Then he felt his power leave his body, his rank dropped from 4 all the way to 0 in a few seconds, he was a mortal again. Then he looked up crying.
" My lord, have you forsaken me?" There was no answer. " You demon hiding in the mist, what are you waiting for, just end it."
Suddenly he heard a low yet deep growl behind him. He turned around and saw two golden orbs shining through the mist.
" Who..who are you?" His voice quivered with fear. Suddenly a deep voice bellowed through the mist shaking his very soul.
" I am.. death incarnate and I have much greater plan for you."
