Ved1 entered a layer of dark clouds. The clouds were incredibly cold and below he could see heavy snow falling and covering the land like a white blanket for tens of kilometres.
However that was not what drew his attention. The clouds had a familiar aura, on the ground below he could a massive snow storm.
The snowstorm made it hard for him to see clearly and it even blocked his soul sense but he knew only a single being with such powerful ice abilities.
He flew down, the moment he entered the snowstorm he felt a wave of sadness, despair and fear assault him trying to drown him.
In only a few moments he was already covered in a layer of ice. With a shake of his body the ice shattered.
He landed on the ground a few kilometres from the centre of the storm. He sniffed the air.
Although his soul sense was blocked and the aura was too faint to use it to identify her, he could never mistake her scent.
He couldn't explain it but he could smell her soul which is something he couldn't do with others and it scent brought him peace.
However this time it felt different, tainted somehow. Although he was certain it was her, the smell wasn't as good as he remembered.
He felt sad, " What happened to you?" He whispered. However he noticed the moment he felt sad, the cold seemed to have found a gap and rushed to freeze him inside out.
He easily dispelled the ice then started walking slowly heading straight for the eye of the storm.
After walking for a while he started seeing frozen statues of weird looking centaur like creatures.
He paid them no mind but more and more corpses started appearing, he started getting worried.
Even though he trusted her strength, he didn't know anything about these creatures and their abilities.
He continued moving forward, moving a bit faster now. Each of his steps barely leaving footprints on the snow even though he was so huge and heavy.
The closer he got to the eye of the storm, the stronger the storm was. He started freezing faster.
The cold was getting to him, even his breath froze into ice particles the moment it left his body.
The cold was getting harder to deal with but he smiled. ' As expected of her, she's stronger than I ever expected.' he thought with pride.
Even though this was only an avatar, it was still his avatar and was probably stronger than a lot of projection realm beings.
For it to have to struggle so much against something that he believes she created passively was beyond impressive.
If she wanted to kill this avatar, he doubted it would take much effort. Ved continued trying to increase his pace.
However the further in he went the more he realized the problem with this storm. It contained emotions.
Negative emotions like despair, sorrow and fear. The closer he got to the centre, the more intense the emotions got.
They seeped into his mind and tried to consume him. He had a feeling if he allowed them, he would turn into an ice statue.
However knowing that didn't mean he can easily stop them. Ever since abandoning his humanity, Ved realised he was less empathetic towards others.
It's the reason he didn't feel any guilt consuming spiritual lifeforms anymore. Infact the death of his people barely made him feel anything other than anger.
While he still cared for them, he wasn't saddened by their deaths, his anger was simply because they were his, killing them is taking what belongs to him, he couldn't allow that.
Of course he still had people he cared about deeply and she stood at the pinnacle of that. He couldn't ignore her emotions even if he tried.
Knowing she was in such deep pain hurt him as well. He could hear and feel all her emotions.
The pain and fear, the overwhelming loneliness deep in her heart. He continued walking forward.
His pace grew lower with each step. The ice around his body became thicker. He was drowning in her emotions.
As he drew closer he suddenly heard a voice shouting. " Stop right there foolish human, if you continue I will have your head,I'm a noble dark elf, you should be groveling before me."
This caught him off guard, he tried to move faster and before long he saw the man who was speaking.
From afar he saw a dark elf wearing armour made of molten lava. However unlike one would expect, the lava armour did nothing to keep the cold away.
The snow wasn't purely physical after all, it effects depended on emotions. No matter how hot the temperature around you is, you will still freeze.
Infact Aira being able to keep the cold away with her barriers is something even Naledi couldn't explain, it shouldn't have been possible.
The man kept shouting and trying to back away but the ice made his movements slow and sluggish.
Ved finally saw her, she kept moving forward with a blank stare. Her once gently beautiful eyes had turned cold.
Yet her emotionless eyes somehow had tears streaming down them like rivers, the tears turned into snow and made the snowstorm stronger.
Ved felt a pang of pain seeing her, he wanted to take her pain away. He could see some clarity in her eyes but it appeared she couldn't control her body.
She continued moving in slow stead steps freezing everything around her. Ved continued walking towards her.
The elf backed up until he was only a few metres away from Ved. The man didn't stop shouting and threatening her which angered Ved even more.
Without a second thought he opened his mouth and devoured the fool. The elf did not even have a chance to react.
He was too focused on Naledi to even notice Ved. Ved spit out his clothes and weapons. He tasted terrible, he ignored the system notification. ' What a shitty meal.'
They drew closer and closer to each other. The ice started freezing his insides, he felt himself losing consciousness.
Then a small portal opened above him. Golden light poured out and bathed his body.
It seemed his will interpreted being frozen as physical damage. While the light was not as potent as it would've been if he could summon his image, it was still strong.
His mind cleared and the ice around him cracked. He reached her, she didn't stop as if she couldn't recognise him.
From this distance he was able to tell the source of her fears. The world whispered her moniker.
Hearing it, Ved understood and he looked at her with pity. A single tear fell down his eyes and landed on her heard.
In the entire universe, the only tear more rare than a mermaids tear was a dragon or a phoenix tear.
When the tear touched her, her eyes regained clarity. " A..lex?" She whispered. " I'm here." He replied gently.
