Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven

Chapter 274: Dark Forest

( Warning, the herald of nightmares has descended.) he looked at Naledi. " We need to go."

She could tell something was wrong by his expression and they both went to his minor world.

" Report." Avery appeared next to them. " My lord, my lady." She bowed in their direction.

Everybody knew they together now so the beasts gave her the respect and treatment of a queen even though she was a human.

To them it didn't matter, if she's with him, she's one of them. " There's nothing to report my lord, everything seems fine."

He frowned, " Strange, continue watching, if you see anything strange, report to me immediately."

The two of them flew out and went to the nearest observation station, like Avery they too had nothing to report.

" What's wrong Ved, why are you so anxious?" He looked at Naledi with worried eyes.

" Another invasion from the Nameless ones has begun." She looked like she had just came to a realisation.

" So that what it was." He tilted his head. " You know something?" She shrugged. " I did feel like something was around us, everywhere."

He nodded then a realisation hit him. " Wait, if nobody knows anything then who called us?"

They looked at each other a realised something was wrong. They took to the skies and went to the Ice Lotus City.

One of the calls came from there, however when they got there it was the same thing, nobody knew anything about a call.

He contacted Avery to ask and she too didn't know anything about any call. So they were both lost on what to do.

They told everybody to remain in high alert, just like that, a week passed. In that week the number of people saying they have been having nightmares increased.

Of course that was dismissed as merely nightmares but he knew otherwise. People started having nightmares every night.

He informed them that it was the doing of the herald of nightmares and they believed him, he was after all the king of beasts and one of the strongest people on Earth.

Nobody knew what the herald could do but if all they could do was give people nightmares then they were nothing to worry about.

He thought differently, he remembered his encounter with a mere dream projection of the Nameless of Nightmares.

While he still couldn't remember their form he knew seeing it almost killed him. He highly doubted giving people nightmares was all their herald could do.

To be safe he made candles using his wax, the candle rope was made from his web and he infused the candles with dream mist.

It was more of an incense candle. Then he gave them out, each household was required to have at least one candle.

A month later, he and Naledi were sitting around a circle of burning dream candles. They breathed in the dream mist.

She allowed him to lead her and they went to the dream realm, they made the effort to do this every night just to be safe.

At first, navigating the dream realm was hard for her but after doing it for almost a month, she had become really skilled.

Of course she still needed his help to enter the dream realm or the dreams of others. During this time they had confirmed their suspicions.

The nightmares were artificial, the herald of nightmares was creating them by accessing the memories of these people.

Ved had to admit whoever made these nightmares was much better than he was at conjuring dreams.

However no matter how much they searched they couldn't find the herald. Then as they were swimming through the dream realm.

One of the stars turned pitch black, this had never happened before. Usually the dream island would be the one changing from gold to black depending on whether it's a nice dream or nightmare.

But the dream star itself, this was different. They went to check it out immediately. The moment they entered the dream they found themselves in a dark forest.

However they were separated, worst still, Ved found that he had lost all of his power, in here he was a mortal human.

" This isn't good." The forest was filled with black twisted trees and mist. He took a deep breath and started walking in a random direction.

He didn't shout for Naledi since he had no idea what was lurking in this dark forest. He walked slowly and cautiously.

He walked for a long time, so long he couldn't even remember how long, yet he saw no end to the forest but he could feel eyes on him sometimes yet saw nothing.

Then he heard the sound of breathing and running. He closed his eyes and listened. " Two people, both women."

He could tell the footsteps were light, it either they belonged to women or children but his money were on very light women and he knew a light woman.

He ran towards them, he didn't know if it was truly her and he didn't care. He had been walking through this forest for probably thousands of years alone.

He wanted to see anybody or anything at this point or he might go crazy. He stopped when he heard the footsteps coming his way.

He waited, then through the mist came a petite figure flying at him. He had no time to react before a knee landed on his chest.

He fell on his back with the knee still pressed on his chest. " Ahhhh." A woman shouted and tried to stab a stone knife through his throat.

" Stop stop stop, it's me." He grabbed her hand. She did not stop and struggled even harder. " NALEDI STOP."

He shouted. " Prove it." She growled. " What?" He was really confused. " Prove that you're my Ved."

He raised his eyebrows, " How the hell do I do that?" " I don't know, tell me something only you would know."

He thought for a while, " Make it quick." She threatened. " Okay okay, do you remember that time you drove 8 kilometres to confront Cat for eating your chocolate cake?"

She nodded, " Yeah, I loved that cake and the shop selling them had just closed, I'm still mad at her for that."

" Yeah, well this might help with that anger towards her ,I'm the one who ate it." He saw her veins throbbing. " You're dead."
