Liliana wasn't alone who sensed the abnormalities. Samuel was the same. His shock almost made him jump from his throne, but he barely managed to control himself.
'What is this, Aegon?' Samuel thought, gripping the armrest tightly. He glanced at Arnold, who had his head lowered and sent a mental message. 'You better explain properly what is happening.'
'I would if I had any clues,' Arnold retorted in return. 'I never knew he has something like this. More than that, shouldn't you be focusing on the dead God?'
'He stirred in his eternal slumber,' Samuel replied, his voice growing stern. 'Why do you think I'm so worried here?'
Arnold stayed silent on that. Even he could understand Samuel's worry, as he himself was worried.
He glanced at his daughter, who cheered for Aegon like a child. He knew she also noticed the abnormalities, but her single mind was focused entirely on Aegon.
"Xiu, did you know about this?" Arnold asked.
"Huh? Obviously not." Xiu shrugged, not even looking at him. "My Baby is always full of surprises."
"Chen Xiu!!"
Xiu finally turned around and said, "Dad, trust him. He knows what he's doing. You know he thinks most among us, so why are you so worried?"
"You noticed the abnormalities," Arnold sighed. "How can I not be worried?"
"Meh! It's fine!" Xiu still looked nonchalant, as she said. "It's just resonance between paths, nothing much. He already told me the god is really dead."
"Huh?" Arnold was confused.
Xiu nodded and explained, "I don't know how he knows but he messaged me earlier saying that the God was really dead. And I trust him on this."
"Then it makes even less sense," Arnold said, turning towards the screen. "His aura cut off the concept of Death, so how did this giant God die?"
"Elder, don't forget the peculiarity of Dusk City," Nora said from the sides. "I can't explain you much because it's confidential information, but the Dusk City likely played a role in his death. Young Master knows what he's doing, so there's nothing to worry about."
The more he listened, the more confused he became. But all Arnold cared at the moment was Aegon's safety, so he relayed the information to Samuel who was more knowledgeable about these matters.
It was his family which ruled over this Empire for thousands of years, after all.
Hearing everything, Samuel fell in deep thoughts as he tapped rapidly on the armrest before sighing. He then said, through their connection.
'Leave it be then. Aside from that minor resonance that stirred him, there's nothing else, so perhaps he really is dead. But death for Gods isn't the same as it's for humans, so I'll need to fix this first.'
'Call me if you need help,' Arnold said, glancing at his hands. 'I still have strength left in my old arms.'
'Enjoy your Grandson's performance. No need to overthink stuff.'
Arnold focused back on the screen where Aegon absolutely demolished the others. For a moment, he saw the young Arthur in him. Then, he scoffed and removed that image from his mind.
"He's so cool!" Xiu cheered loudly. "That's my baby! Kill them!"
"She's a unique mother, don't you think?" Aurelia asked, shaking her head in amusement.
"Oh, she definitely is but Young Master needed someone like her. Someone normal won't suit that status," Nora chuckled softly. "Mistress used to say that only someone like her can tame a Valerian's fierceness."
As they talked about Aegon, they didn't notice the arrival of three people. Nobody did except for Arnold, as the match got too interesting to notice their surroundings.
Arnold's expression hardened, as he turned to look at the face he hadn't seen for the last sixteen years. The face he was once proud of. His own blood.
Amon, Liliana and Arthur stood before his seat, silent as the father and son simply stared at each other. No words spoken, yet a conversation seemed to have taken place between them.
Liliana glanced at her ex-husband before sighing, "Father, we... I have some questions I hope you can answer. We're just worried."
Arnold's expression softened slightly, as he ignored Arthur who couldn't even open his mouth before him, and then he spoke, "There's nothing to worry."
"You old beast, just tell me the truth because it concerns my Academy," Amon growled as he stepped forward. "Tell me, what is that thing?"
Right at those words, the cheering beside them stopped as Xiu's head snapped towards them. Her honey brown eyes glared back at Amon as she said, "Try to call my child a thing again, Goblin, and I'll shove that monocle..."
"You can stop there, Xiu," Liliana said calmly.
Surprisingly Xiu listened to her and turned silent. She just harrumphed and focused back on the screen again, ignoring everything else.
"But I will ask Senior to not call him that. I certainly don't like that," Liliana said, her crimson red eyes stuck on Amon.
"Fine! My bad!" Amon knew he had stepped over something bad, so he raised his hand and said. "I just want to know what happened."
"If His Majesty is calm then why are you so worried?" Arnold replied, his voice low and hiding something. "Go back and rest easy. Everything is under control."
"Can I talk to him after the Supremacy Games?" Liliana asked, turning towards Xiu since she had already gotten Arnold's permission. "I won't try to insert myself in his life."
"I'm not worried that you'll take my position, Sister Lily," Xiu shifted her attention and said with full confidence. "No one can do that. Not even you."
"I figured." Liliana's expression remained the same. "It's impossible to shake your position from anywhere."
Xiu stared at her for a second before letting out a big smile, "I'm not stopping you from meeting him. I don't think I have that right. What I wanted was to give him some time to adjust to this."
Her smile turned gentle, as she added, "Even though he seems and acts mature, he's still a kid emotionally and very sensitive. Did you see his emotions in his eyes?"
"Clear as Tamana Sea!" Liliana muttered out.
"Exactly!" Xiu nodded at her. "If he wins the Supremacy Games, he'll enter the Imperial Treasury to find something. You can meet him then."
"You want me to help him?" Liliana asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Hehe, as always you see right through me," Xiu let out a giggle, scratching her forehead. "He's making something, but lacks something important. So it'll be good if you can help him. Only you can do actually."
"I did hear he likes to invent stuff. Is that really true?" Liliana asked, smiling.
"He made a lot of stuff. I'll show you everything later on, but he's quite different than you. He only focuses on making things that make our life more convenient and comforting."
As always, when it came to praise her baby, Xiu was up to the task. Her face full of pride couldn't stop talking about Aegon.
"I see. I'm glad." Liliana's hand went to her chest, as her smile turned gentle. "I'll gladly help him."
Just as Xiu was going to say something, she noticed that the battle has ended and the princess was panicking in her last moments.
"Tsk! Tsk! Arrogance really brings you down so bad," Nora clicked her tongue in disdain.
"She never really faced challenges, after all," Amon said, changing his monocle as his smile returned.
"That applies to Little Sun too, but he turned out fine." Xiu shrugged.
"Oh, who said he isn't arrogant?" Amon scoffed. "He can just overlook it for his goals. That's it."
Xiu opened her mouth to say something, but words remained stuck in her mouth as she heard Gabriel call Aegon a bastard. Her expression went through a drastic change, as purple lightning threatened to leak out of her eyes.
All eyes turned towards the screen.
Bastard.
It might be just an insult to many, but it was different for Aegon. From his birth, he had been called bastard by many behind their back.
All because someone spread the rumours that he was a bastard born out of wedlock, and became the reason for Arthur's and Liliana's divorce.
That single word had been assigned to Aegon, as if he was a cursed being.
Nobody dared to speak it out loud in fear, but things changed when nobody looked or listened to them.
If it was any other insults, everyone would have ignored it considering it was just kids' fight. But this changed everything.
Even Arnold who didn't want to bring trouble here turned towards Samuel. Even in this situation, he wanted to see what his friend had to say.
It was his granddaughter who did this after all.
Though, only Nora's expression matched Xiu, as she also turned towards Samuel for answers.
On the other hand, Samuel was massaging his face, thinking just one thing.
'What did I do to deserve such stupid family?'
