Chapter 172: Things Pile Up

Knock! Knock! Knock! Repeatedly. Loudly.

"Who the…" said Kurt from inside his house.

The door slammed open "Don't start with me," said Sara. "So a fucking angel…"

"Archangel, she was very particular about that."

"Who the fuck cares? The entire Dutchery is in an uproar. What did you do?"

"I didn't do anything. It was Layla."

"Ohh it's always someone else."

"She came down from the clouds…"

"The clouds?!?!!"

"Yes!!"

After a long yelling match, Sara had gotten caught up on Rosie's appearance.

"This is bad," said Sara.

"Why did we ever do this?"

"I don't even remember. Money? A life?" said Sara, "I was really happy there for a moment though. Being in charge. Having my own thing. I guess I wanna keep it now."

"Like everyone expects me to have all the answers, but what hell do I know about gods and pantheons?"

"About…now I'm just estimating… nothing."

"Yeah that's about what I know about it, nothing."

"You really think she's that strong."

"Everytime I even thought about touching my sword she turned at me."

"Damn."

"And she was just so casual about it."

"So what do I need to do?" said Sara.

"You tell me what I need to do first!" said Kurt.

They really couldn't do anything but wait.

But of course nothing wanted to wait for anything.

He got a report from Joe that what appeared to be an envoy was coming from the eleven kingdom, their pace was slow. Talia informed him that the shadow clan was making moves and it appeared fighting was about to start breaking out on her continent.

Things were starting to start moving everywhere it seemed. Not to mention all the construction still going on. Their settlement was really starting to look like a proper town. Though its architecture was completely mismatched, gnomes, elves and goblins as well as some human parts everywhere.

The only good news was they were about to cross back to Hamlet which meant a change of the people there. This would most likely be a more friendly crew of watchers. Not to mention the next brood coming soon.

There was too much going on and about to be going on. For skirt to be focused on anyone of them, especially with his fiancé.

"What do you think they want?" Kurt asked Joe.

"Not sure it's obviously not like last time they are flying their flags."

Hank came in with another report.

"They say they are just ambassadors, hoping to establish a relationship and a communication line."

"That seems convenient."

"Just not completely out of line."

"Horrible timing."

"Why?"

"That angel is supposed to come back tomorrow when they arrive."

"Or purposefully," Tom who had come in after Hank.

"That possibly this could all be connected," said Joe.

"They might have just noticed her arrival, it's not like she was hiding herself," said Tom, "anyone would be interested in an Angel visit."

"That seems the most likely," said Kurt. "We shouldn't hide it."

The ambassadors were stopped at the Durchery, at least maybe the angel wouldn't interrupt them there. Getting through the forest's maze without Mary would be difficult hopefully.

"Really going through international relations on my lap too," said Sara. "I don't think so you're taking my chair."

"What?"

"You're the lord it would be proper," looking at some of her subordinates who all nodded.

So Kurt the main chair, this was actually the first time he would be the person there for something like this. He had always really been beside Layla. His councils were bit more informal with their meals and daily update meetings.

"Don't be afraid to speak," said Kurt, "I don't know what I'm doing here."

"Geeeting Lord, I am Carson, delegate of the Sylvain," said Carson.

"This is Lord Kurt of the Wellspring," said Sara.

The elf's eye wandered upwards at Mary flying above the scene circling with a crooked smile. Then back down to Kurt. She had been the one to open the way.

Carson bowed, "The Elven Kingdom of Sylvain would like to express a welcoming hand and a thanking of gratitude."

"Thanking?"

"Yes, the river being restarted has been a great boon to the elves of Sylvain. Our lord thought it was about time to thank the ones responsible."

"Does this mean you bring grifts?" said Kurt.

"It does, though I would say they are only a beginning. We weren't sure the best way, or what was here."

Carson waved one of the other elves with him, who brought out a case, "We have a few powerful charms and the deed to one of our ships, we just would need the permission to bring up the river for you for delivery, we didn't want it to seem like an attack. And ensure it's deep enough all the way there for the vessel."

"What about here at the Duchery?" said Sara.

"We can deliver it here if that is what you wish."

"We also have other food as well. We were hoping to set up a trading situation."

Kurt rubbed his chin, "There are some elves here already that have been banished by your kingdom."

"If that is true," said Carson, "they would not be allowed to step foot in our lands, anyone else though. It could be negotiated depending on the elf as well, if it was a clan banishment an exception for a lower member would be easily made."

"That's good to hear," said Kurt. "But it all seems too good to be true."

"I understand my lord, I ensure we are here to start a dialogue, if nothing more."

"We can make an arrangement, Duchess Sara," said Kurt turning towards her. "You should have some suitable people here."

"For a proper negotiation, most likely I would like to ask Betsy as well."

Just then the door to the chamber was opened, and in walked Rosie. Her white feather wing came out stretched but then closed in around her. Nothing can be simple just a little meeting has to get interrupted.

Mary had a a gasped look on her face.
