The border crossing was good to all, one of Midas members died as a spy of the shadow clan. And it don't go well after that
They couldn't pass in a single day, there was a guard change set.
It basically mean it took a day to do. Unless someone is killed. And someone was. But before it dealt with the king.
Hamlet seemed more friendly, Kurt had met the prince.
The draw of Austin was the education, the Austin School was known well around both kingdoms and the other continent. But as adults not in school they couldn't enjoy it.
Kurt and Sara were talking a walk through the border town, these places all seemed to start blurring together after enough times.
"What's wrong?" said Sara.
"The next stop," said Kurt.
"Not this one? I don't like it stopping us. You know we can just skip the whole town."
"We do things legally"
Sara came close and whispered, "because everything you do is."
"Not here in this town."
"So the next stop, what?"
"Slower," said Kurt, "I don't want to get there "
"Why?"
"Talia."
"Marriage jitters?"
"Well no, yes, why do that?"
"Because…"
"You do realize where it's near right?"
They had made a change of guards that next day. And started to go toward the way to Hamlet Capitol and every major town in between.
Rosie had made her stay at Jessica's so she wasn't exactly in front of their faces all that much.
The leaving Midas troops were not leaving with the best impressions. Their first trip had a lot of problems, a man died, and the gate had to be moved awkwardly. These were complications in the relationship.
At least there were no bad feelings from the hamlet side of the continent. But it would be very unlikely that they wouldn't be at least minimally informed of everything that had happened.
They were basically stuck at the border while they had their meetings.
However, a bit of news about their settlement had been getting around and finding volunteers for workers was starting to become a lot easier. Betsy had her hands full.
After a discussion it was decided that some of the previous things like the secrecy oath wouldn't be necessary anymore. And those that had done would go through a process to remove it. As both sides agreed. It was a good idea but it wouldn't be practical anymore.
Kurt had found some more books on potions and certain methods he wanted to try out for his potions.
"We got to start thinking bigger," said Sara.
"Bigger? We've gotten a lot bigger than I ever thought possible already."
"But what is our nation known for? Or will be known for?"
"It's sounding like you have an idea," said Kurt.
"Not exactly, but we really have barely touched the land we have. We should be thinking about industry."
"Talk to Betsy. You've got the Duchtery and the surrounding land. I'm certainly not stopping you."
"It would be a big investment. And I want to make sure it's worth it."
"We have other benefits as well."
"What do you mean?"
"The gnome's materials, the ability to remake things. Like I have no idea how a loom works, but I'm sure if you got one someone there could remake another one."
"That's…not a bad idea. And with the rams we do have a lot of wool potentially. We'd need to raise more."
"And even if you have to buy one at first, you won't have to again."
"I mean a knowledgeable enough worker I might not even have to buy the first one. Or at least not a big one."
"Even better."
"We should probably do more farming though, we would need to do that just for the rams eventually."
"I know…"
Sara stopped and put it all together, "you're not thinking?"
"I mean do we have a choice?"
"We? Don't you…"
"Like they wouldn't."
"So the next stop," said Sara. "It can wait."
The problem Kurt was facing is not that he didn't know any farmers, it's that he did. He knew a lot of farmers actually. But most importantly were his parents. And since Sara and Kurt were neighbors, that meant their parents were still neighbors.
Kurt hadn't said anything to them about anything involving what happened since the day he met Layla.
They had no idea that he was in control of a whole kingdom, and was on a name basis with some of the most powerful people in the continent.
Plus there was the marriage he hadn't exactly told them about either. Kurt was not looking forward to it. How do you even explain it?
They continued their walk through the Austin seeing what there was to see. But they both had too much on their minds.
"Should we do it together?" offered Sara.
"I mean, do you want to?"
"I mean I'd rather not do it twice. Maybe start with your parents. You tell them about Talia, and once I get my parents we tell them everything. We are going to sort of need someone."
The next day they had set off. It would take another day after that. Kurt had gotten Talia.
So when the day finally came, Kurt thought he was ready for it. Layla, Talia, Sara and himself, plus Jerry as a driver.
What he didn't like was when he was coming to talk to Jerry about where they were actually going he noticed Rosie was riding one of the horses.
"So I hear this one is coming with us this time," said Jerry pointing at Rosie.
"Why is she riding a horse?"
"She says since she won't be able to use her wings, that it would be the only time she might get the chance. She intends on riding it on the way. I wanted to make sure she didn't look like a fool doing it."
"Are you serious?"
"I mean when you can fly a horse is sort of pointless."
And so one more person would be joining them.
