Chapter 195: Wing of Fury

The goblins awoke early and almost together. It seemed they were all much more disciplined during a war party. Kurt was not as much and had to be woken by one of them when everyone was basically already ready to go. They had given him a warm meal. And Kurt wasn't really there to argue, it was going to be a long day.

They started to approach the cliff and some of the wyvern had noticed them but hadn't attacked yet. They had given them little reason to. They were a little too big for their diet.

They didn't have much tree cover. However, there were some small patches. This would make it hard to hide, but also easier to reach a felled wyvern—a dangerous pairing.

"We have to find one we can capture and it will make a call for help," said Hank. "That's when things get interesting." Hank took out his kopesh smiling. "Chain lighting is going to come in handy today, it shouldn't kill them, most of them."

"I can just go grab one whenever," said Kurt. Kurt was thinking it's just a bunch of wyverns, almost the smallest thing he'd ever fought.

The goblins look at Kurt, then up at several wyverns casually flying on and off the cliffside.

"Yeah, just jump up and grab it," said Kurt. "I would think that would make it cry. Then one of you will deal with it. When I land, I set up for the thing with Joe."

"Well, that would make things a lot easier."

Kurt looked up, "I might have to swipe at it, he might dodge it, but I can get up there with them."

After a few moments of discussing the plan and moving a few people around. The goblins thought that would be one of the hardest parts, grabbing enough attention to get a few to come down.

Kurt got down and gave a large jump in the air, he was used to this type of movement by now. His water boots would also allow him to land safely from the heights. Coming up like a lightning bolt Kurt had managed to grab the neck easily.

While punching the wyvern's head to make it fall Kurt looked down one of the caves of the cliff up close. And down it was lined and crowded. There were so many of them, and the cave seemed to go on forever. The wyvern he had punched started to fall but he saw a thousand eyes light up down the path as it screamed.

Falling and throwing the wyvern to the ground around where he was supposed to. A shaman and warrior goblin ran up and the shaman performed a taming ritual. A simple one involving painting its forehead with a marking and speaking a spell.

"That's one!" The shaman screamed.

Their daylight was covered in vast shadow. Above them, a swarm of wyvern overcast them and came out like a dark line across the sky screaming.

"That's a lot more than we expected," said Tom, taking out an arrow.

"Like a lot more," said Hank

"What's the problem? Isn't this what we wanted?" said Kurt, "It's just a bunch of wyvern. Joe." Kurt produced two large water balls and shot one at the head of the streak of wyverns that had started to turn back at them and one straight above at the entrance. Both were infused with the stinging waters.

The water ball going towards the head was faster and more direct. Joe spoke a spell speaking louder at the end. And it burst in front of the mass. Several wyverns had fallen to the ground, and others had dropped lower in altitude.

The one above them burst after and the rain stung Kurt's skin. He took some paste he had and applied it to the worst parts, many other goblins had done the same. But several of the wyvern had dropped.

The goblins immediately leapt into action.

"Listen," said Kurt, "I'll fight them, get these, come back, figure out a way to get them out quickly."

The goblins scrambled to tame the fell wyvern before the swarm got to them.

Kurt smiled. "You don't mind if I kill some of them do you, I've got a bit of frustration pent up." Kurt drew his sword.

"I think we will find a way to manage my lord," said Joe.

Several of the wyvern were being ridden away from the battlefield, low and quickly, and the healing paste worked on them as well. It was time for Kurt to start having a little fun. All he could think was, it's just a bunch of wyverns.

Kurt ran towards the swarm, he split into a couple illusion. He made a barrage of crescent slashes, as it was his daily practice, then blinked to another one of his copies.

Betsy should be here, thought Kurt. She got out of her training…Kurt's mind was wandering but he was making his normal slashes. Weaving in and out of the oncoming swarms.

He watched as his goblin organized and started flying the famed wyverns away from the carnage he was making. They had a pattern of coming on foot and going on a wyvern back. More scouts and warriors would make the run back while shamans would stay behind to tame more.

Kurt landed close to one of the shamans.

"Hey, you have one of those fire coins?"

"Umm yes sir," said the unfamiliar goblin shaman.

"Give me one, no two. So you make it explode when it hits them, you have gotten most of the ones that have already fallen, we need to get a few more now. And can you sort of shout the last word of the spell, that helps me."

Kurt turned and gave off a massively long combo of slashes mixing and molding the blue and red power had used before. But he said I was doing it wrong, that Angel. He was actually still counting his reps.

He had made enough time for them to make their attack. Two more waterfalls, two more burst, and several wyvern falling prey, just the closest ones but that was enough now.

"Glory," said the Shaman, his eyes glowing in the destructions

"Yes," said Kurt patting his head, "Glory. So go grab one."

"Yes sir."

It really was starting to seem like his daily ritual. The wyvern wasn't in much danger. And the additional jumping into the air didn't seem to bother Kurt like he thought it would.

But I was doing it wrong, still, that thought in his head.

Kurt sheathed his sword. Something's wrong. He flew through the air, jumping, fighting. Punching. Using his powers. He was gracefully executing wyvern packs at a time.

Time started to lose meaning. There were so many but the rhythm of his training. The movement of the wyverns, the clarity in his movements.

It's still wrong.

The thousands of wyvern were bottlenecked by the cavernous opening. They started to come out in smaller packs after a while. There seemed to be an endless number of them. Perhaps they were coming back and resting somehow. Kurt wasn't sure

It is still circulating. Kurt looked down at his fist. Because my hand is still wrapped, my toes still curl.

Kurt was in a state of battle clarity. His thoughts free flowing but his punches and kicks were endless, and endlessly entwined with the illusionary copies he could jump to.

But he saw it finally, outpour. No sword no fist. Just a breath, an energy and it comes, explodes.. Kurt rose into the air spinning slowly to face the entrance. The wyverns had just avoided him. He lazily outstretched his hand with the power. And just…right there right when…it reached the end of his index finger it hit a spot. The one the Angel Marty was speaking of, it had to be.

And everything suddenly got quieter.
