Shadow Weaver: Sole Heir Of The Night

Chapter 102: Red God

"Good, now let's begin." Seeing Enzo's signature stabilize on the contract after a few awkward seconds, the Grand Regent finally smiled and activated a screen.

Suddenly, in the dim room, several sets of images were sent flying, each depicting a myriad of symbols, ancient, stemming from years of research and discoveries.

"These symbols, they belong to a time when the universe was just beginning. Around the 3rd or 4th epoch, think early evolution. At that time, demi gods were scarce, unlike today where every Tom can become one."

"This particular legend follows the ascension of a particular individual written as The Red God. We believe its journey and conquest can help us comprehend true divinity and how it can be achieved in this day and age," the Grand Regent explained.

Demi gods weren't scarce in human society; even though they were just the top 0.0001 percent, it was still a good number for a species.

However, the same couldn't be said for true gods.

They were so few that Earth didn't even have a single true god. This was the birthplace of human civilization, and still this was the situation.

With how much danger existed in the universe, such results were disheartening, and with the way humanity was expanding, it would soon be catastrophic.

"Ohh," Enzo nodded, seeing where they were going with this. The mysterious symbols on the Void Coffin matched very well with what was in front of him.

They wanted his help, or at the very least the help of the Void Coffin.

"Recently, we've acquired rights to explore a particularly intriguing planet with traces of this divine being and would like to explore our options…" Master Seth spoke calmly in a tempered tone, going into details on what would be required from those who participated.

With a sigh, Enzo understood what was happening here. These guys were hunting for Victoria's legacy in hopes of producing a true god from within their ranks.

It was straightforward, but Enzo couldn't help but feel a conflict of morals.

Was it appropriate for him to help them steal from Victoria? She had been the main victim and protagonist of his first voyage.

'Then again, that was in the 3rd epoch, and there are no traces of her anymore. She's probably dead.'

Enzo thought in his mind. Holding onto something that probably wasn't even real was a bit crazy, really. Even though he hoped she was alive, but this was a massive opportunity for him to truly grow.

"So what do you say?" The words finally came to a close as the room fell into silence.

What was expected from Enzo wasn't that much: knowledge and on-site help, while the rest would be the normal responsibilities of the Star Weavers on ground. His contract payment would even be much higher than his counterparts.

15,000 years.

That was massive.

"Sure, I'll do it," Enzo nodded, then walked out of the room with a nod from the Grand Regent.

As he did so, the room remained silent till he was gone.

"Now, more pressing matters. Who's going to volunteer to help us kill that old bastard at Weavetech?" the Grand Regent spoke in a calm yet cold tone, the room descending into mocking smiles.

Clearly, something much deeper was happening right at that moment.

Right outside the activity room, Enzo walked through the shadows of the hallways, moving steadily towards the dorm area.

His mind racing.

This mission might be his ticket not just to the money; he could also finally get answers to the questions that had been bugging him all this while.

Victoria's life after Galafray. She was said to be an immortal, so death couldn't have happened to her naturally. What had killed her? Or was she even dead? He hoped to learn all of this to at least put his mind at ease.

There was also the matter of the Void Coffin and his bloodline of the night. He still didn't quite know what these two things were. But Victoria obviously knew, so he hoped to gain more from her.

"I have to make sure I stay alive also," Enzo said to himself as he approached his room and locked the door behind him.

The next day.

"So, unfortunately for you guys, going back to Earth at this time is not possible," Master Seth said in an open field outside the base.

"The institute still needs monsters to train the first years with. Those who hope to join are depending on us to bring them the equipment needed for their training."

That was the main reason they were capturing monsters on Defi and shipping them: to help the other first years with monster hunting training.

After all, not everyone was as skilled as them standing here today.

"As a form of compensation, I will personally be in charge of training each and every one of you." He smiled and peered across, sending shivers down the spines of those who dared to look at him in the eye.

Master Seth was a Holy Weaver, just one realm below a demi god. In the scheme of things, he was the best teacher anyone who was anyone could ask for.

However, Master Seth was also a pain in the rear; his methods were typically unbearable and, to an extent, irresponsible.

Unfortunately, it didn't seem from the way he spoke like he was giving them a chance to say no.

They were all stuck here.

"Is that clear?!!" Master Seth barked, seeing the lack of a response from the students.

"Yes, sir!!" They responded instinctively, scratching their heads in bitterness. Just the thought of spending the next few months here with this old man felt post-traumatic.

They just knew he would go overboard.

And seconds later, he proved them right.

"First order of business: each of you are to head out right now and bring me a beast or beasts equivalent to your strength. For a Star Weaver at the first stage, you may bring 3 Great Warrior-class beasts or one Terror. For stage two, 6 Great Warriors or two Terrors. Same for those exalted. Your time limit is a week.

Within that time, you can come ask me for advice a total of 3 times. Any additional information will cost you time credits…

By the way, failure means you'll be booted out, no special treatment for anyone "

Master Seth laid out his first training schedule methodically.
