(Hm…. Good…. Good…. Everything seems to be still working fine.) – thought Thauma as he unleashed his golem puppets to the outside world and was using them to watch outside world, while also using a map of the territory.
"…"
(Hm…. This is problematic…. I've thought that the golems would have big enough reach for me to see everything outside the forest…. But by the looks of things, I will still have to work the range a bit... Then again. I can just use one of the trees.) – thought Thauma as it then commanded the scout golems to climb on top of the trees, allowing the Thauma to gain more sight on the territory.
(This is nice.)
[Advance Golem Crafting – Level 1]>
> [Golem Control – Level 6]
(Thanks to the [Golem Control] skill, the range which I can affect my golems from afar had expanded, meaning that they don't need to be close to me for in order to be affected.)
(Not only that, the scout golem body is special tool.)
(This golem not only has a ability to link up with a helmet, allowing me to share a vision with it, but it also a part of another experiment I've had been making.)
(A long range remote control golem.)
(Honestly, it was just a theory.)
(When I was learning and improving my crafting, Ariva told me something, about items and what kind of effects I can grant them if I'm proficient enough in crafting.)
(She told me that I will need that kind of skill in order to develop my research.)
(For example: There are weapons or items out there that can apply specific characteristic or skill.)
(For example, a mage staff that is revolves around fire magic will boost the user fire magic, while magic pendant can enchant a range of mana detection type abilities.)
(So, with that in mind, I've tried making special adjust to the golems and the theory had been proven correct.)
(I can increase my control for specific golems, if I make a necessary adjustment.)
(I need this kind of adjustment to my other golems as well…. Hm…. Or maybe I could make something that could just expand my own research, without having to add special modification?)
(I will take notes for later, but for now, vision.)
(Based on the information where my golems had fought the enemy, I should look in this direction...!) – Thauma with the help of its golems managed to finally gain vision from above the sea of trees, finally allowing Thauma to somewhat see the grass plains that were covered in snow.
"!"
(I can see!)
(Well…. Not accurately enough though…. The scout golems are still too far…. Maybe I should also think about enchanting their vision?)
(Anyway, is there...?)
(Nothing?) – thought Thauma as it realized that it could not spot anything in the direction where the camp of the kingdom soldiers was once located.
(Did they completely abandoned the area? Did they completely backed away?)
"…"
(No.)
(I can't be too sure of that yet.)
(What about the outpost?) – thought Thauma as it commanded the golems to traverse the forest, before once again climbing on top of the trees in order to spot the location where the ruined outpost is located.
"…"
(The outpost was there according to the prisoners…. Right?)
(But is there anything? I mean, do see some things, but from what I've know, there was small tower and such…. But I don't see anything?)
(Was the outpost not rebuild?)
(From what I've gathered, this was essentially their base of operation when it came down to "managing" the dungeon and the forest.)
"…"
(Return.) – Thauma commanded its puppets to return back to the dungeon.
(It won't work.)
(I need to increase vision or range of the golems…. But still, I confirmed one thing.)
(Lack of movement.)
(Even if I can't see too far away, I still should had been able to notice a large group of soldier moving around.)
(That means that the enemy is nowhere near me OR they are near me, but they are outside of my field of vision.)
"…"
(Still, this is worrying.)
(This is not a false alarm. I've already confirmed it. I've checked with prisoners and I used all the data I've had on hand to confirm that this is not a false alarm, but truly a war.)
(So, what is going on? Why did the enemy backed off?)
(Injured, scared, strategic retreat or tired.)
(Those could be the reasons…. But it was already sometime, so I should at least see a scout or something like this entering the forest…. And yet nothing?)
"…"
(I don't like this one bit.)
(The enemy is definitely planning something…. But what?)
"…"
(This lack of information is killing me…. Well, it could kill me for real…. Should I completely focus on improving the golems visions?)
(But at the same time, what if the enemy really comes here?)
(…. Shit. I can't fully focus on improving the golem field of vision enemy could appear at any moment.)
Even after finally gaining a real ability to see the outside world, Thauma ended up straight up learning nothing.
The army that was near the forest was nowhere in sight, while the outpost was still left "dead".
Normally this kind of news would bring joy to Thauma, since peace and quiet would allow Thauma to continue its research in peace…. But the problem was that it knew.
The soldiers that came here were not some "false alarms" unlike many cases before.
No.
This time there was truly war going on and it had already started.
And yet? No enemies.
The war had already started but the enemies had left?
This worried Thauma as it realized that the kingdom must be planning something…. And planning something they were.
The news of the new quest posted by the Garmfon kingdom had reached the neighboring kingdoms adventurer guilds.
And some people had already shown interested in this quest, making them hunger for the rewards as they headed to the Garmfon kingdom.
…
The weeks went by and people both arrive and gathered in the Garmfon kingdom, at the Maw city which ended up becoming the temporarily base of the adventurer guild.
"Ugh. What is this dumb?" – asked a human adventurer.
"This city looks like it was…. Ravaged? Did these golems monsters did it?"
"Nah. I think it was one of the places that was hit by the war." – replied the female elf adventurer.
"Oh right…. Kind of forgotten about that." – replied human warrior.
"How the hell did you forgotten about a goddamned war? It happened just recently." – replied female elf with a confused expression.
"…. Ah, screw it."
"Anyway, a lot more bastards than I've thought had showed up."
"Well, this will be large scale operation." – replied male human mage that walked up to the group.
"So it was obvious that they will need a lot of people to take part in this quest."
"Not only that, but there is also that reward."
"Nobility."
"Right now Garmfon kingdom is one of most noticeable kingdoms in the continent AND they had grown in power recently, alongside the previous king getting overthrown."
"This place became somewhat chaotic to say the least, but still, obtaining nobility isn't something you can just pass by."
"…"
"Honestly I'm worried that they are just willing to hand it over…. This does sound bit like a scam." – said the human warrior.
"I think I will just grab money reward and get out…. I really have a bad feeling about this whole place." – said the human warrior, before moments later a bell started ringing, getting attention of all adventures that had gathered in Maw city.
"…"
"Thank you all for gathering here in such dire time." – said the beastman general as right next to him stood a beastman carrying a hand bell.
"Allow me to introduce myself."
"My name is Gustav Chariot and I'm the current general of the Garmfon army."
"Let us skip a lot of stuff and get right down to the business, shall we?"
"As you know, the one that requested the quest was non other than Garmfon kingdom itself."
"And as you know after reading the quest description, the quest involves golems."
"But let me get more detailed version right now."
"The golem dungeon, was…. Well, it was left un-watched because of the various circumstances and somehow in short amount of time the dungeon growth exploded in extremely abnormal rate, causing not only a horde of monsters to be born, but also causing the average strength level of the golem monster to sky rocket as well."
"Currently it is suspected that there is in total over 300 golems, but this number could had changed in recent times."
"Not only that, there will be definitely some monsters that are still present inside of the dungeon."
"There is also the fact that the interior of the dungeon may had changed, obviously meaning one thing, dungeon evolution."
"Therefore, the number of the enemies that you will be dealing with would be unknown."
"As posted in the quest, the current danger rank is consider as C+"
"But it may change depending on the circumstances, either decrees or increase."
"…"
"Last but not least."
"Some of you read that you cane earn the status of nobility for taming the dungeon…. And this is indeed correct."
"This is not some rumor."
"This is reality." – said the general, instantly causing many adventurers to whispers amongst each other, asking "why" or "are they desperate" kind of questions.
"…"
"I can tell that a lot of you are confused…. But let me tell you why the rewards are so generous."
"It related to the dungeon abnormal growth rate."
"We don't know what caused the dungeon growth to suddenly sky rocket like this…. Therefore, there is a possibility of the dungeon once again unleashing that kind of abnormal growth."
"And if it does, the dungeon danger rank could change, turning the whole new kind of danger."
"In order words."
"The dungeon needs to be conquered and tamed as soon as possible, before another disaster would be unleashed on this world."
"And the one who contributed the most in this joined quest will be offered a status of nobility for either individual or the whole party."
"This is the promise that the king Ash himself declared."
