Lord Of Puppets

Chapter 106 – Golem Forest Assault – Second Try.

"What the hell do you mean the camp was attacked?!" – asked confused and scared general.

"I don't know!" – replied the soldier.

"The golems suddenly marched towards our location and ambushed us in the middle of the day."

"As you instructed, we avoided the combat at all cost and ran away…. But our entire camp was looted by the golems."

"…"

"They are hunting us?" – said general as his was filled with fear.

(First their attack zone expanded and now they went far away from the forest to just attack us?!)

(Fuck! I mean, I did predicted this kind of possibility…. But the odds were too low and there nothing backing up this theory of mine.)

(But it really had happened?!)

(Shit…. This is not good…. This is not good at all!)

(We had already set up warnings and blockades on the roads that are connected to the golem forest…. But it now maybe not enough.)

(If the army of golems start wondering around the territory, they would cause unimaginable amount of damage AND they would damage our reputation.)

(Even worse, if those things were at one point cross a border even for a split second…. Shit.)

(If that were to happened, it would turn in massive scale disaster.)

"…"

"Fuck…."

"…"

"Rely my order."

"As soon as the sun rises, we are heading out… Got it!?"

[Sometime later: Dungeon]

"…"

(Weird.) – thought Thauma as it was inspecting stolen goods.

(Weapons, food and some tools…. This isn't some random trash or abandoned loot. The quality of everything that the golems had brought me is somewhat deceit.)

(….)

(I wasn't wrong…. It was some sort of base.)

(But why the golems weren't damage? I've looked through the golems, but I found no form of damage whatsoever on their bodies.)

(….) – Thauma began asking itself multiple questions over and over again at the same time, before then coming up with answer that highest chance of being correct.

(There was no fight…. But the golems raided enemy base and brought me back a proof…. Did the enemy abandoned their base and ran away?)

(Reasons being…. They got scared or they had nowhere near enough power to take on my golems?)

(…. And that confirms two things.)

(The enemy has not left, they are still here…. They are probably watching me.)

(And secondly, they don't want to fight me…. Maybe they can't because they lack power? Maybe the first attack was just a test to see how well they do against the golems?)

"…"

(Then that means they are preparing themselves to attack the dungeon…. But what exactly are they preparing that took them so long to make?)

<<I was worried.>>

<<I was finally able to confirm something.>>

<<Enemy is still here.>>

<<And they must have a reason why they are not attacking me.>>

<<Many days has passed since the last time we fought…. They have power, they can take down my golems, and yet they are waiting. Why?>>

<<This part alarmed me.>>

<<…>>

<<And it wouldn't take me much longer before I find out why, because in few days later, the enemy forces had finally showed themselves.>>

"…"

(It is just exactly the same like the last time.) – thought the general as he arrived at the camps remains, realizing that the place had been completely plundered.

"…"

"Okay! Listen up all of you!" – shouted the general as he turned around on his horse, now facing both the soldiers and adventurers that had gathered.

"I know a lot of you are complaining about me suddenly changing plans and having you get up as soon as sun rise, but there was unfortunate change if you haven't heard."

"The golems became far more active once again."

"This time they ventured from that forest, all the way over there, to this location."

"Normally golems didn't ventured too far away from the forest, but considering how they acted recently without even getting provoke as well…. It is to show that the threat of the golems are changing at the rapid rate."

"Therefore, we will need to deal with enemies as soon as possible, before any form of incident erupts."

"We will be setting a new camp much closer to the forest in order to give somewhat spot of rest and safety."

"However! Remember at the moment notice, the enemy may emerge as soon as we start moving away from this place."

"So be prepared for a large-scale battle…. Got it?" – said the general before moments later the army started moving forward towards the forest.

With the threat of the golems showing up at any moment, the army carefully approached the forest, being prepared for a large-scale battle to erupt at any moment.

But nothing was happening.

Even when the army arrived at their destination and started setting up their new camp, there was nothing.

And even after finishing up setting up the camp, the golems had not dared to show themselves.

"…"

"Okay. What the actual fuck?" – said the general as he gazed at the forest.

(Nothing? I've thought that the golems would definitely show themselves the moment... No.)

"Fuck."

"It is other way around."

"?"

"What do you mean sir?" – asked beastman knight.

"They are waiting for us to come." – said the general.

"These bastards want us to fight in their territory."

"…"

(But can they see us?)

"Have some people that can sneak near the forest and see if there are any golems near the edge."

"Understood." – replied the knight before then walking away.

*Sigh*

(Welp. There is no way this will become something simple…. Will it.)

"!"

The beastman suddenly looked upwards, towards the tips of the trees.

"…."

"Must had been the birds."

The camp was set and the preparations were finished…. And yet, the golems did not even attempt attacking the army…. Which only fueled the soldier's anxiety.

But the adventurers? They didn't really cared. If anything, they were annoyed that nothing showed up, even though they were told to be high alert for every passing second.

However, they have yet to face the terror…. And it wouldn't take them long to find out, since as soon as the preparations was finished, the general called a quick gathering.

"Okay you all, listen up!" – said the general.

"The enemy by the looks of things is waiting for us inside the forest!"

"Meaning that as soon as we were to enter it, we would definitely end up being attacked, possible even ambushed."

"In the past the golems did it before."

"We don't know how many golems are in the forest nor we know what they are planning."

"So be ready."

"Didn't he said that before?" – whispered adventurers.

"Yea, he said the exact same thing before, but nothing showed up…. Maybe he is bullshiting?" – whispered different adventurers, whom was noticed by the general as he glared at him, which instantly shut the man up.

"…I'm going to say this now." – said general.

"Some of my soldiers died when we last when in."

"So don't be surprised if some of us die." – said the general before moments later he took the adventurers and some of his soldiers, before then heading towards the forest.

The cautious army slowly approached the forest, before then finally entering it.

"…"

(It was getting hot lately, so a lot of snow had melted, meaning that they can no longer hide beneath it.) – thought the general as he looked around.

(There is a lot of trees, but they are not big enough to hide an entire army…. But we are not seeing anything.)

(But…. Why is so quiet?) – thought the beastman general who was using his detection ability, trying to sense any golems nearby, only to get no response whatsoever.

(Again. This weird "peace".)

(By any chance, are we getting played? Or maybe lured right into a trap?)

(Ei-)

"!"

"STOP!" – shouted the general, instantly ordering all forces to stop in place as he notices the enemy coming.

The army of golems finally showed themselves, revealing their overwhelming numbers to the soldiers.

"!"

"Okay. He wasn't kidding… There is a lot of them." – said the cocky adventurer as he and other adventurers armed themselves.

"HERE THEY COME!" – shouted the general as the army of golems was finally within sight, allowing the kingdom's force to get a good at the enemy.

(A large number of enemies from get go…. Just like the last time.) – thought the nervous general.

(The enemy is once again going all out from the start…. I guess they are not looking down on us.)

(….Still…. I can't shake off this weird feeling….)

(Ever since we entered the forest…. I feel like we been watched by something… But I couldn't see or spot anything with my-)

"!"

"RASIE THE SHIELDS!" – shouted the general, ordering the soldiers and adventurers to prepare their defenses as a hail of crossbow bolts suddenly went flying, which ended up either being bounced off or instead only piercing the enemy surface.

"PUSH FORWARD!" – shouted the general, ordering the frontliner to slowly start moving forward, trying to endure the relentless hail of attacks.

"…..Litle bit closer…. Litle bit closer…...!"

"NOW!" – shouted the general as the frontlines broke their formation, allowing the mages and archers to unleashed their own attacks at the enemy golems, which ended up being taken on by the enemy frontliners.

After unleashing their own bombardment, the kingdom army rushed and started attacking the golems head on.

The war has once again resumed.
