The beast knight golem began rushing towards the adventurers as its heavy metallic steps echoed throughout the room, alarming everybody.
"!"
"it is fast, but not as fast as I thought?!"– said Adam, realizing that the heavily armored cavalry unit was faster than knight golems, but it was nowhere near as fast as the evolved version of the hound golem.
However, the golem was still able to build up momentum and before long it clashed right into the adventurers with its weapons and entire body, knocking and injuring the people, even those who were ready for the contact.
The monster broke through the defensive line and instantly swung arounds its polearms, wounding the people around it with devasting blows until Adam came in and used the {Hammer Art: Heavy Strike}, landing a solid hit on the creature.
"!"
"Oh common! Again?" – however, the man realized the creature was able to tank the enchanted strike.
"This guy defense is higher than knights! Maybe somewhat high as the first boss!" – shouted Adam as he quickly tried making some distance, allowing Mawa to rush in alongside Markus, who then smashed the creature right in its humanoid toros with their weapons, visible damaging the creature, but nowhere near enough to make it stop moving.
The golem instantly counter attacked, swinging its polearms at the two men, with Mawa managing to quickly dodge the attack and Markus having to block the attack head on, which pushed the man back.
(It is like that first boss, but it is much smaller and faster.) – thought Mawa as he tried rushing at the creature, but it quickly turned around and swung arounds one of its polearms, forcing the man to use both of his axes to defend himself as blades clashed with each other.
However, in this very instance, Elizabeth saw opening and rushed at the creature from the front where the hound head was.
(That thing has two heads, so what happens if I take one of them down?!) – Elizabeth aimed with one of her short spears at the creature, aiming to destroy it.
But right in the very next moment, a crossbow bolt flew out of the hound's mouth as the noble lady watched.
The bolt ended up hitting her right in the shoulder, piercing her light armor and throwing her off the momentum.
And that gave the cavalry golem knight part to turn around and try to attack the woman with both polearms.
"!"
[Doryanthes Excelsa Spear Art: Perfect Dance]
The woman used both of her short spears, trying to diverted the flow of the enemy attack, somewhat parring the attack, but not completely as she ended up getting pushed away.
"?!"
(She survived that?!) – thought surprised and alarmed Thauma.
"!"
"Elizabeth!" – shouted worried Mawa.
"Don't worry about me! Worry about the dog thing! That fucking thing has a crossbow inside of it! And strong one at that!" – said Elizabeth as she just grabbed the bolt stuck in her shoulder and removed it.
(Thanks to my armor I didn't ended up with worst kind of injury, but it will definitely make things problematic.)
"Occupy it for a moment!" – shouted Elizabeth.
"Hey! Healers! Deal with this quickly!" – said Ellizabeth as she quick ran towards the medic who instantly started trying to deal with the wound.
"And you said I was careless!" – said cocky Markus as he blocked the golem's polearm attack, before then quickly closing up the distance between him and the golem.
[Sword Art: Pierce Stab]
The man quickly landed a stab right in the damaged spot, trying to pile up enough damage to rip open the golem stomach area… However, the creature thick armor wasn't letting go that easily, which annoyed the man.
"Less trash talking, more killing!" – shouted Mawa as he managed to get above the golem without it realizing it.
And right before the golem could even do something, the man swung down his axes, unleashing {Axe Art: Twin Heavy Smash}, dealing critical damage to creature neck, but again, not enough to cause a body part of the golem to fall off as the creature then tried to counter attack with its polearm, forcing the man to once gain counter attack with his axes, making both blades clash as the man was pushed away.
"HEY! GET BACK YOU FUCKERS!" – shouted Oscar, alarming duo of B-rank adventurers as they quickly ran away from the creature as a hail of arrows and magical projectiles came, bombarding the creature entire body.
"…"
"Damn… This guy is really thought?!" – said scared elven archer as the golem still stood in place, still ready to fight.
"Yea…. It is." – replied Oscar.
"However."
"Our attacks are working."
"KEEP CLOSE DISTANCE!" – shouted Adam.
"HE IS A STRAIGHT UP CAVALARY! IF WE LET HIM GAIN UP SPEED, HIS HITS WILL HARD LIKE HELL! KEEP THE PREASURE FROM ALL DIRECTION!" – shouted Adam as he leads the adventurers, joining up with the B-rank adventurers.
"…"
(Okay…. This isn't going one bit as I predicted.) – thought extremely stressed out Thauma as it observed its cavalry golem getting straight up bullied.
(…)
(Shit…. SHIT! SHIT! SHIT!)
(This isn't right! This isn't like my calculation one bit!) – thought Thauma as it then noticed Elizabeth finishing up her recovery, alarming the dungeon master further.
(The cavalry golem is doing damage and the enemy had been caught off guard the B-rank adventurer!)
(So what the hell is going on?!) – thought Thauma as it observed its cavalry golem being surrounded from all directions.
"LIKE BEFORE! TAKE DOWN THE LEGS BEFORE! ONCE IT CAN'T MOVE IT WILL BE An EASY TARGET!" – shouted Adam.
"DON'T SPEAK OBVIOUS STUFF! YOU DUMBASS!" – shouted Markus as he rushed at and unleashed a blast of wind, hitting the golem at point blank range and keeping it in place, which in turn gave other adventures opening to unleashed a hell at the golem.
(Numbers? Power? Speed?) – thought Thauma as it was trying to understand why its golem was getting once again wrecked.
"…"
(No…. It is in all areas.)
(The golems can't handle so many enemies on its own. Especially B-rank…. Just one is enough to keep that golem fully occupied.)
(I've thought if I may had added a heavy armor, it would allow the golem survive much longer…. However, at the same time, the max speed of the golem was singingly…. No…. This isn't it.)
(Even if the golem movement speed would be faster, it would end up easily getting destroyed.)
(The enemy is also finding quickly and dealing critical hits to the weak spots of the golem.)
(This is truly…)
(Pathetic.)
(I've thought it would definitely make some casualties, even just some C-ranks…. But no.)
(The enemy is just too strong.)
Pretty much, it was a straight up repeat of the past boss.
The construct was straight up trapped by the barrage of attacks unleashed by the adventures.
Crossbow, claws, fangs and even weapons… They did injured adventurers near the golem, but unfortunately, it has not killed anybody… Or more exactly, whenever somebody was close to dying, somebody would step in and quickly save them.
The healers were on standby and the B-ranks were making sure that the golem wouldn't pull out anything weird.
In the end, it was just straight up beat down.
The golem was facing way too many opponents at once, which also included multiple strong opponents it had no chance taking down even if they were alone.
Results?
The second boss monster defeat.
"…"
"Huh…."
"I've thought this would be…. Well, bit harder?" – said Mawa as he observed boss monster's body disappearing upon getting destroyed.
"Well…. It was? But…Em…" – said Elizabeth.
"…"
"It was only scary at first?"
"Like the heavy stomps and the crossbow."
"But after we understood how it work, it just felt like we are fighting that knight golem that was on top of that dog golem thing."
"I mean, it was straight it, wasn't it?" – said Markus, pointing how the golem in question was straight up two golems combined into one.
"…"
"Huh...Okay…." – said Mawa.
"Still, it did injured few of our guys… But at least no casualties."
"We are making nice and solid progress…..."
"And if all our speculation are correct, the next floor will be last one."
"We will soon the dungeon master of this place."
"…"
"Huh…. Now I'm curious." – said Elizabeth as she took out her water flask.
"What do you think the dungeon master will be?"
"A golem obviously. Why are you even asking such obvious question?" – said Markus as he started eating some dried meat.
"Well… Yea? But I'm talking about dungeon master here!" – said Elizabeth.
"Dungeon masters are unique beings and they are often one of the kinds. Sometimes they are mutated version of different monster species as well…" – said Mawa.
"And there is also that thing."
"?"
"Which?" – asked Elizabeth as she stuffed her mouth with food.
"The small golems and bomb spheres." – said Mawa.
"We have yet to encounter either of those things."
"We know the small golems disappeared…. Probably returned back to the dungeon."
"But why have we not seen them even once inside of this place!?"
"….This is worrying." – said Markus.
"If these trap mobs were at the last floor, it wouldn't make a bit of sense."
"They don't have any offensive ability, right?"
"Yea…. This a problem." – said Adam as he approached the group, with conflicted expression.
"I guess you noticed it too?"
"These bombs…. Why we haven't encountered them? They almost wiped us out back then… And yet, not even once we encounter anything explosive in either forest or the dungeon."
"And the small golems were completely gone as well." – said Mawa.
"To make matters worse, these golems can't think on their own."
"Something is controlling them."
"Something is giving them orders."
"Were the small golems the commanders?"
"We already talked about this possibility before, didn't we?" – said annoyed Markus.
"These things didn't had bombs on them and they were seen trying to observe the battlefield as well as out camp while hiding…. This would mean that they are one giving orders to-"
"No. I get what you are talking about, but are these golems really intelligent?" – said Mawa, cutting off Markus mid speech.
"?"
"What do you mean?" – asked curios Markus.
"Think about it." – said Mawa.
"Did we ever confirmed that these guys had intelligence?"
"What if they were also golems fallowing the commands?"
"?"
"But that wouldn't make sense." – said Elizabeth.
"If they weren't leaders, then who else would give commands to-"
"!"
"Wait….But that is…." – said Elizabeth as she realized something.
"?"
"What's it?" – asked annoyed Markus.
"Dungeon master." – said Elizabeth, instantly alarming both Markus and Adam.
"If we go by the process of elimination, the dungeon master seems to be the most likely bastard who controlled the golems the entire time!"
"…"
"OSCAR! GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!" – shouted Adam suddenly.
"….What the hell do you want?" – said annoyed mage as he approached the group while carrying some bread in his hand.
"Oscar. How much do you know about familiar type magic? Or stuff that allows you to create monsters?" – asked Adam.
"Em…. Not much. It is not really my area of expertise… But I do know some basic info." – replied thunder mage.
"Why? Why are you-"
"Just tell us what you know. Like, how many beings can single person control." – said Mawa.
"…."
"Well… It really depends on what kind of familiar you are using." – said Oscar.
"When it comes down familiar type of control, it depends if you are using a tamed creature or created creature."
"Guild master Wamr Wiowio specializes in using weaker tamed creatures as his familiars."
"He can establish a long-range link with them, which allows him to give a proper commands from far away and even share vision with his servants."
"However, the said link has a range. If the familiar is too far away, the link will be lost."
"Unless the mage made some precessions in that area."
"As for how many familiars the being can control…. Well…In really depends on the mage."
"Then… What about golems?" – said Mawa.
"Again. Not my area… But I did a little research after the whole last disaster that involved this place, just in case a job regarding this place would pop up." – replied Oscar.
"Golems are living construct that fallow sets of commands."
"You give it commands on what to do and describe it in details."
"And the golems just do that."
"Regarding long range orders, it is maybe possible? I think there was a skill that allows to do something like that…. But again, skill is a skill and it has limit."
"Probably it would be magic based on as well, so you would need some understanding of magic to properly use it."
"…"
"Okay…. Why…. Are you all making that kind of expression." – asked Oscar as he noticed worried and nervous look on each member of the group.
"…"
"So, it is possible." – said Markus to himself.
"…Yeb.... Oh, fuck me." – said Mawa.
(Now I'm worried.) – thought Mawa.
(What sort of being rules this dungeon?)
