Lord Of Puppets

Chapter 78 – Captured – Part 2.

[Q – Why is the kingdom of Garmfon fighting itself?]

"There…. There is a faction war going on between two factions." – replied beast-human.

"The noble faction and royal faction."

[Q – Why are they fighting each other?]

"To….. Well…. To Take over a kingdom?"

(How the hell do I explain it to this thing?)

(Although, he did knew about two kingdoms…. So….. Ah, fuck it.)

"As I've said before, there are two factions. Royal faction and noble faction."

"Noble faction is trying to take over the control over the kingdom, while the royal faction is trying to keep their power and authority from being stolen."

"Because of that, there is internal conflict within the entire kingdom all because of these two factions."

"Is this why you killed these people outside? Are you part of noble faction" – asked Thauma by writing down a question.

"Yes…..And no?" – replied beast-human.

"We are not really part of noble faction, we are just hired by them."

"But since we are working for them, the royal faction are our enemies."

[Q – Why are you in dungeon? What is your goal?]

"We..."

"…"

Thauma got ready to grab the man once again.

"W-WE WERE ORDERED TO DESTORY THE DUNGEON!" – replied the beast-human in panic as Thauma hand was about to reach him.

"!?"

"H-hey! What the fuck are you saying!?" – said the human soldier with slashed face.

"He is lying! We weren't ordered to destroy the dungeon!"

"…"

Thauma stared at the man with damaged face before then quickly grabbing him by his chest and then slamming him against the ground, straight up causing the man to caught out blood instantly, alarming the entire group as they watched the man trying to catch his breath.

"…"

"I'm not blind." – Thauma replied by writing.

"You were trying to destroy dungeon."

"Lie again and see what happens." – said Thauma before then looking towards the beast-human.

"Continue."

"Why were you ordered to destroy the dungeon?"

"…"

"To…..I don't know…." – said the panicking beast-human as he started sweating nervously as the puppet approached him.

"NON OF KNOW ANYTHING!"

"We were paid!"

"They paid us to destroy the dungeon and they didn't told us why!"

"That's all!"

"?"

(Paid?) – thought Thauma.

(….)

(Is this about that "money" stuff again?)

(People use it to have people do something or they use the "money" to "buy" something...Hm….)

(So, they used "money" to make them try and destroy the dungeon?)

"…"

"Truth." – Thauma written.

"I-I'm not lying!" – replied panicking beast-human.

"The only one who could had possibly knew it amongst us was the leader….. But…..Your monsters killed him."

"So…..Yea….." – said the nervous man as he tried avoiding the eye contact with the monster.

"…"

(Ah…. So, I killed the only person that knew something?) – thought Thauma.

(This is bit problematic.)

(….)

(Well, there is tons of other questions that I need answered at all cost and they may hold answer to these questions.)

[Q – What is the status of the war between two kingdoms?]

"???"

"…"

"Em…. The war has ended…. More than half year ago? Was it a year even?" – replied confused yet nervous beast-human.

"?!" – Thauma stared confused at the man, without really expressing itself since it didn't had a real face.

(Wait, how did that thing even knew about names of both kingdoms? Or about war? Just what does-)

"Explain." – written Thauma, interrupting the man who was suddenly lost in his thought process.

"W-well…. The war between two kingdoms ended very recently, with the kingdom of Garmfon claiming the victory." – replied beast-human who then began explaining in the details what had happened outside, starting from the war to the total destruction of the Marok as well it getting conquered by the Garmfon kingdom, absorbing its territory and riches.

(So, wait…. Back then…..) – thought Thauma.

(WHO THE HELL WERE THESE PEOPLE!?)

(IF THE WAR HAS ENDED BACK THEN, WHO WERE – NO! WHY WERE THEY-)

"…"

(Was my dungeon not exposed back then.... Was I SAFE back then!?)

(So….. Was that my fault?!)

(Was the dungeon exposed because of me!? I was still hidden back then!?)

(But I didn't…..I didn't…..)

"…"

(I didn't knew….)

(…)

(Dammit.)

(Informations…..If only I've had informations, maybe….. Dammit!)

(I've could had prevent everything!)

"…"

(FUCK!)

[Q – Why wasn't dungeon destroyed?]

"Em…I think I know the answer." – said the human who was once unconscious.

"From what I know, this dungeon is consider as one of the best dungeons in the future, that could become a national level dungeon."

"They just want to obtain profit."

"Why? Is this dungeon special in some way?" – asked Thauma.

"…"

"…"

"The…. The drop items…. No… The whole bodies of the golems have uses." – replied the human.

"Every single part of the monster that is created by this dungeon can have some uses."

"Not only that, this dungeon can also mass produce weapons and mana crystals, resulting in the value of this dungeon skyrocketing since there won't be even a single trash dropping out of slain monster bodies."

"If so, why haven't they used the so called 'dungeon taming' on me?" – asked Thauma.

"…. They…. They…..Em…." – the human started getting nervous.

"They wanted to make the dungeon grow?"

"They…. Em…."

"…"

"Speak." – Thauma put a piece of paper right in front of the man eyes, causing the man to sweat even more.

"T-they wanted the dungeon to grow stronger…. So, it would create stronger monsters that are possibly made out of richer materials." – said the nervous man.

"They thought that the stronger the dungeon is, the stronger monsters would pop out, that would also be extremely profitable."

"…"

(Knew it….) – thought Thauma.

(So, it was all about money-)

"But it isn't all." – the man continues.

"?" – Thauma stared in confusion.

"The noble faction was dead set on obtaining the dungeon at any cost."

"The noble faction wanted to obtain the dungeon in order to have a way of continuously obtaining new weapons."

"…"

(Weapons?) – thought surprised Thauma.

(I've thought it was all about money?)

(But by the looks of things they wanted-)

"?"

"…."

Thauma suddenly looked towards the man covered in blood and approached him, lifting up his head.

"…"

Thauma let go of the man before then having its golems drag the man away, alarming the entire group.

The human with wounded face wanted to scream, wanting to ask a question about where were they are taking their comrade….. But before he could do it, he saw the blood covered man's face…. Showing his lifeless expression.

"H-he is dead…" – said the man, instantly filling the group with fear.

However, before they could even grief or say something, Thauma instantly grabbed each person head with one of his hands and forced them to face the puppet.

"Next question." – the puppet didn't showed any emotions as the man was dragged away and instead just wanted to ask its next question.

"W-wait!" – shouted the panicking man with wounded face.

"Will we truly live!?"

"Will you truly let us live if we answer all of your questions!?"

"…"

"It all depends on you." – replied Thauma.

"Continue answering my questions without lying and you may live."

"Understand?"

"Y-yes! We understand! / Sure! / We will do everything!" – the group of people replied in pure panic, not wanting to share the fate as any of their comrades.

"Good." – said Thauma.

"Question."

"Who is your leader?"

<<Questions, questions, questions and even more questions.>>

<<Honestly, I've had countless.>>

<<There was so much I wanted to know.>>

<<Kingdoms, people, factions and all sort of stuff.>>

<<I NEEDED at all cost secure informations about current outside world. I needed to know what I'm facing and what is going on outside my field of vision.)

<<I've asked them and asked them more questions... The amount of informations….. Dammit.>>

<<I was really completely blind, wasn't I?>>

<<As I've asked more questions, I've started realizing that I needed these information far more than I've had originally thought.>>

<<This was my desperation.>>

<<A desperation that I needed take care off….. But it would obviously not go away with just few questions. No.>>

<<I needed them to answer ALL of my questions and that would obviously not take just few hours, but instead possible days.>>

<<I needed answer to my questions at all cost…. But I also couldn't have them dying on me like the man who bleed to death.>>

<<It was a huge waste. I cannot lose even a single one of them until they answer all of my questions.

<<So I've had to prepare a space to keep these people locked up so they wouldn't do anything without my permission and I've also needed to feed them in order to make sure they won't die.>>

<<Anyway, I've asked them countless questions about outside world, since this was something I desperately needed.>>

<<Some answer they knew, some answer they didn't knew.>>

<<But overall? I've obtained countless waves of informations.>>

<<I've understood in details why my dungeon wasn't destroyed. They saw me as source of money, power and as something called "political pawn".>>

<<Then there was a war between two kingdoms that had ended before I've realized and the new war between two factions.>>

<<The leaders of both factions.>>

<<Their goals.>>

<<And their methods.>>

<<And where do I fit in all of this.>>

<<Apparently Royal faction currently owns the dungeon and the noble faction wanted to steal the dungeon at all cost.>>

<<But out of nowhere, they suddenly ordered these people to destroy the dungeon at all cost and make it look like "terrorist did it".>>

<<They are saying that they don't know the real reason….. And honestly it didn't looked like they were hiding anything. They really didn't knew... Kind of regretting more the fact that I've killed their leader, since he seemed to be the one who held most valuable informations.>>

<<And there was also another problem.>>

<<These people had limited amount of knowledge and informations.>>

<<But still, their informations will be useful….. I think I may keep them for long time.>>

<<As for releasing them?>>

<<Honestly, I'm not planning to.>>

<<I mean, the reason is simple.>>

<<They would just tell everybody about me and that would screw me over big time.>>

<<The outside world will know too much about me….. And do they know that?>>

<<I mean, do they realize that the chances of me releasing them is right next to nothing?>>

<<So why are they answering my all questions loyally?>>

<<It didn't looked like they were deceiving me or anything…. Was it fear?>>

<<A "desperation?>>

<<Are they that desperate to survive?>>

<<…>>

<<So am I.>>

<<I'm also desperate to survive no matter what.>>

<<Hell, I remember that situation when the bear beastman enter the dungeon.>>

<<I was ready to beg for mercy.>>

<<I would lie and beg in order to survive….. So, is this similar?>>

<<….>>

<<So, I guess their weird desperation and blind faith in my promise makes sense from their point of view.>>

<<But that is for later.>>

<<I probably won't kill them….. Well, kill them isn't exactly the word.>>

<<More like I'm going to experiment on them once they stop being useful to me.>>

<<I will do the same kind of experiments I've did to my own beast monsters in order to research how they worked.>>

<<Living beings made out of flesh and bones are so different compare to me or my creations, the golems.>>

<<They need to eat, sleep, drink and so on to survive.>>

<<But they can get older, they can build up muscles and many more things.>>

<<They are so different, straight up nothing alike to us…..>>

<<And so I've killed my beasts.>>

<<I've tried cutting, tearing, smashing and all sort of things to my beasts.>>

<<I wanted to see their insides, their bones, their muscles, everything to understand how they work.>>

<<Honestly, this kind of messy research is…. Bit slow.>>

<<But it did helped me out in finding out some things.>>

<<And both the rabbits and wolves were different, not only from their sizes, but inside as well. Just like golems.>>

<<However, their bodies did not operated one bit like that of a golem.>>

<<The stuff they were made out of: Flesh and bones were nothing alike to steel and wood.>>

<<Or their organs.>>

<<Or these so called nerves.>>

<<I didn't understood all of it….. Yet at least, but I could tell this.>>

<<We are nothing alike.>>

<<And they are also nothing alike to each other.>>

<<Even though the rabbits and wolves were both made out of flesh, they were extremely different from each other!>>

<<A lot of things were different with them in many different ways.>>

<<Just like some of my golems who even if they share materials may be completely different outside and inside.>>

<<Then what about humans? How are they different?>>

<<Do they have different organs?>>

<<Are their bones working differently?>>

<<What kind of informations I could learn from experimenting on them?>>

<<There was so much that I can learn from them and maybe I could use the understanding of their bodies to my advantage?>>

<<Just like my golem hound! I've somewhat mimicked the wolfs shape and their limbs, which resulted in somewhat nice results for just experiment. These hounds were pretty much ready to go from get go.>>

<<True, it will take me a long time and the currently amount of informations that can be consider useful is very "small" to me….. But even if it a little, there is still some benefit from conducting them.>>

<<And that means I could possible obtain at least something from experimenting on these humans.>>

<<They may die during these experiments…. But it doesn't matter, since I can just use their corpse.>>

<<However, this will have to wait for later, since there is really no time to conduct these experiments as of this moment.>>

<<Instead, I need to start preparing myself.>>

<<If the informations they had given me and the speculations I have are correct…. Then both of these so called Noble and Royal factions will start moving.>>

<<And I may have some new enemies invading my dungeon.>>

<<But this time? I have informations about my enemies unlike before.>>

<<And I will make sure that the mistakes of the past won't repeat themselves.>>
