Lord Of Puppets

Chapter 98 – Kingdom of Garmfon VS Golem Dungeon – Part 2.

[1 hour later.]

*Huff* *Huff*

"Fuck me…. To these guys….. They really don't know when to give up." – said general before then slashing a hound golem with his axes, before then getting hit by a random soldier golem crossbow bolt.

"Tch! Take these ones down!" – the general quickly ran and hid behind a tree, hiding himself from the crossbow golems, before moments later the group of wolf beastmen ambushed the crossbow wielding golems, taking them down.

"!"

"OH SHIT!" – shouted the wolf beastman before then getting struck down by the axe wielding knight golem.

"…"

(This isn't good.)

*Inhale*

"RETREAT! ALL FORCES RETREAT!" – shouted general with his loud.

"LEAVE THE FOREST THIS INSTANT! NOW!"

"?"

"Eh? Retreat?" – asked confused soldier.

"Don't know….. But I don't like the sound of that."

With the sudden command, the soldiers began retreating as the golems chased after them…. However, in the end, the soldiers were able to escape the forest and quickly head to their main camp while also dealing with any golems that tried chasing after them.

But obviously, it wasn't an easy retreat, as both golems that were equipped with crossbows or the fast moving hound golems were able to give chase, wounding and managing to even kill few of the soldiers who tried to escape.

However, it the end, most of the soldiers ended up escaping to the safety.

"…"

"They are not chasing after us." – said the beast-human soldier as he gazed at the forest.

"But they are waiting." – replied beast-human knight.

"General orders. Keep watch. There is good chance that they may attack."

"Yes sir!" – replied beast-human soldier.

"…"

"Dammit." – said the general as he looked around, noticing how all of his soldiers were covered in wounds.

(The hell was that?!)

(I mean, I was surprised at first with how many golems there was, but then more and even more showed up?!)

(Just how many monsters are there in that forest?)

(Not only that, this things weren't alive.)

(A nonstop fighting like had already exhausted us….. But these fuckers?)

(They can keep going.)

(I never dealt with these so called golems, but I could tell.)

(They are not getting tired.)

(As long as they are still operation, they can fight.)

(…)

(And they don't fear.)

(For a human…. No. For any living being there is a hesitation, a fear that can make them stop in tracks.)

(Or just simple confusion.)

(But these bastards don't have it.)

(They attack nonstop.)

(They don't care if they are destroyed…. Or more like they are unable to care.)

"…"

"A army of monsters that never tires, never falters and never gives up?"

"This is just perfect…"

"…"

(But this is something we need.)

(Ash….. He told me that we will need money….. But this?!)

(NO!)

(THIS IS NO LONGER ABOUT MONEY!)

(Those things are not real beings, right!? Constructs?!)

(I've heard that kingdom of pigs also had their own golems, but more or less only for construction….. But what if we were to learn how to recreate these golems here as our own soldiers?)

(Ash isn't seeing a full picture here!)

(This dungeon is far more important than he could had ever imagined!) – thought the general, realizing that obtaining the dungeon isn't just something that could help out in the kingdom finances, but could also possible boost if not evolve the entire kingdom military strength, turning the nation of Garmfon into something more than it was before.

"…"

(Then again…. How do we deal with these golems?)

(When it comes to endurance, the beastman have way more stamina than humans, this also includes beast-humans.)

(However, the enemy doesn't get tired.)

(And the numbers aren't the only problems.)

(These knights.)

(They are far superiors than other golems.) – thought general as he approached the box which contained some of the remains of the golems, including the remains of the knight golems.

(Weapons and their armor….. Or their bodies? Whichever it is, both are problematic.) – thought the beastman general as he picked up the blade and head of the golem knight.

(This armor is definitely something above basic quality that our soldiers are wearing and this blade…. Is extremely deadly.)

(My own axes which are made from black iron ended up receiving a lot of damage from just hitting these bastards.) – thought the beastman as he inspected his blades.

"…"

*Sigh*

"This won't be easy."

(But it is not like we will get any more reinforcements.)

(Or more exactly, we can't.)

(We already running low on soldiers in the first place, so it is even a miracle we were able to assemble as large army as this one.)

(Honestly, I've thought we would be able to overwhelmed this monsters with numbers alone….. But it won't work.)

(Or more exactly, it will work, but we will have way too high loses.)

"Shit."

"Hey! You!"

"Get me here that Igor bastard!"

"I need him and his boys look into these things and tell me if they can find any weakness on this things!"

[Meanwhile: Territory outside the dungeon]

"…"

(Some golems have returned….. They seems damaged….. But the fighting has stopped.) – thought Thauma as it was using the monkey like golem to inspect the surrounding, spotting.

(By the looks of things the enemy has either had been eliminated…. Or they had escaped the forest.)

"…"

(I can't tell yet.)

(If the number of corpse that will be brough to the dungeon isn't enough and if their value isn't high enough, it would end up potting at the second possibly, the escape.)

"…"

"Okay….. This is definitely not some pieces of iron." – said the man inspecting the knight golem remains.

[Igor – Blacksmith and equipment repair specialist]

"Those things were made definitely by a proper blacksmith."

"Like a one with experience and knowledge."

"Some random bum would not be able to make something as this."

"It definitely looks like it was forged."

"And you say that this dungeon produces this stuff?"

"Yea, yea. Just tell me for now if you found anything like weakness on this things." -Said wolf beastman general.

"Em.... This may take a while." - replied Igor.

"I've never dealt with anything golems.... I never even knew before what the hell golem is."

"How long will it take." - said angry the wolf beastman.

"I-I don't know."- replied the smith.

"Tch. Then find it soon." - said general before then he turned around and began walking away alongside his wolf knights.

(Earth and fire magic apparently was the golems weak points... But these new golems aren't mostly made out of wood... Those knight are made out of pure iron.)

(So does that mean blunt weapons are only way to go?)

Truth to be told, the best strategy would be just staying in the camp and trying to find out whenever or not the golems have some sort of weakness or weak spots.... But there was a problem.

Their opponent was a dungeon.

A structure that not only grows overtime, but also produces monsters nonstop.

And to make matters worse, these golems weren't real living beings with their own thoughts or needs.

They don't need the corpse of the soldiers for anything.

And they will follow orders, even after getting manifested.

So, what will happened to the corpse and remains of the soldiers that were left behind in the forest?

"What do you mean the corpse of our soldiers are gone?!" - said confused and shocked beastman as the group of scouts came to report their discovery.

"Yes sir." - replied the beast-human scout.

"The golems had been gathering and dragging any remains and weapons that were left behind, towards the inner parts of the forest.

"We wanted, to fallow after them, but there was just way too many monsters in area."

"..."

"But why?" - said confused general.

"Do these things need to eat? But they didn't had anything like organs?"

(Corpses and weapons? Why?)

"Hey. Is there anything special about monsters that leave the dungeon?"

"Well... If I'm correct, they are.... Well, real?" - replied beastman knight.

"Like, they need to eat and stuff?"

"Even I bloody know that." - replied annoyed general as he stared at the knight.

"Everybody knows that!"

"What I want to know is why would these things need corpse and our weapon for?"

(Their equipped didn't looked like ours, so it is not like they are stealing and using our equipment.)

"..."

"Sir.... If I may." - spoke up suddenly one of wolf knights.

"This maybe a bit of stretch... But what if the golems are dragging soldier remains to the dungeon?"

"?"

"What do you mean?" - asked confused yet alarmed beastman general.

"Well... These things don't seem need to eat anything to survive, right?" - replied beastman knight.

"And apparently the dungeon is located somewhere in the center of the forest, exactly where the dungeon is."

"Is there a chance that these monsters are trying to feed the dungeon?"

"..."

(Wait... Wait a bloody second.... Holy shit!) - thought the beastman as he started putting pieces together in his head, realizing that what his knight just said may or may not had been correct.

(If what he said is correct... Then-)

"We may have a huge disaster at our hands."
