A look of understanding appeared on the previously confused students of section S0 after hearing the words of Kathrine.
However, two were still confused, first was of course the self-proclaimed handsomest man in the world or worlds, Jaden. The second was the topper in the theoretical studies of the first year, Zaria.
'Then why is Zaria here? Considering her meek demeanour, I don't think she is fit for this section...' Jaden frowned in thought as he glanced at Zaria.
Zaria also had the same question tugging at her mind. She raised her hand and Kathrine gave her a nod and spoke, "I am just getting to it, student Zaria."
Zaria lowered her hand and waited for Kathrine to answer the question plaguing her mind.
"Some of you may already know student Zaria, she is the theoretical topper of your first year. She may not possess the same strength as most of you, but to survive the treacherous reaches of the dream realm you need both brawn and brain. And Zaria is the sharpest brain from all of you," Kathrine said proudly.
Hearing her praises, Zaria lowered her head, which had turned beet red and imaginary smoke seemed to come out of her hand.
"T-thanks, miss Kathrine," she mumbled flusteredly.
Kathrine gave her a soft smile and continued her words, "Before we start our class, I want to explain to all of you about the academy. Considering that some of you are unaware of my presence it would not be a stretch if they did not know about the academy either."
A few of the students turned to Jaden, some of them bore a smug expression, while most of them were expressionless as their hollow eyes gleamed with endless darkness.
Feeling their stares he looked into the eyes of one of the students who seemed too clean, too... human to be with them.
That student was David Holmen, son of a Master ranked arcane knight who worked under the Sun Ducal family. From his preteen years, he was considered one of the top talents within the great nation of Solaria.
Because of that he was able to enter a location with human activity within the dream realm, thus surviving without doing anything. He did feel a bit sad about it but that sadness went up in smoke when he saw his first nightmare creature. He still remembered that truck-sized moth which had countless eyes that dripped with blood... not of its own but of its countless prey.
That was the first time he felt fear that stopped him even from breathing, let alone doing anything. After returning, he had worked with blood and sweat to never feel the same, and he did progress futher. He was happy, prideful even, but—
As his eyes met with Jaden's cold blue eyes, he suddenly felt as if he was standing before a nightmare creature much more disastrous than the moth... that creature was a two-horned black-white furred wolf.
His body shivered from fear, and his thoughts froze, but before he could fall deeper into the despair, a worried voice called out to him.
"Student David? What's wrong?" It was Kathrine's voice.
Hearing Kathrine's voice, David came out of his stupor and found himself standing at the right end of the bench. He let out a shaky breath before replying to Kathrine, "I-i am alright, Miss Kathrine."
He peeked at Jaden from the corners of his eyes before taking his seat, his hands were still trembling.
Jaden looked at him with a confused look as he thought, 'Why is he acting like that? And who even is he?'
"Attention," Kathrine shouted, she no longer had a smile as she continued.
"I warn all of you that you stop treating me like a joke or I will make you stop by myself," as she finished the classroom turned hotter and the sunlight turned brighter.
Everyone present within the room suddenly felt as if they were looking at a flame spirit instead of a human.
She clapped once, and everything returned to normal, just like her smile.
"In the first year of the academy, we take admission of those who are between the ages of 15 and 17. We teach them how to survive within the horrendous dreams and those who awaken and become arcane knights are then promoted to the second year. Within the second year, you are taught anything you want to learn. Be it combat, history, geography... anything," she paused to let her words sink in.
A moment later, she continued, "But there is only one subject that is a must for all students and that is Mana studies. The subject. I, Kathrine Marine, am the teacher and instructor of."
Hearing those words Jaden's eyes widened as he mumbled in his head, 'She is both a teacher and an instructor? Is that even possible...? Also, did she just say Marine?'
He glanced at her with intense eyes as he thought, 'Does she have any relation with the author of that book?'
'Hah... I am being too paranoid after seeing those books... I should just focus on the class, instead,' he concluded and locked off all of his thoughts and focused on Kathrine who was writing something on the smart board.
Her right hand slid across the board as she drew a chart of mana and the elementals, "All of you already know about the existence of mana and elementals within the environment of all realms. But each realm has a different concentration and variant of mana. Like the mana in the dream realm has more darkness elementals, while the mana of the mortal realm has more fire and water elementals. The latter is also thinner compared to the former."
The students frowned at her words because that was something they already knew about. However, she didn't care about their looks and continued, "That is also the reason why we are restricted from our full strength in different realms."
