The system panel flashed, and Everlearn gladly continued.
It was a new feature that allowed Everlearn to save everything he saw while it was activated, and as he looked through the scrolls, he was also saving them to translate later.
He went through each one, time and time again, climbing up higher and higher into the shelves until his head hit the farthest top of the shelves, where an iron lay.
"That's enough."
The voice in his head instructed, and he hummed slightly, putting down the scrolls.
He turned upward, eyeing the lock on the wall, and was about to push it up and get out of here when a reflection caught his eye on the door panel.
He couldn't see it before, but now that the level he was on was high up from the ground where he came from, there was something ruined within the ground.
Not a scroll, but…
"Hey, can you feel that ripple?" Everlearn suddenly asked.
'What ripple…' the NCEG voice suddenly called out.
But in that moment, Everlearn ordered,
"Hey, system. Temporarily sever connection."
In the next moment, the funny feelings in his eyes disappeared as the NCEG eye scan was removed.
The second, his movement was no longer under monitoring. Everlearn turned downwards, and now he could see it.
The entire library, the entire shelves of books, and even the ground, all of it was in the shape of a scroll!
A large scroll with symbols made of the shelves and the ground itself.
"It's like… It's like the library itself is one big scroll of its own…" he mused silently to himself, and in that moment, his eyes scanned through the scroll, picking up on every detail.
A sudden headache set in right then, making his eyes dizzy the second he finished going through the symbols.
'Did I exert my brain too much?" he mused silently, rubbing his eyes, and feeling the dizziness clear off.
He shrugged at the bizarreness, deactivated the system feature before he ordered it to return the connection.
"Everlearn, you okay? We lost connection there for a moment…"
"Yes. I just felt some strange ripple that made me dizzy. I think this gate leads outside the library," he said, bringing his attention away from that to the cold iron door in the sky.
Exerting strength, Everlearn pushed up against it, and a glint of light shone through his eyes when he felt a sudden pull on his body.
He didn't resist the pull, allowing it to drag him, and he disappeared into the darkness — the iron on the library roofing shutting itself to close.
____
"Huh?"
When Everlearn popped his head out and the vision cleared, he was left dumbfounded.
Running towards him were four people.
And they were none other than the 2nd years, whose eyes widened when they saw his head poking out of a hole in the ground.
"RUUUUUN!!!"
They screamed at him from afar, and Everlearn raised an eyebrow.
That was when he felt the vibration on the ground, and he turned forward, just behind the 2nd years.
"Holy fickoly!"
He screamed in shock, and in the next moment, Everlearn jumped out of the hole he was in, sprinting away with every bone and muscle.
The 2nd-year students were being chased.
But what was chasing them?
Goats.
But not any goats.
They were 2 meters tall, bony creatures with four horns instead of two.
And what was truly terrifying was that they were endless.
As far as the eye could see, countless goats charged after them with relentless fury, their powerful hooves splitting the ground beneath them.
Everlearn ran with everything he had, but they soon caught up to him, sweat streaming down his face.
"Dude, run faster!"
The second year said, looking at Everlearn.
Even though he had been ten meters away at first, they had already caught up to him.
"What the fuck did you guys do?"
Everlearn shouted back at the one who shouted, and everyone's gaze turned to the only lady in the group.
The purple-haired one, who stared back at them blankly.
"Somebody pressed a wrong button."
A dude quite fat with brown hair and eyes, replied as Everlearn clasped his forehead.
A wrong button in a ruin like this was the worst mistake anyone could make.
"Hey, Everlearn, you're finally reunited with the group!?"
The NCEG voice rang in his ears as all five of them sprinted forward.
"Yes, I did. I wish I never did though," he mused silently as he looked forward and found what seemed to be a large wall.
It was a dead end!
His eyes turned to the far left, and the wall continued to the left.
Eyes turned to the right, and the wall continued to the right.
Eyes turned up to see if he could climb the wall and found no end to it; the wall continued up just as far.
"The undead goats can't climb. Quick, to the wall and climb!" Emiris said, and all of them immediately ran to it.
Tapping on an automaton at the side, Everlearn's Nanosuit morphed, forming something like a glove that covered his palm.
When he pressed his hands against the wall, it held firm, and Everlearn quickly pulled himself upward.
Each of them climbed to about 300 meters before stopping.
Turning downwards, it was just as Emiris had said.
The bony goats couldn't climb, so they remained down, knocking their horns upon the walls and sending powerful reverberations, but the wall held firm.
"Huuu, finally got out of it," the purple-haired lady said, as all eyes immediately turned to her.
"All of this is your fault, Penelope," the chubby dude shouted.
"My fault. How is it my fault, Zeke?" Penelope replied with raised eyebrows.
"Of course it's your fault!"
"Everyone knew shiny stuff in a ruin is a trap, and you still picked up that earring even after Emiris warned not to touch anything, allowing the goats to escape their binds."
"If that wall had not opened when it did and allowed us out, we would have been rammed to death by them!"
