Mecha Devourer System

Chapter 57: A Shocking Truth!

[{You Have Received a Battle Challenge.}]

"A challenge already? It's been barely a minute!"Everlearn mused dumbly.

He had barely gotten 150 points added, but the system already picked that up and posted it, and now, he's got a challenge waiting for him.

A couple more notifications appeared:

[{Note: Due to it being your first challenge, no withdrawals of points can take place until the challenge is accepted or rejected.}]

[{You have three days to accept or reject.}]

[{Failure to do this will mean an automatic loss, and your points will be sent to the challenger.}]

[{You can only reject up to three times, while accepting a challenge and winning will give you 5 days of rest, where you will be offline from being challenged!}]

Everlearn hummed in understanding it.

If he took the challenge now and won, he would have 5 days of freedom where he could spend his points.

But if he rejected, he would only get another person challenging the second time, and the third time, he must accept it, the duration of which he won't be able to use his points.

Everlearn swipe away the notification, neither accepting nor rejecting.

Tomorrow would be his fourth day in the academy, and then, he would be able to undergo his fusion.

He wanted to do that in peak condition, something that might not be possible if he accepted the challenge.

Besides, there was already some attention upon him due to his strength.

Everyone knew he was still an human, yet so strong.

If he went and accepted the challenge, and the one who had challenged was a well-known Corer, and yet he still managed to defeat him, it would result in an uproar.

But once he underwent core fusion, things would make more sense, and besides, he would have a practice dummy that he could test his new fusion against.

Hence, he made the choice to delay until he finished his core fusion.

With that sorted out, he didn't immediately move to his dorm room.

Instead, he checked his map and confirmed:

Class was over for today.

Swiping to the map, he confirmed the location before resuming his steps.

Ten minutes later, Everlearn was standing before a building.

Checking his map, he confirmed the location before he moved toward the glass door, pushing it open.

Stepping in, he found himself in an empty white hall.

Even though ginormous, there was only a single glassy white desk, behind which sat a chair, and hovering mid-air at the top of the desk was a ball the size of a soccer ball.

Its surface was glassy, its colour, a dull silver.

Looking behind the table, there was a man:

Snow white, with a spectacle on his face.

He had a book in his hands, and as Everlearn stepped in, the man raised his gaze, turning to him.

A glint flashed through his green eyes as he looked at him.

"Did you lose your way?"

The words rang out from him as Everlearn stepped closer to the desk.

"No, not really. I came here to take my Affinity Test…"

He answered as the man hummed, placing down the book and slightly shifting his spectacles.

"What's your name?" he asked, as the floor before the desk suddenly rippled and out rose a chair, which the man pointed at, signaling him to have a seat.

"I am Everlearn. Everlearn Snowfall," he replied.

"What year are you?"

"First year."

A second after he replied, the man's left finger rose slightly, and Everlearn watched as a green-colored holographic panel appeared, which his fingers rapidly tapped on.

"Is this the first time you'll be taking the test?" he asked, and Everlearn shook his head.

"No. I've taken it once before, when I was younger…" he said, as the man paused his hands, turning to him.

"But?" he said.

"But I'm not confident of those test results, so just to be 100% sure, I want to do a retake," he answered.

It was a viable explanation to Malvris.

"Alright then," He said, a second panel shifting, and he quickly typed on it.

But then Malvris' finger paused as he tilted his glasses, unconsciously leaning closer to the screen.

'How bizarre,' He thought silently, but he only paused for a moment as his fingers continued typing.

WHIRRRR

Half a minute later, Everlearn watched as the hovering ball above began to finally let loose some silver illumination, turning from its dead look to something more alive.

"When the lights from the gem turn from silvery to white, then you can place your hands on it," Malvris said as Everlearn waited quietly.

It didn't take too long, just a minute, and the ball was bright.

"Right hand, or?" he asked, stretching his hand forward.

"Use both to be sure."

He answered, and Everlearn nodded, placing both hands around the ball.

The light from the ball quickly started to change:

From white to yellow, then after a couple more seconds, it changed to indigo, and finally, it settled at blue.

It didn't change after that, even after Everlearn had his hands on it for five minutes, and Malvris nodded to him to withdraw his hands.

"Normally, the affinity grade of a student will always be included in their ID upon entrance, but for some reason, yours was empty."

Malvris explained, and Everlearn's heartbeat began to spike.

"But now, I have it confirmed and saved it."

"Your Affinity Grade Talent is…"

Ba-dump! Ba-dump!

The sound of his heartbeat echoed through the room, something that didn't escape Malvris's hearing, and he turned to look at Everlearn, pausing silently for a while before he called out:

"D-Grade."

"That's… that's impossible,"
