"Look, kid, I know that's low," Malvris said, snapping Everlearn out of his thoughts.
"But you must know, the 17th strongest Corer on Endearth has a D-Grade Talent."
"His name is Sir Gion Rocknord, and he's a graduate of X-Guard Academy." He said, as Everlearn's brow creased.
"Even if you have a D-Grade Talent, so long as you work harder in this academy and genuinely try your very best in every aspect of it, you will make a name for yourself and rise higher than even those with A-Grade talents."
"So stop being doubtful of your Core affinity test, and just embrace it. Okay?" He said, attempting to cheer up the boy.
Everlearn reigned down the shock in his heart before he silently rose
"Thank you," he said, making his way out the exit.
A couple of seconds after he was gone...
"How weird… when did the academy start forgetting to put in a student's affinity grade in their IDs?"
Malvris uttered as the hovering ball turned back to silver, and he picked up his book, continuing to read.
_________
Everlearn, walking through the pavement even with the air around and vehicles whizzing past him, was completely lost.
"How?"
It was supposed to be impossible.
Affinity grades were Nvidian cells in the human body that enabled them to fuse with Mechas, and these cells were numbered from birth.
The more you have, the better your grade is.
The Grade Classification went from A to E, with extremes being the Mythic S-Rank and the F-Rank, which was also almost impossible since F denoted having zero of these cells.
But Everlearn wasn't just F, meaning he had none at all.
He was even labeled FFF by the one who had tested him, to signify that he had absolutely nothing of the Nvidian cells, with zero chance of ever possessing one.
That grade was almost like telling someone he's not a Nvidian at all.
It had been shocking when he received it, but he had eventually gotten over it.
Yet now it was D-Grade!?
Was the previous test a mistake?
The memory of the notification he had received from the system couldn't help but flash in his mind, its exact words:
____________
[The Level Up doesn't just make you punch harder, it flushes out old cells, recreates new and better cells, and removes all toxic fluids from you.]
[That's how you grow stronger. So, now that you're better than when you took the test last time, why not check if your potential is FFF? It might have increased.]
____________
The system's hypothesis was right.
His FFF-grade potential did increase to D-grade.
This meant the leveling up didn't just boost the strength. It was boosting his potential, too.
That led to another crazy hypothesis popping up in Everlearn's head.
'If my potential increases with each level up, then does it mean when I reach, say, Level 30 or Level 50, I'll surpass the current D-Grade and even reach B or A Grade?'
'What if I kept leveling up even after, would I reach S-Rank and one day even surpass S-Rank!?'
If that were to happen, it would be insane.
But at least now that Everlearn had confirmed he was D-Grade, he felt the pressure in his heart lighten a bit.
Those with lower affinity grades usually ended up dying when trying to fuse with Cores.
It wasn't just the opportunity of fusing with one; if your talent sucked and you still adamantly went on and tried, you are just paying for your own death.
That was why he had been a bit worried.
But now with D-Grade, that worry of dying no longer holds.
While D-Grade was far from being truly great, since greatness started from C here in X Guard, it was still decent enough and would allow him to fuse without any problems.
He looked at his schedule and saw that there was only one class tomorrow, scheduled for 6:30 in the morning.
It was a three-hour class ending at 9:30.
"I'll go to the Core Fusion Lab at 10."
He had no idea how long it would take to fuse, but it shouldn't be more than a day, and if he went early in the morning, he should be back to bed by night.
"I can't wait,"
Everlearn mused, unable to contain the excitement welling up in his heart.
"Hey, heads up!"
The voice called from behind, and Everlearn turned just to find a hoverboard whooshing toward his face with speed.
With his fast reflexes, his hand moved, grabbing the edge of the hoverboard, and it held back just three inches away from both of his eyeballs.
"What the,"
A curse echoed out as the one who was on the hoverboard was suddenly sent flying off it.
He rolled a couple of times on the ground before smashing into a pole light by the side and coming to a stop.
"Jaxon fell!?"
"No. It was that dude who tripped him!"
"Hey, what the hell did you think you're doing!?"
Immediately, about seven others on hoverboards already surrounded Everlearn.
It was the same thing about those who flew hoverboards; they were usually in groups.
Everlearn slowly let go of the hoverboard at his face as he turned to them.
"I don't know, maybe trying not to get blinded by a hoverboard?' He asked, throwing the hoverboard back to them.
If he had truly been an ordinary human and not grabbed the hoverboard when he did, those things would have smashed into his eyes, and with such speed, there was zero chance his eyeballs wouldn't have immediately blown up with a bang inside his skull.
"Jaxon is new. And you have no right to just whisk off his hoverboard from his feet like that," a female amongst them protested.
"If he's new, then he shouldn't be blitzing past."
He responded, resuming his walk.
Walking past Jaxon, who had collided with the pole, the dude wasn't having it at all, still feeling the stinging pain on his back.
"An ordinary human talking big. So what if your eyes got blinded? You don't belong, trash!"
He said out, and immediately,
BOOOOM!
The air trembled as a fist shot forward, aiming straight for the back of Everlearn's head.
