Finally, the Bull-Demon from before called out calmly.
"Winner… number 854."
Hearing his name being called, Modret casually walked toward the location of the bull demon and, just as he noticed the half-human from before doing, he copied the same mannerism and retrieved the treasure.
The bull monster stretched his limb to hand Modret the relic, then paused midway.
"You are strong."
Not knowing what to reply, Modret remained silent and quietly retrieved the treasure from the beast's hand.
Feeling the familiar sensation in this treasure, the same one he had felt back then in the celestial gate, Modret was certain it was the same.
But then, how did the beasts get their hands on so many of it?
Besides, for them to hand these little things over to the fighters, they needed to have many more in store to satisfy their needs.
Only then would they be willing to casually toss the remaining treasures to the half-humans they deemed beneath them, all for their amusement.
Modret's eyes flickered with deep, contemplative thoughts as he quietly returned to his prison under the watchful gazes of the crowd of beasts.
The cheers from the awakened beasts were still echoing into the surroundings even as Modret was led back to the cell.
He entered the cell and noticed the surprise in the eyes of his cell mates.
"You're pretty strong, huh?" the lady with purple hair exclaimed internally with a faint smirk.
Modret just shrugged, then walked to the corner of the cell and sat down.
"Now, are you interested in talks about leaving this place? How about creating a unique place where half-humans rule?"
Modret noticed the interest in their eyes at his words.
He could tell they were tempted by the idea. And having suffered in the hands of the awakened beasts for a long time, having a place to themselves was similar to having a safe haven.
After handing the bait out, Modret closed his eyes to recover his mana.
Aside from the fight he had with the universe realm half-human today, constantly using his Elemental Sovereign State was extremely taxing on him and was constantly draining his mana.
In this manner, Modret spent more than twenty minutes recovering his mana when he felt a slight shift in the air.
His eyes snapped open instantly, and he noticed that at some point, the fairy had arrived.
She floated gently in front of him with a peculiar expression.
Modret raised a curious brow toward the floating fairy.
'So? What did you discover?'
Hearing his question, the fairy began explaining.
{The remaining treasures, which number in the hundreds, are located…}
'Hundreds?' Modret's eyes showed some greed at the mention of such a number. After that, he went on to ask the fairy about the strength of the awakened beasts.
{Aside from those five that are above the universe realm, the remaining are pretty weak and are just at the universe realm and below.}
Listening to the explanation, Modret nodded. Then asked, 'Do you think the group present here have a chance to escape alive?'
The fairy shook her head.
{You do, along with a few others, but the remaining will have to serve as meat shields for you guys to escape the location of the five Space Core experts.}
'Space Core?' Modret was startled.
{Yes. That is the realm above Universe Realm.}
'I see.' Modret nodded in understanding, then went on to ask the fairy a few more questions.
When he was finally done, he shifted his attention to the group of cell mates after unsummoning the fairy.
He had to rally up the crowd so they could try to cause a rebellion together.
Modret glanced around and noticed that guards were still coming in and taking fighters out.
He waited briefly for more than two hours, using the time to meditate, before the awakened beasts' guards no longer came to select fighters.
Modret watched as they sealed the gate shut, then footsteps fading resounded in the chilly dungeon.
All sorts of words began echoing from the dungeon.
Some were curses toward the awakened beasts, while others were just cursing their bad luck. There were also some half-humans whom Modret could hear sobbing.
It was clear they were mourning the loss of one of the half-humans who had died in the battles today.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Modret's lips. Since this was the situation within the cell, his plan wouldn't be difficult to execute after all.
He casually cleared his throat, then began bluntly stating the situation to his cell mates.
"It's only a matter of time before the awakened beasts kill us off completely to satiate their excitement. Today we lost just a few of our kind, tomorrow it just might be much more…"
"However, there is a way to handle everything. Tonight… we just need to launch a surprise attack. The awakened beasts wouldn't have their guards up, so they wouldn't expect the attacks. Catching them off guard, we will definitely emerge victorious."
"We only need our ten strongest to deal with beasts above the universe level. Two for each. In fact, I am willing to handle one of the bosses here all by myself."
Modret said all these in one breath and waited for a reply from the prisoners.
There was silence, and the silence stretched on for a long while before one of the prisoners scoffed internally.
"How do you think the bosses here are dumb or something? Because you want to leave, you think you can leave? How laughable…"
The others within the cell also burst out laughing, not believing Modret's words in the slightest.
Even if they wanted to leave, there was no chance of escaping now, as they had lost their chance at freedom the moment they were captured.
Modret noticed the disbelief in their words and could tell they didn't trust him in the slightest. But the seed had been sown — there were others who were previously speaking and sobbing and had now fallen silent.
It was clear most of them understood Modret's words were the truth, and it was only a matter of time before they died.
They had to at least grab onto this chance of victory for themselves!
Many of the half-humans fell into deep thought; however, since this was the first day, none of them made a move to agree with Modret's plan for fear that it might be a trap from the awakened beasts to eliminate all those planning to rebel.
Seeing this, Modret just shook his head under the intense gaze of his cell mates.
They were stupefied that Modret hadn't listened to their words and was instead going ahead with the goal of leaving the cell.
Was he dumb?
Or perhaps he had the strength to be confident?
They hadn't seen Modret's fight, but they knew it was an extremely short one from how soon Modret returned from the battle.
If that was the case, could it be that he was hiding his true strength and had actually come to save them?
Modret's cell mates were filled with questions, but none of them opened their mouths, deciding to wait patiently to see if the movements would continue for the next few days.
Modret ignored the group and closed his eyes, entering into a state of absorbing mana from the surroundings to continue recovering his reserves, which were being drained at a rapid speed.
Finally, after a long time, Modret had finished recovering his mana, but by then it was already morning.
The same sequence of events as yesterday repeated itself; however, today, Modret wasn't called to engage in any battle with the other half-humans.
It was on his third day of staying there that Modret was called to engage in a battle with another half-human.
Unsurprisingly, Modret eliminated his opponent and returned to the cell a few seconds later, under the surprise of everyone.
That night, Modret 'preached' about leaving the prison once more.
…
One week passed in this manner, and gradually, the voices of resistance toward the rebellion had died down.
Modret could tell that their hearts, once filled with fear, were gradually understanding the deadly truth of the matter.
In the past week, more than forty half-humans had died due to battle.
The truth was clear.
Their deaths were inevitable if they didn't rebel.
At least if they rebelled, they would have a chance at survival.
But if they didn't…
They would die either way.
Understanding this, gradually, voices of agreement toward Modret's plan began sounding out.
The next day, Modret had just finished his battle when he spotted something — or perhaps someone — through the corner of his eye.
'Axel?' Sensing the familiar bond between them, Modret was slightly surprised.
Then, he understood.
He had been absent for more than a week, after all. It was obvious that Axel would be worried about him.
'Nonetheless, he came at the right time. With his help, taking the treasures will be far easier than normal.'
Modret thought with a faint smirk as he returned to the cell, meanwhile signaling for Axel not to make any careless movements.
