Dante was standing amongst the chaos as bodies were being thrown into the Domain by the creepy Rotlings. While this happened, Lilith appeared from a portal that opened nearby, a smirk crossing her face. ''I knew you couldn't resist, I sensed the death and wanted to see what you were up to,'' she said.
''Where's Luna?''
The blonde giggled at the words as she answered. ''Sleeping like a Cave Troll, was there any powerful humans here?''
''No,'' Dante replied with a smile. ''Most were common soldiers apart from the commanders, who were D-Rank at most, which is disappointing.''
Following that, they left the Darkmoore camp and climbed on the Death Wyverns' backs. He needed to shock the monster as it gorged on the animals the army had. ''Come on, let's look for more castles. I need more bodies for the Domain,'' he ordered.
The creature stood up, stretching out its wings, and took off before heading further north, where it encountered many battlefields littered with the dead. Dante ordered the Wyvern to land as a string of notifications popped up in its vision.
[Death Points Earned: 1000]
[Death Points Earned: 6000]
[Death Points Earned: 2000]
[Death Points Earned: 3000]
Moments later, the Death Wyvern plummeted toward the ground just beyond one of the battlefields, its massive body shaking the earth. Dante leapt from its back, landing with a thud, Lilith trailing closely behind. With a wave, he summoned a swarm of Ghouls that surged forward to collect the fallen soldiers' corpses.
His sharp red eyes caught a flicker of movement in the shadows. In an instant, he vanished, reappearing before a dense thicket where a Blood Fiend crouched. The creature, humanoid only in silhouette, was a grotesque mockery of life, skinless, with jagged rows of razor-sharp teeth and claws honed for shredding flesh.
Dante's hand shot out, grabbing the monster by the neck and snapping it just as Death Ghouls rushed passed him and tore into the remaining Blood Fiends, turning them into gore pools. He was surprised by the speed and strength of the undead, causing him to glance at Lilith, who gave him a bright smile.
''Told you they'd be stronger,'' she chirped, approaching him.
''That they are, my Death Witch,'' he responded, laughing at her excited expression.
Just then, the Wyvern let out a deep growl, causing Dante to spin around as three humans stepped into view. He was just about to attack them, but the leader dropped to his knees, exclaiming. ''Death Monarch! We've come to serve you!''
''Huh?!''
The human man, who was in his late forties, had a big grey beard, no hair, and was on the chubbier side of life, continued. ''I am the steward of the Death Cult of Dawnfen, waiting for the rightful one to return. The Death Goddess showed me in a dream that you'd be at the Crying Fields, and here you are.''
Dante was confused alongside Lilith, who shook her head, baffled at the whole situation, as he turned back to the human. ''Crying Fields? How comes a battlefield has a name so early on?''
''Many died here a week ago, families, soldiers, and innocents alike,'' the cult leader revealed. ''It's said that after sunset, you can hear the crying echoing across the fields.''
''Alright, what's your name?'' he asked.
The human knelt and answered with a bowed head. ''Jacob, my lord. I have gathered fifty devoted people willing to serve you in this life and the next.''
''Any higher rankers?'' Lilith suddnely asked.
''We've got an A-Rank member, but he's important to the Death Cult, is our brains are to avoid getting caught in Everwest and Darkmoore,'' Jacob revealed.
Dante nodded. ''Okay, I'm going to loot the battlefield of bodies. If you could lead us to others, that would be helpful,'' he replied.
Following that, the three humans led him and Lilith across the battlefield as the Death Ghouls threw the dead soldiers into the Domain, causing a notification to pop up, putting a smirk on his face.
[512,000>600,000 Dead Bodies]
His eyes lit up, and it only continued to skyrocket as the Death Ghouls got to work. They even dumped one hundred Blood Fiend bodies in front of him. Dante pointed his hand at it and whispered. ''Arise.''
Moments later, his death magic poured out like a tidal wave and washed over the dead monsters, bringing them back as Death Fiends. The horde stood up before kneeling in front of him. When the cultists saw this, their eyes bulged, and Jacob dropped to the ground, exclaiming. ''Bless the Death Goddess! The savor walks among us!''
''Shut up!'' Dante snapped. ''Your racket will draw attention to us.''
When the three humans heard this, their heads hit the ground as all three apologized. ''Sorry, my lord!''
He sighed at this before asking. ''I assume there's a hideout? Take us there, I want to rest thanks to bringing the Death Fiends back.''
They quickly agreed as Dante turned to the Death Fiends. ''Go collect bodies for me, bring them into the Domain. It will open up whenever you collect corpses.''
Seconds later, the creatures rushed off into the night, leaving silence in their wake. Lilith giggled and leaned over to whisper. ''How can we trust these humans?''
''The trio reeks of death and clearly worships me,'' he answered when the three humans were ahead of them. ''Didn't you see the way the other two looked at me? Like I was a walking messiah.''
''What will you do?''
''Nothing, use them to create chaos across Dawnfen,'' Dante gave her an evil smirk. ''We can grow it until it's a force in its own right. It would be fun having fanatical believers who will do anything I ask.''
The blonde began laughing at this, but couldn't help but agree. ''Having humans on our side is a good thing. They can be used in many ways, like to get into bigger cities and act like a trade caravan.''
Just then, Jacob turned to him and revealed. ''We stay in a village deep in a forest, it keeps us hidden from all the battles erupting across Dawnfen.''
''Good, what about the other villagers? Are they cultists?''
''Not all but most,'' the older man revealed. ''We're converting them as we speak, but once they witness your power, they'll convert almost instantly, I'm sure of it.''
Dante nodded and fell into silence while sending all the creatures back into the Domain except the Death Fiends, who continued collecting bodies for his growing stockpile as they rushed across Dawnfen. Thanks to the boost his power gave them, they made quick work of the battlefields.
They killed every looter, grave digger, and injured soldiers. Their claws put them down with one swift slash. He could feel the experience pouring into him like a drain, leveling him up as he traveled. Trees loomed ahead, gnarled branches twisting into the sky, cloaked in darkness that seemed to swallow the fading light.
The air grew heavy with the scent of damp earth and decay as the couple trailed their quarry, their steps silent on the cracked stone path. The cultists moved with purpose, their hushed chants barely audible over the rustling leaves. The blonde was intrigued by the humans and their worship of the Death Monarch.
Lilirh could sense the devotion and respect they held for the young man she was traveling with, causing her lips to curl into a smile as she thought. 'Looks like his hate isn't overwhelming anymore; he would've killed them at first.'
Following that, the group continued traveling down the path as Jacob explained. ''Merchants stopped using this road thanks to monster or bandit attacks, but we ran them out using Zombies our Death Mage brought back.''
This caught Dante's attention, prompting him to question. ''What rank is she?''
''The A-Rank I mentioned before, but she'll be useful to you alive,'' Jacob reassured.
''We shall see,'' he replied.
They continued for hours until two people in black robes jumped out of a turning, only to have Jacob call out, devotion laced in his voice. ''Stand down, believers. We bring good news and the Death Monarch has finally arrived to lead us into a new future!''
Dante was shocked once again, and Lilith began laughing as the older man went on, giving a passionate speech on how they all would be given a new life, free of sin and suffering. He listened to all this bullshit, causing him to think. 'I'll just turn them into zombies if they become too much trouble.'
He chuckled at this as the two newcomers knelt, but he put a stop to that; it would soon get annoying if everyone did this. ''Oi, we can't be kneeling every time we run into someone, we'd never get anywhere at this rate.''
Lilith couldn't help but giggle even more, causing him to narrow his eyes at the blonde before slapping her on the ass. A loud smack echoed out making her yelp as she rubbed her behind with wide eyes.
