While Jin was helping the next group of people inside the pocket dimension, nearly done with the second group, the rest of them were watching the news, seeing what was going on in the country right now.
It was horrible. The death toll was massive, and it hadn't even been 24 hours yet. The destruction on the border was the worst it has ever been in history, and the enemy troops advanced inland.
"This is bad." Addison spoke aloud. She couldn't believe that the other countries would go to war over something so simple.
"This is war, everything is bad." Jerrica tapped a holographic button that made the TV screen pop out and appear larger.
"Are we going to do something? Shouldn't we help the people?" While Addison didn't care about the army or Aegis Corps anymore, the reason why she joined it in the first place was to do good. Helping people was something that she would wish to do regardless of whether she was in the Aegis Corps or not.
Lacena shook her head. "That's dangerous. According to Jin, this war was orchestrated by Eve, so this means all of us are targets. We'll lay low for now, build our strength, then attack when we need to."
While she didn't like that plan in the current situation, Addison did understand that this was the only thing they could do. It made her angry and furious, and it also told her that she needed to get stronger so this wouldn't happen again.
"This war, is there an ulterior motive?" Jessa wondered.
"Ouranos and Tartarus wanted Jin, no?"
"They did, but that's it? No, there is another reason for a war of this caliber. It feels like they would have started a war regardless. According to what you all told me, they were already ready to go to war because of that rare metal you all found in space, right? How did they prepare for war so fast?"
Lacena didn't understand. "But that was over six months ago. I'm sure they could have mobilized their troops in six months."
Jessa shook her head. "No, I mean then. No one knew about Jin, and instead of trying to find a way to obtain the...what...Láspinium, they instantly go to war, and the smaller nations agree even though they would be affected negatively?"
Now that Jessa said it that way, they all started to think that there was something else going on.
"And with the Láspi, they threatened war to get a sample of it to study as well, even knowing the dangers." Lacena pointed out.
"We already know two things: Eve is orchestrating this war, and she wants to kill Jin for some reason. But why a war?"
This is when Angela joined in. "Jin told us after coming back that Eve wanted him to suffer, right? She probably has people in all three countries doing her bidding and will use the super weapons each country has to level each other. This is Jin's home, so she may think that he will get upset, right?"
The others agreed that its plausable, but it still didn't answer their question outright.
Just then, Yuria teleported in.
"Oh, Yuria, nice to see you again." Lacena smiled
"Guys, it's bad out there! Like, really bad! The enemy forces have moved inland and have already taken over some of the coastal cities. But that's not all, their Aegis Corps has been mobilized as well!"
"What?! That goes against the rules of war! The Aegis Corps can only be used to defend, not to attack!" Lacena has been around long enough to know that no one would dare go against those rules.
"It's Eve. This confirms that she has people everywhere. She is pulling every single string." Jessa wanted to speed over to that bitch and vibrate her hand through her heart.
"That's not all, though. Every time a person dies, they shrivel up, as if all the fluids in their body instnatly dries, like a grape to a raisin. I brought a body sample." Yuria's powers have gotten better since she received some training from Jin over the past few months.
He held out her arm and teleported a body onto the floor.
"Ew." Angela turned around.
"Interesting." Jerrica kneelt down and examined the corpse. She could still feel the body oils on the skin. In fact, the body still felt hydrated, but to look that way was very odd.
"Did you find anything?" Yuria asked
"The skin is shiverled up, akin to keeping your hand, or even the whole body, submerged in water for a while. But as you said, it's as if their body is devoid of all body fluids, yet their body is still warm."
Nothing they could think of would explain why the body became this way. And to make things more confusing, the body was that of an enemy troop. You could clearly see where they were killed by looking at the bruising around her neck, but the woman was killed not too long ago because the body was still warm.
Just then, the second group came out alongside Jin. He needed to take a break and recover more than normal.
"Hey, Yuria." He wasn't even surprised that she was here.
"Hello, Jin."
When he took a seat, he saw the body on the floor.
"What the fuck?! How do you have a soul-husk?!"
Everyone turned to him.
"A soul-husk?" Yuria asked
"Yeah, it's when the soul of a person is forcefully ripped out of their bodies. The soul is then turned into soul energy and is used to power...well, whatever they want to use it for. I never expected to see one here. You should get rid of it as well."
"Why?"
"Once the soul is forcefully ripped from the body, the lingering traces of their soul want to get it back, so the body becomes a monster and starts going on a rampage until they can find their soul. It's pretty creepy, to be honest."
Yuria turned to Jessa and Jerrica with a grim expression.
"How powerful are these Soul-Husks once they wake up."
"Mmmmmnnnn." It felt so good to relax on a couch. Jin even cracked his back to relieve some pressure.
"Really powerful." He answered. "Physically, at least. They're immune to magical attacks and can only be killed by physical attacks. But you have to chop them up into many pieces. Well, you can use anything that isn't mana, but in the old days, chopping them up into pieces was the way to go. I'm sure laser blasters would work."
"And if there was a whole army of them, what would be the damage toll?"
"Oh, it would be catastrophic. Luckily, there's only one."
Yuria smiled. "About that."
