"What would a sentinel be doing here?" Sandra hoped this would be a quick mission. A simple get in and get out. But a sentinel being here changed everything.
"We need to alert HQ." As Dalis was about to call the Aegis Corps, Jin placed his hand on hers, stopping her.
"Remember what Miss Lockman said? We don't have any eyes or ears here. No support. We're on our own."
"Dammit!"
"Is she dangerous or something?" Roby asked
"Pal, she's a sentinel, the second-highest rank in the Aegis Corps. That alone makes her a serious threat. Not only that, but she's Cadmus Clark, an extremely powerful esper. She falls in the Ascendant Tier of power. And as for her ability, she can manipulate inorganic matter." Jin explained to him.
"Oh. She seems scary."
"Scary is an understatement," Sandra muttered under her breath. She was confident in completing the mission, but now, she was scared as hell.
"We should retreat," Dalis suggested
"And go where? Want to run back to the Aegis Corps? Or did you forget that we flew here on an aircraft?" Truthfully, Jin could fly back to base with his power kit, and he could carry the three of them as well. But he didn't want to do that. He wanted to know what was going on inside that facility.
"Dammit! What do we do then?"
Jin thought about their options. He already had a drone on the inside that was collecting data as they spoke, learning the layout of the facility. He didn't know what the other three could do, but he would try to give them some jobs.
"Okay, so here's what we're going to do." He revealed a map of the entire facility. "This is where we are, and these columns are supporting the structure. We'll place charges here, here, here, and there. But that's only for this facility. The whole base goes inside that mountain. For that, we'll need to place charges all along this corridor here, below the ground here, and in this open room here."
"And what about the deserters?" Dalis asked
"What about them? We're allowed to use deadly force. And since Cadmus is here, we can't take any chances. After we leave the facility, we'll watch the base explode from a safe distance, and anyone who survives, we'll take them out one by one."
"And Cadmus?" Sandra noticed that Jin didn't mention how they'll handle her.
"Let's hope that she's too injured to do anything. For our escape plan, I can fly us out of here with my Power Kit, but I can only go so far. Once we reach a certain distance, we'll radio in for help."
Dalis nodded. "Works for me."
Sandra agreed. "I'm in as well."
"Is it too late now to back out?" Roby asked.
"Yes. Now, let's get to work."
The four of them headed to the area where Roby said they could enter. Turns out it was a garbage chute, one that smelled really bad as well.
"Really, Roby? You couldn't find anything...I don't know...cleaner?" The smell alone made Sandra want to puke.
"Well, it was the only spot I saw."
"He's right." Jin chimed in. "This is the only place we can access the inside of the building from the outside. Other than the front door, of course. If you want, you can knock on it and hope they let you in."
"We'll just go through this trash can," Sandra grumbled.
Before entering, Jin zapped everyone with a very low-powered electrical current that turned off their sense of smell for the time being. Sandra rejoiced, Dalis was impressed, and Roby panicked.
"Let's go." They all entered behind Jin.
Since Jin had the layout of the facility, he was in the front, making sure that nothing weird would be inside a garbage chute, like the hundreds of lasers that were currently in front of them.
"What the hell, man. In a garbage chute? These guys are paranoid!" Sandra couldn't believe these people would add traps to the garbage chute.
"Are they? Look at us. We're proving that having security here is a good thing." Jin said as he worked his skills, shutting off the lasers but making it seem like they were still on to the person inside the security room.
Eventually, after crawling through lots of garbage, they finally made it out of the chute and into the garbage room. Jin did a quick check to see if there were any cameras in the vicinity and scrambled them so they could move seamlessly.
"Okay, everyone, you have your missions. Here are the explosives." Jin tossed them some beads that could be mistaken for jewelry.
"Don't get caught, please."
"Heh, 'caught' is my middle name," Roby said proudly.
"We're fucked."
The four of them moved in different directions, moving stealthily as they placed the charges in the locations marked by Jin. They had a holomap that showed them the layout of the facility, and they were able to move undetected.
Jin purposely gave himself the route that would lead to the filing room where all the records should be kept. Placing his charges along the way, he made his way inside the room, avoiding the soldiers and moving toward the central computer.
"Alright, let's see what was being kept here." He plugged into the computer and started downloading all of the files.
All of the files were protected by encryption and other security measures, but Jin's algorithm broke through them easily without giving off any alarms.
After 2 minutes, he had every file downloaded to his own personal server.
"What the actual fuck? Is this for real?" Jin looked through the files, and what he saw, while it wasn't surprising, was still pretty shocking.
"The Women Evolution Program?" He read. "Shut down 65 years ago when Olympus was announced. This facility lost all of its funding, and the program was shut down. Hmm? What's this? The program kept going on for another 40 years until the scientist behind the research was found and locked up."
The project had only been fully shut down 25 years ago, meaning that some of the people who were experimented on could still be alive today. The youngest of them would be 25, while the oldest of them could be, well, pretty old.
"What the hell? Test Subject 87F - Power, Speedster. Name, Jessa Telegard! Mom?"
