Jin was standing in the crater that was created by his own attacks and the explosion he created, blood dripping onto his body like rain.
Thanks to the augmentations to his suit as well we the nanites in his body, Jin didn't have to worry about people trying to figure out what people would think when they saw him do what he had just done.
He could replicate everything with his power kit.
"This is why I wanted to go home, to a world without abilities. My humanity keeps getting stripped away from me. I just want to retire from this life and live peacefully." He muttered under his breath with a hint of sadness.
"Whoa, what happened here?" Addison landed next to Jin after searching for his house. When she saw that it was destroyed, she panicked slightly, but after seeing Jin standing nearby, she breathed a sigh of relief.
She didn't get a reply from Jin, and he stood in the same spot, looking down at the ground with a sad expression.
"You okay, Jin? If you're sad about your house, don't worry about it. I can pay for the repairs." Addison placed her hand on his back to comfort him, but when he looked at her with his dead, emotionless eyes, she took a step back, fear creeping up her spine, which told her to run.
Upon seeing this, Jin snapped back to his 'former' self. "Hey, sorry. I'm just upset right now."
"Y-Yeah, I can see that. You spooked the shit out of me. You okay?"
He didn't rely right away, but after a deep sigh, he nodded. "Yeah. I will be. I just don't know how to explain this to Auntie Anyssa and Brittany. I always joke about Britt, saying that if she ever stepped foot in the kitchen to cook, the house would explode. And now..."
Jin turned to the destroyed house. "Fuck. Anyway, why are you here? Worried about me?"
"Yes." Addison had no problems admitting that she was worried about him. She still wanted to marry him and was trying to win his affection away from Angela, whom she saw as her love rival.
"That's sweet. But as you can see, I'm fine. I'm going back to my...Well, I don't have a room anymore, so I guess I'll just sit on the curb or something."
"Checking up on you isn't the only reason why I'm here. Do you know that the city is currently under attack?" She asked
"Yeah. Auntie Oculia told me. She was with me when my house exploded."
Addison nodded. "Well, the Aegis Corps is handling the situation as best as they can, and one of the people I apprehended told me that by the time this whole thing is over, you would be dead."
"Pfft! Please. As if. There are only so many people in this world who can actually kill me." Even though Jin wasn't near the level of his previous self, he was still more than strong enough to hold his own against most of the espers in the world.
"I had faith that you wouldn't fall easily. My husband wouldn't be that weak."
"Agreed...Wait, what?"
"Also, I got a call from Mrs Horton, and she asked you to help with this situation."
"Pass." Jin had no interest in working for the Aegis Corps anymore.
"She knew you would say that. Therefore, she wants to hire you as a private investigator. Your task will be to track down the Sons of Adam and either bring them in or, more preferably, kill them."
Now this got Jin's attention. While he had no interest in being a part of their ecosystem anymore, he was always okay with working alongside them since they had a common goal.
He wasn't shortsided enough to completely push them away because of what happened with his mother. After all, the majority of the Aegis Corps had nothing to do with that incident. On top of that, the management was different during that time.
Lastly, his Aunts, Brittany, Addison, and Angela, the five people in the world he cared for the most, worked for the Aegis Corps. Even if he wanted nothing to do with them, his loved ones were still involved with the corporation.
"Alright. But I have three conditions. First, I need to be paid handsomely, no negotiations. I can talk numbers with her in person. Second, I need to have access to their files, network, and all information that is needed to know for the missions I'll be sent on. I'll still hack into their systems anyway. And third, I want a fucking hoverbike."
"A hoverbike? Seriously?" Addison thought he would ask for weapons or maybe have Angela and herself work with him. But he asked for a bike instead.
"What? Hoverbikes are cool as fuck, especially when you ride away from an explosion."
"Heh, cool girls don't look at explosions." Addison chuckled.
'Sure, if you want to say it like that.'
"By the way. Angela wants to see you. She's currently battling some inmates downtown and was going on about how you two would 'go crazy' together, just like in bed. Not gonna lie, that last part stung."
"Wanna fuck?" Jin asked Addison
"Yeah." She responded without embarrassment or any hesitation.
"Okay. Let's go on a date soon. Perferably after this...Is that a fucking car coming our way?" Jin asked as he looked into the sky.
"It looks like it."
"Do you think there's someone in it?"
"Hmm. Judging by the flames coming out of the back of it and the fact that the windshield is smashed, I'd say no."
Jin nodded. "Yeah, I agree. Besides, there are like 5 inmates flying right at us as well."
"True. Think we can take them?" She asked, her hands turning into pure energy.
"Seriously? You're asking me that? Of course, we can. This will be a cake..."
A wave of ice froze everything before it could reach Addison and Jin.
"...Walk. Angela?"
"Jin! Baby! Are you okay?! These bastards didn't hurt you, did they?"
