He didn't manage to reach it, he threw his whip mid fall and wrapped it around a protruding stone. Alaric's body slammed onto rocks on the edge of the valley, pain shot through his shoulder as the whip held his weight.
Alaric looked down at the falling ice bridge and breathed a sigh of relief. That was close, he thought to himself but it was too early to celebrate.
A cracking sound came from above him, he looked up and blood drained from his face.
" No...!"
The rock tore free from the valley wall. Alaric fell down fast, his body started to freeze as the cold air slammed onto his body.
He snapped his whip instinctively towards the many protruding rocks on the wall. The whip caught on a wall , due to the falling momentum his body hit the wall pretty hard causing the already aching shoulder to sustain more damage.
He looked down at the dark endless hole below and above where he couldn't see anything except the white falling snow.
The whip started to slide again, but Alaric was done with trying anything since the walls were just too slippery even for the hooks and he would not be able to climb up .
He decided to brace himself for the inevitable fall. Alaric slammed , shoulder first into a lower ledge as pain exploded in his shoulder and rib cage areas.
He rolled due to the moment heading directly for open air again . This time he could see the approaching ground clearer and he knew if he slammed directly on the floor, his body would not like it.
He snapped the whip towards an L shaped protruding rock and held the whip hard as he slammed onto the wall. He hung there for a while catching his breath through the pain before he started to climb down on his own holding onto the many protruding rocks. He stepped slowly on the ground with his whip still on his bloodied hand.
He smiled faintly at himself looking around him in the dark surroundings. He could see faintly in the dark and the only thing he could see there were rocks and skeletons clearly from falling victims like him. He had really thought fast or he would have been pasted.
He smiled faintly to himself looking up at the now barely visible snow.
"Guess I'm not done yet."
Alaric took out healing patches and put them on his wounds. They were helpful enough to reduce his fatigue and most of his flesh wounds. He didn't come with anything else since he had expected a C class dungeon and he would come out with barely any or no wounds..
After a few minutes of healing and resting, he stood up and started to walk aimlessly forward trying to find any way he could leave. He saw an entrance on the eastern wall, it was small enough for only a person to squeeze in, and headed directly towards it.
He didn't want to continue down a road that seemed to have no end. He walked into the cave for a while looking at the dark walls.
After a while Alaric started to notice something weird about the cave, it was getting hotter the more he walked inside the cold was disappearing.
He removed his torn jacket when he couldn't withstand the heat anymore.
Alaric wondered how this could be possible, the dungeon was an ice and snow dungeon which by logic everything should be cold . But he wasn't about to form his own opinions, dungeons were weird to begin with.
The narrow cave walls widened suddenly and he stepped into what looked like a huge cavern dug under the mountain. He could see the heat waves floating in the air and some smashing onto him.
That was when he noticed the floor was a boiling red and orange moving around, after a closer observation he noticed that the floor was made of lava.
This made him feel like he had entered the mountain's core. The lava was flowing around the room in a clear circular pattern. On the ceiling there was ice that had formed into stalactites dripping droplets of water forming every time the heat wave rose. The water then dropped into the lava created by the steam and the still clearly cold mountain.
He stepped slowly into the cavern the almost too unbearable. He stopped at the edge of the magma and bent down to observe it. He had never seen lava in real life and it was fascinating how his body was even enduring the heat.
It just felt hot but not enough to burn him. An awakened body was really durable.
Then a cold wave hit him out of nowhere as the growl he had heard while on the bridge filled the room. Alaric jumped to his feet whip in hand and looked around vigilantly .
He watched in horror as ice Started to cover the magma and not melting. It moved until he came to a stop at the place he had been. The cavern suddenly became colder.
Then further down from the ice a figure started to form itself. Alaric had seen this process earlier but this time he had a small lingering curiosity as the figure came to life.
He could identify it immediately, it was the boss of the dungeon he was sure of this time. No normal thing can survive in magma while being made of ice unless incredibly strong.
After the giant finished creating itself, ice disappeared into the lava. It was huge bigger than the other brute . It was snow white with blue lines running around its joints.
Unlike the others he had fought, this one had a face. It had huge hollow eyes that glowed blue and a straight line for a mouth. The core was blue and could be seen faintly through the translucent lights on its chest.
The boss started to move towards him ice shards filled with lava inside coming out of the lava around the boss every time it moved.
Alaric swung his whip forward towards the boss feet and locked it around one foot and pulled, but nothing happened the boss continued to move towards him.
Ice formed beneath his feet and wrapped around his ankles as it rapidly grew trying to swallow him from below.
Alaric swung his whip breaking free from the ice and stepped back as he looked at the towering monster that had come to a stop on the lava.
It threw a block of ice filled with molten lava towards him. Alaric dived to the side avoiding the ball. It smashed into the wall exploding. Its explosion was strong enough that it threw Alaric to the edge of the lava almost falling over.
He looked up to see the boss raise its fist aiming for him. He swung his whip towards a wall and launched himself away from the fist.
It hit the ground creating a creator that rapidly filled with magma. Alaric looked at the boss his breath coming out hard, he didn't know how to even start fighting it.
The boss didn't have any weakness he could see on it. The boss threw another molten ice at him. Alaric pushed himself from the wall and jumped onto the ice in the lava.
The ice was surprisingly cold and sturdy, but he didn't stop there He swung his whip towards the boss and hit it this time aiming for its hands.
He hit it on the forearm and managed to chip a big block of ice . Before he could celebrate the chipped forearm regrew .
"Regeneration, shit," he said to himself as he swung the whip again towards the approaching boss.
It wrapped around the boss's hands.
Then something unexpected happened, the whip started to turn white rapidly as it froze. Alaric tried to pull back the whip watching in horror as his only weapon was broken into pieces by the boss before him.
He let go of the broken handle in his hands as blood drained from his face. Since the moment he entered the dungeon, he had not felt fear but now he could feel it bubbling from deep within him.
He was now standing on ice, with no weapon in hand and a dungeon boss that could crush him into pieces.
He met the Boss's eyes before the ice under him moved, he jumped to the nearest piece of land narrowly escaping the ice shards coming from where he had been standing.
Alaric could feel his body trembling as he ran around the room with the boss throwing pieces of ice at him from both sides. He felt as though the boss was toying with him and he could do nothing but think of a better way to escape .
Alaric's eyes roamed around the caven desperately trying to locate anything that might save him or just seemed out of place. Then he saw across the room a sphere was hanging in the air.
It was a mixture of red and white clearly a mixture of fire and ice. He let out a small chuckle as he looked for a way to reach it. As though sensing his gaze, the boss moved and blocked the sphere from his sight.
He understood immediately, the boss was guarding it. That sphere was probably something very important to the dungeon or to the boss itself. From its colors it was probably what kept the balance between ice and fire in the lava filled room.
