Anna was not in a good mood. Not only did she refuse to talk about what information she had gathered yesterday, she also refused to talk to him all together.
She was angry, she was hurt, and rightfully so. She wasn't in the talking mood.
However, contrary to her wishes, the tribe were conducting a large-scale hunt, a hunt which she had to take part with, along with Jimmy.
The food supply was getting low. There were one-hundred and forty people to feed, about two-hundred pounds of meat spent on a daily basis, so food supplies were often depleted fast.
Food rot was also a problem that they haven't figured out yet, so large-scale hunting sessions like this were common. If the huntsmen bagged a big dinosaur, the tribe usually ate more than they could stomach that day, just to prevent food loss.
Anyway, since Anna and Jimmy were part of the tribe, they had to join the hunt, despite the awkward emotions between them. They had to eat, after all.
The experienced huntsmen didn't expect much from them, they didn't even have to fight dinosaurs head on, but as hunters in training, they had to join the hunt. There was no going around this, and about sixteen young men and women have joined them too, as trainees.
In order to assert dominance against the dangers of the land, a total of ninety hunters left the comfort of their home. Their numbers were great, but also seemed unnecessary in hindsight, considering that more than half of the tribe were on the hunt.
Ninety people could obviously overpower most dinosaurs, it was a no-brainer, but their numbers were strategic, and tailored to secure a large kill. It wasn't just a big, unorganized crowd. Their strategies were also tailored to provide instant, large-scale transport for the meat they bagged, so other dinosaurs couldn't get to their kill.
Last but not least, there were powerful members within the team who weren't hunters at all. They were men and women in their thirties, who possessed 'unique magic' as they called it, who were years away from living in isolation like the elders did.
These members were here to protect the hunters from large threats. They were especially responsible for protecting the young men and women who were hunters in training. So yes, their large-scale hunting was air-tight strategic.
Anna picked up on this strategy eventually. She had gathered plenty of information yesterday, by pestering many people, and had heard something about such strategies.
When she saw a few people wearing these beautiful, purple necklaces which made them look different from other tribesmen, she picked up on the hint right away. She was aware of 'unique magic' so she picked up on who those with necklaces were, although she didn't know all of them by name.
While they followed the steel-enforced path, she eventually bumped into Nechi, her biological sister.
Initially she didn't know that Nechi joined the hunt, simply because the hunting session was crowded, so it was difficult to be aware of who joined, but when she did bump into her, things got awkward quickly.
"Sister…" She said, and hugged Anna lightly. "Are you angry at me, sister Anna? I haven't seen you much all morning."
Anna was irritated, and felt a bit embarrassed too, because she had briefly watched Nechi and Jimmy having sex last night, something that she was not proud of, but she was irritated most of all. However, this did not taint her observation skills.
'She's wearing a purple necklace too?' She thought. 'Well, this explains why our parents didn't want to talk about Nechi's magic…but why are her abilities so taboo? What could she possibly be capable of? Gotta be something good, because the people love her. They protect her secrets like the damn FBI, for goodness' sake.'
There was a lot going on in her mind, but she did manage to answer Nechi, and said. "Me, avoid you? You have it backwards. You avoided me yesterday, Nechi, most of the day, at least. Can I assume that you were angry with me as well?"
"As well?" Nechi repeated. "You are angry with me! Why?"
"It's nothing important," She said, refusing to talk about something that she was uncomfortable about. "Leave it."
Despite her jolly behaviour, Nechi was not a clueless woman. She shared blood with Anna, after all, so she could be very analytical and subjective, when she wanted to.
For that matter, Nechi retraced everything that her sister just said, and pressured her, "Wait, last night? Why would you even care what I did with cousin Jimmy? Oh dear, do you like him, is that it?!"
At this point, she was yelling so loud that she grabbed the attention of the people close by. She was not shy at all.
Anna, however, got beyond embarrassed, and tugged her sister's elbow, repeating, "I said, leave it. Please. I don't want to talk about it."
"Nonsense…" Nechi attempted to whisper. "If that's what's been bugging you, then it's great, because the solution is simple! If you like Jimmy so much to the point where you get angry with me for making love with him, then I'd love to share him with you!"
Showing her love and care even further, Nechi tried to reassure her sister, "Really, I don't mind! We can even please him together! Well, maybe a few days from now, because my butt really hurts. We did butt-stuff last night, but I think he loved it more than I did."
"Dear god, please, stop, everyone is hearing what you're saying…" She pleaded quietly.
"Oh…" Nechi giggled, and then at last, whispered. "You wanna keep it hush hush, huh? Okay, shy little lady, we'll keep it a secret if you want. But you can't be angry with me anymore, or else I will make you two fuck even if it's the last thing I do."
"Okay, I'm not mad at you!" She exclaimed, in a whisper. "But please stop talking about him, I'm embarrassed. People shouldn't know what we do in private."
Seeing her sister acting so shy fed Nechi's emotions even further. She wanted to tease her sister for several hours, but she also didn't want to hurt her feelings, so she used every bit of her strength to contain herself.
"I'll make sure that you get home safely, Anna, and then we'll talk about this." Nechi said, and kept her arm around Anna's shoulder.
The walk towards their ideal hunting grounds continued. The group was about two hours away from it, and were hoping to get there, and then back home before sunset.
