Hellbound With The Vampire King

Chapter 52: Her new home

Infront of the grand stairway that led upstairs from the hall, there were about fifty people lined up, with an elderly man who was standing in front of the people.

"Welcome back!" They all announced in unison while bowing.

Eiravyn merely nodded at the welcome, as the old man, standing at the front of the line walked over and bowed deep to Eiravyn.

"Welcome back Your Majesty, as soon as I heard that you were coming with a guest, I cleaned up the guest room on the second floor to accommodate your guest." The old man said, his red eyes glittering with years of knowledge.

"That will not be necessary Valois, she will be staying in the room right next to my room." Eiravyn instructed calmly.

The old man eyes turned wide, instantly shocked, as his eyes shifted to Serena. She subconsciously straightened her shoulders; she noticed that the eyes of a vampire were rather sharp and intimidating. She was still deep in thoughts when she heard the man's voice again, clearly objecting to Eiravyn's words.

"But Your Majesty, that room is reserved for our queen, and it's not to be…" He trailed off, it seemed like he was about to give Eiravyn a long sermon when Eiravyn cut him off.

"That's the more reason she will be staying there." Eiravyn said wryly, making the old man's eyes widen like saucers at the news.

He turned to look at Serena from her head to toe, eyes filled with so much doubt and disbelief, almost like he was hearing a ridiculous tale.

"Your majesty…" The older man paused before he said,

"She's a huma…"

But this time before he could finish his statement Eiravyn rudely interrupted him again,

"That's enough question for the day, so do as you're told, prepare the room closest to mine. Now!" Eiravyn ordered in his king tone, making the old man bob his head up and down, even though he had so many things he wanted to say.

The whole conversation made Serena squirm and feel uncomfortable, as they were talking about her like she was not there. She realized that the people standing in straight line at the hall were all maids and servants who were in charge of keeping the royal house clean.

When she suddenly heard Eiravyn's voice beside her, "That is Valois the butler of this royal house, he's in charge of managing this place and overseeing the staffs." Eiravyn introduced the man to her,

"He had been in charge of this place even before I was born." Eiravyn continued, as she watched as the man eventually turned to bow at her, she noticed that he was not that accepting of her but he still turned to the maids and servants present there and instructed them to pay their respect to her, they all bowed deep in greeting.

"Greetings Your Highness." They announced in unison, Serena did not know what to say to the sudden greeting as she felt she was put on the spot. So, she said the very first thing that came to her mind.

"Greetings to you, too, I'm Serena, hmm… I mean- Serena Kang." Serena said even though she felt nervous with all the stare she was receiving from the maids and servants, her voice still came out firm surprisingly. for that, she was grateful.

Serena was not a naive little girl, she was not one to run from problems or situations.

She had the ability to face her problems head-on, and not take the easy route. And when necessary, she had the ability to take what she want from you with none the wiser. More importantly, she was very good at reading people. Due to her limited options for entertainment, since she mostly kept to herself while in the human realm, only doing things her grandparents told her to do, to not worry them.

So, she had a thing - when she sits and reflects thinking about what happened in the last minutes and thinking about ways to turn the issue around.

Because of this skill, she was already quite wary of Butler Valois because of his reaction. She could tell he did not approve of a human staying in the room meant for their future queen, she was not yet sure of his motive, but she'd have to watch out for him. not that she really wanted to stay there, she would be happy wherever she stays as long as she was okay.

After the introduction, Eiravyn personally led her to the staircase that led upstairs, Serena noticed that the grand stairs unfurled like a white marble waterfalls, veined with diamonds that glimmered like moon light on cold stone. She was still observing the castle when she felt Eiravyn drag her close and hugged her tight with both arms. Serena was surprised by the sudden movement, her knees almost gave out beneath her.

Eiravyn then hoisted her from the ground into his arms, making her exclaim in surprise.

"Ei-ravyn!"

"What do you think you're doing? Put me down! I can walk!"

"Stay still little kitten, I can tell you're exhausted, the stairway is pretty long for you to climb in your state."

Eiravyn stubbornly carried her up the stairs pretending to not hear a word of what she said. Serena felt so embarrassed even though she knew she was exhausted and felt like she could pass out any moment, she still wanted to walk as she could feel the maids and butler staring at her. They were probably thinking she was a spoilt lazy human. 'This is not the kind of first impression she was hoping to create!' Serena exclaimed internally, as she hid her face In Eiravyn's clothes from embarrassment.
