Hellbound With The Vampire King

Chapter 62: Learning more about King Eiravyn (1)

Serena watched him leave the room and wondered what happened that made him so upset. Was everything okay?

She quickly finished the strawberries on her plate. She'd been halfway through her food when a maid walked up to her.

"Shall I bring you more food?" Ember said to her.

"I'm done now, thank you. But I would like to go to my room." Serena respond, as she delicately wiped her mouth with a napkin at her side and rose from the table.

"Okay, you can follow me, I'll take you to your room." Ember told her, leading the way through the halls before heading upstairs.

"Do you think Eiravyn- I mean, His Majesty is going to be fine with the way he left earlier?" Serena asked, her step slow as she walked up the steps to her room.

"You don't have to worry about that. I'm sure it's a guards-related issue."

Serena nodded to this, with Ember leading her upstairs. Ember started to say,

"King Eiravyn lost his parents at a very young age when he was barely sixteen. Even thought it is expected for a vampire to have high IQs, it was still very hard for him as he was forced to take over the kingdom. And then again, there were fight from his mother's side with the people there claiming that he should lead the witch coven now that he had come of age."

At this information, Serena stopped walking and turned to face Ember. "What do you mean by they wanted him to lead the witch coven? I thought he was a vampire."

Ember too paused in her step. "Don't tell me you don't know this much about the history of His Majesty." Ember said, wondering if she had overstepped her boundaries and said something she wasn't supposed to say.

Ember is more than 180 years old, though she looked almost the same age as Serena, that was because she is amongst the pure-blooded vampires, even if her lineage comes from vampires that were destined to serve the king and queen as a servant till they died.

"I don't." Serena confirmed.

"Oh, I hope I have not scared you with my tales." She backtracked.

"Hell no, I would like to hear more."

She had been so curious to hear King Eiravyn's story, and now that someone was taking their time to tell her, she was not willing to let it go. No way in hell. Serena muttered internally.

"Please, let's keep walking. You're currently in the vampire kingdom where even the walls have ears," Ember said, hinting that vampires have sharp hearing, and anyone could hear what she was saying.

Serena was so eager to find out more about Eiravyn's story that she didn't mind the pace they were walking, as they head to her room.

"King Eiravyn's mother is a witch, and not just any witch— she's the former queen of the witch coven while his father was the king of this kingdom…" the woman paused, before she leaned down to Serena's level and whispered in her ear.

"That's to say that King Eiravyn is mixed blood and has the blood of a witch and vampire running through his veins."

Serena listened with her eyes wide opened in shock. No wonder he was so respected while they were in the witch coven—almost like they considered him their king. She had been shocked then. So this was the main reason. That means he must be so powerful to be a vampire and also a wizard.

As this thought came to Serena's mind, and she felt that the people in this kingdom must feel so glad to have a wizard as their king. She was taken aback by surprise when she heard the next words that came out of Ember's lips.

"But sadly, the High-ranking ministers and elders didn't approve of him being their king at first, claiming they could not accept a mixed-blood as their king. There was a great conflict, and the then sixteen-year-old King Eiravyn had to fight it all by himself with no support from anyone—he was left alone to prove himself even when he was still grieving the death of his parents." Ember clicked her teeth loudly as she shook her head.

Serena listened carefully and she felt sorry for Eiravyn. The scary looking king suddenly looked a little bit pitiful in her eyes because she knew very well what it means to lose parents at a young age.

Since she herself grew up on her own, well, she was lucky as she had the support of her grandparents but Eiravyn had no one but himself. Maybe she even had it better because she was able to have her grandparents guide her, while Eiravyn was forced into the limelight. Was that why she had that dream that day and he looked so lonely in his throne? Was that what that dream was trying to tell her—that she should stick close to him? Serena wondered in her mind.

"No need for you to look sad. King Eiravyn prove himself worthy not only to the people that doubted him but to the whole kingdom, and also restored this kingdom to the heights you're seeing today. Thanks to his strong, and committed the defense against the high-ranking ministers who were constantly plotting to tear it down and take the throne away from him. King Eiravyn fought for this kingdom and that's why no other king from any kingdom dares to provoke King Eiravyn even though he is half their age. King Eiravyn will do anything to protect this kingdom." Ember's voice was gripping and her voice was awe-inspiring. She turned to Serena now, her eyes sharp and intense.

"I don't know why King Eiravyn brought you here, but I just want to warn you, this place is not a easy place to survive for a vampire —not to talk of a human. You should know what you're getting yourself into." The woman said, staring Serena down.

Serena was not about to lose a staring contest or whatever the hell was going on, she stared right back at her, her voice firm and unyielding as she said,

"I understand, thanks for telling me this."

Ember continued to look at her for another minute before she finally yielded. "You're welcome and Here we are…" Ember announced in a singing voice while she opened the door to Serena's room for her.

She muttered thanks before walking into her room.

"By the way," Serena called. Before she could close the door.

"When you said they didn't approve of King Eiravyn because he wasn't a pure-blood, how did they suddenly approve of him?"
