CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror

Chapter 120: Cards on the Table

Lucy and Selina took a police car to ride to the families of the deceased. Because it was official duty, Selina had to ride with her instead of using the motorcycle. Selina had parked her motorcycle back at the police station.

"Are you sure you really want to do this, Selina?" Lucy said.

Selina nodded. "I have accepted the mission. I will finish this."

They stopped in front of a house.

"Remember. You cannot touch the people of the families unless they fall or faint. Always use the word 'killed' or 'died' as we want the message to be as clear as possible." Lucy said.

Selina took a deep breath. "Okay."

They got out of the car and approached the house. Mater went with them.

Lucy looked over to the cat. "Should we let it come with us?"

"It's alright, Mater is a big boy."

"I'm a big boy alright." Mater meowed.

Lucy and Selina stood in front of the house.

"Get ready." Lucy pressed the doorbell.

Soon, an old man opened the door.

"How may I help you, Officer?"

Selina took another deep breath.

"It is with great regret that we have to inform you that..."

"No... Please..." The old man stumbled backwards a few steps.

Selina powered through. "Your son, Remy Waverly was killed in action during an investigation."

"No!"

The old man crumbled to the floor and cried his heart out. He screamed. The scream of a father in pain.

Selina squatted down and put her hand around him.

"He died a hero, sir."

The old man continued crying.

They left the porch shortly after.

"You shouldn't do that." Lucy said.

"Do what?" Selina said.

"You shouldn't bear their weight. One or two people might be okay. But it will slowly drain you out. Believe me, I did this many times before."

"If my little gesture can help them feel even a little bit of comfort. I will do it. I know what it's like to wait in the house for someone that would never come back." Selina mumbled.

She, too, was in the same shoes. Her parents never returned.

Lucy sighed deeply but didn't disagree.

They moved on to the next house.

"It is with great regret that we have to inform you that your daughter, Mila Vossen was killed in action during an investigation."

The mother grabbed Selina and shook her head repeatedly. "It can't be true. She told me it would be a short trip. It can't be..."

Then the next house.

"It is with great regret that we have to inform you that your husband, Emmet Glass was killed in action during an investigation."

"Okay." The wife took it extremely well. There was almost no reaction on her face. "Will there be compensation or?"

They left shortly after.

"That is a heartless woman." Selina scoffed.

"It's obvious that she no longer loves him." Lucy shrugged.

They moved to the next house.

A mother and a child came to the door.

"How may we help you, Officer?" The mother said.

"It is best if I tell you this alone, Miss."

The mother nodded and pushed the young son inside. "Go play with the touch pad, son."

Then Selina said her piece. "It is with great regret that we have to inform you that your husband, Tully Sallow was killed in action during an investigation."

The mother clenched her fist tight. Her face wrinkled into an ugly shape as she bit her lip to the point of bloody.

She stumbled around and almost fell down but Selina caught her. Selina's eyes, too, welled with tears.

"What am I going to do now? Jimmy needs his father. I need my husband."

Selina silently hugged the wife and let her grieve.

They went on and on with more houses. Selina returned the Ankh Badges to each of the family. The Badges were only a piece of decoration now and lost all of its function, but it was still the last thing of the deceased.

Lucy could feel the negative emotions build up inside Selina. Her Psycho Force became more and more unstable. But at the same time, she became more and more powerful. A pressure that even Lucy felt a little bit afraid of.

The sun went down and Lucy parked at an empty street. She looked back at Selina.

"I think that should be it for today. You should take some time off. Your Psycho Force is filling up." Lucy said.

Selina breathed heavily. Psycho Force was very different from Mater's Chaos Circuit. Psycho Force, or the Psychic's Chaos Singularity, could produce Chaos by absorbing negative emotions, both from the user and everyone around them.

Psychics could generate Chaos way faster than Warlock. But in exchange, they were also much easier to go crazy. Very similar to witches in Mater's former world.

Mater also looked down to NES. He didn't think NES was a good variation of Chaos. Instead, Psychics should only treat NES as a source to convert it to Chaos.

And that was exactly what Mater was going to teach Selina at that moment.

The black cat climbed on Selina's lap. He put his soft paw on her chest.

His deep voice echoed, "Breathe. Channel your Psycho Force along with my power. Turn them into pure energy."

"That cat?!" Lucy widened her eyes.

Selina closed her eyes and did as Mater instructed. The invisible NES slowly got converted into Chaos and was stored inside her Chaos Singularity. Her emotions calmed down and the pressure around her dissipated.

"That cat just stabilized her Psycho Force?!" Lucy muttered.

Aurora appeared at the side of the police car and aimed a revolver at Lucy's temple.

"Move to the other seat." Aurora said.

Lucy's hands jerked a little bit. Aurora fired the gun to the other window, causing it to crack into several pieces. The fire burned a side of Lucy's hair and made her ear ring non-stop.

"I said. Move to the other seat."

Lucy nodded and did as she was told.

Aurora got in the car and slammed the car door close.

"It is not wise to attack a police officer."

"And it is not wise to spy on me, Lucy." Selina finished converting her Chaos. She opened her eyes and said.

"So you knew..." Lucy forced a smile.

"I thought we were friends, Lucy. Why did you let them attack me?" Selina said.

Lucy's hands trembled. She bit her lips then said, "I didn't know they wanted to kill you. I swear."

"Doesn't make any difference now, does it?" Selina said coldly.

Lucy sighed. "You're right. So... Are you going to kill me now?"

"Not yet. We're going to teach that bastard who attacked me a lesson."

"I won't tell you anything."

"You don't need to. We already know where he is." Selina smiled wickedly.
