CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror

Chapter 63: The Ghost

Selina still had twelve Iron Bounties left that she could do and receive all of their rewards.

The first one for the day was a house in the suburban area of Aeliz City. Surprisingly enough, it was not abandoned. Instead, there was a family living there.

They reported all kinds of noises and bizarre situations in the night. Sometimes they heard the tap water running in the kitchen in the middle of the night. But when they came to check, there was no one at all in the room.

The family even checked the cameras and security alarm but they didn't detect anything at all.

The tap was one thing. Sometimes the doors to their room even opened randomly.

They heard howling and crying in the night, which scared the hell out of that family. If they had the credits, they would have moved out of that house. But they didn't have the condition to do that. That suburban house also once belonged to their grandparents. The family just didn't want to abandon it.

Selina, Aurora, and Mater arrived in front of the house. The cat jumped onto Selina's shoulder. Aurora was just too cold to sit on. All cats hate the cold.

Selina came in front of the door and knocked.

"Hello? Is everyone inside? I'm with the ACPD! We come to investigate the commotion you have been reporting these last few days." Selina shouted.

"ACPD?! Coming! Coming! Please wait!" A feminine voice answered from behind the door.

A few minutes later, a middle-aged woman came out while still wearing an apron. She seemed to be in the middle of something.

"You really come to investigate! No one believed us when we said our house is haunted." The woman said.

"Hello. You must be Mrs. Davis? I am Selina Isles, an investigator working with the ACPD." Selina showed the woman the Ankh Badge.

"Hello, Miss Isles. Yes, I am Sophia Davis. Would you like to come in?"

"Of course."

The trio entered the supposed haunted house. Selina talked with Sophia for a while to see what she knew about the wraith. Basically, the wraith was only bothering them from time to time and there was no sign of actual hostility.

"I will go check it out. Tell Selina to keep that woman here." Mater meowed.

Aurora nodded and whispered to Selina.

"So… Mrs. Davis. Can you tell more about the history of this house?"

"Of course. Oh, your cat is wandering away."

"Don't worry, Mrs. Davis. It is a very intelligent cat. I'm sure it will return soon."

"Okay. About this house. My grandfather bought this house after the war…"

Mater wandered around the haunted house. His eyes flashed red as he scanned for any potential sign of a wraith. There was Chaos here but not that much. The Chaos wasn't that malevolent either. It was only negative and had a lot of sorrow inside.

Mater quickly spotted a line of Chaos leading to the master bedroom on the second floor. The cat jumped onto the railing and followed it upward. Mater pushed the door of the master bedroom but was unable to open it.

"Darn it. Why do you even lock the door when you're the only one in the house?" Mater meowed.

He looked around and spotted an open window in the upper floor bathroom. The black cat climbed out of it and then found its way to the master bedroom window. He successfully climbed inside.

In the corner of the room, was a humanoid wraith curling up into a fetus position. It was a woman and she was crying non-stop.

This was simply a ghost, not a wraith yet. But she was on her way to becoming one if she kept feeding on her negative emotions and absorbing Chaos.

The black cat approached and poked her. "Hey, dumbass. You should go to the afterlife."

The woman stopped crying and looked at the cat. "You can see me?"

"Yeah. And can you understand me?"

"Surprisingly, yes. What even are you?"

"I am an angel of death and I come to take you to the afterlife."

The woman crawled away. "Please don't. Please! I don't want to disappear."

"Who told you that going to the afterlife means disappearing?" Mater rolled his eyes.

"It doesn't?"

"Of course it doesn't. Going to the afterlife means moving on. You will be reincarnated into someone else and forget everything in this life." Mater said.

Actually, the black cat didn't know if that was the truth. The afterlife was a topic that the delusional Monks of his old world researched about the most. That was their theory about what would happen. Mater didn't really care about the afterlife or how it operated but he thought that it would be the perfect explanation for this ghost at the moment.

"How do you know this?" The woman said.

"I told you. I am an angel of death."

"Please. I might be dead but I am not stupid."

"Look out of that window."

Mater shot a Nether Sphere outside. It screeched through the air. That ghost, even for all of its entire long life and death, had never seen something like that. It froze in place and dropped its jaw.

"What was that?!"

"That was a sphere of nether. The power of the underworld. Now if you do not move on to the afterlife. I will disintegrate you with that sphere. That means dead dead. No moving on. No reincarnation."

"But… But… I don't want to go! Can't I just stay here?"

"This is the world of the living. There are rules that must not be broken. As an angel of death, I have to see you move on. Or else, I must kill you. Your choice." Mater bullshited all the way through.

The ghost bit its lips then said. "Okay… But can I go visit my husband one last time."

"Of course. Follow me."

Mater led the ghost down to the living room where Selina and the rest were. Selina almost got a heart attack when she saw the ghost. Sophia on the other hand couldn't see her.

Aurora quickly explained the situation with Selina.

"Miss Davis. It seems like your house was the target of a prank. It is a group of mischievous teenagers in the neighborhood. They like to scare ordinary folks and cause trouble."

"How? My cameras and alarms didn't detect anything."

"Hacking, Mrs. Davis. Kids these days are extremely good with computers. However, you have nothing to worry about. We already identified those kids and will reprimand them accordingly. You can rest assured that you will not be bothered anymore.

If you do, just give the ACPD a call and we will come to check again."

"If you say so." Mrs. Davis scratched her head. She thought for sure that her house was haunted. The way Selina 'solved' the case was extremely weird. But Sophia didn't think much. If her house was disturbed again, she would just phone the police.

Selina, Aurora, and Mater led the ghost out of the house and into the city graveyard. The place where her husband lied.
