CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror

Chapter 73: The Crypt

"Ah ha ha. Actually, his passing was rather out of nowhere. We haven't got time to find a good place for him yet." Selina thought of an excuse.

"Okay…" Pastor Jeff definitely sensed something weird about everything but he didn't voice his concern.

"Do you want to look at the map of the graveyard? We can continue our discussion in my office and look at it." Pastor Jeff said.

"Of course."

The three of them and Aurora walked into Jeff's office. Aurora's invisible antlers hit the top of the door frame, creating a noise.

Pastor Jeff looked back but didn't see anything. Selina acted like she accidentally hit the door frame to cover it up.

When Pastor Jeff turned his back, Aurora quickly ducked down to get inside the office. Her antlers were invisible but they were still there.

"Alright. Here is the map. The empty plots have numbers on them. And here is the list of all the plots with their designated price range."

Pastor Jeff gave Selina a notebook with the graveyard plots and a large map including all the available plots.

Selina almost fainted when she saw the price range.

"Minimum 50,000 credits?!" She stumbled backwards as Aurora caught her.

Pastor Jeff nodded. "Unfortunately graveyard plots in Aeliz City are in very high demand. 50,000 credits is only for the common one. If you want a better or premium one, the price can go up to around 100,000 credits."

Selina wiped her forehead. She never knew dying could be this expensive.

Mater meowed and told Aurora something.

The wight turned to Pastor Jeff and said, "if we want to build a crypt for our brother, how much would that be, Pastor?"

"A crypt? That is very expensive. Depending on how you want to build a crypt. Above or below ground. Then there is also the construction fee, the permit fee, also the care fee so that the graveyard takes care of the crypt for you.

That can range anywhere from another 50,000 to 100,000 credits."

"Welp. We can't buy a place officially now." Mater meowed. Back in his old world, you just found an empty plot and dug a grave. It was much simpler than here.

"Is there any way to decrease these costs, Pastor?" Selina asked.

"Of course. If your brother has contributed to the city, we can lower the price. If he's a veteran, government employee, or some other profession, the government can also pay the fee for the land for you.

Unfortunately, building a crypt doesn't have any way to lower the cost though. That is a choice from the family and is usually decided by the construction company."

Pastor Jeff explained slowly.

"Just find an excuse to get out of here, Aurora. We can't build an Abyssal Shrine this way." Mater meowed.

"Thank you for your time, Pastor. We will talk it out with our family before deciding." Aurora said.

"Anytime, Miss Isles." Pastor Jeff nodded.

Aurora grabbed Selina's wrist and pulled her outside. They stood at her motorcycle.

"Well, what do we do now?" Selina said.

The black cat stroked its whiskers in deep thought.

"We don't really need to buy a plot. We can just use an abandoned one." Mater meowed.

"What do you mean?" Selina said.

The three of them got on the motorcycle and rode to the cemetery.

Mater summoned Crow out of the book and commanded him to sneak into the gravekeeper's lodge and steal their records.

Crow seeped under the ground and went inside the lodge via the crevice under the front door.

The gravekeeper was a middle-aged woman around her forties. She was enjoying her tea and watching TV when Crow sneaked inside.

He went over to her and got into her office. The Abomination rose from the ground. His shadowy body looked exactly like what people thought ghosts would be.

He went over the gravekeeper's records and soon found what Mater wanted. A notebook of all the separated crypts and which one had the most visitors.

Crow pocketed the notebook and climbed over the window, returning to Mater's group.

"What exactly are we doing, Mr. Mater?" Selina whispered. She looked around to ensure no one would hear them.

"Finding a crypt that no one visits to build an Abyssal Shrine for Crow." Mater meowed. His paw flipped over the pages of the notebook.

"Isn't that… I don't know. A bit wrong." Selina whispered.

The black cat shrugged. "Nothing wrong with it. Usually the souls of these people would have moved on to the afterlife already. If you feel guilty about it, we can tell Crow to look after the crypt from time to time."

"I think that would be best."

Soon, Mater had found the perfect crypt. A crypt for a veteran called Aaron Cage. His family hadn't visited him for almost twenty years.

The black cat pulled out Selina's phone from her pocket and checked Aaron Cage's details. He hacked into the ACPD system for the most amount of information.

"Huh?! This is…" The black cat meowed softly.

The profile of Aaron Cage showed up. He wasn't just a veteran. He was a Platinum Bounty Hunter. A rank higher than the known Gold Hunter on the Bounty Hunting Site.

Selina widened her eyes when she saw Cage's profile. "Platinum Hunter?! There is a Platinum Rank?"

Every hunter knew there were Iron, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. No one had heard of Platinum before. But Cage was one of them.

"Do we really need to pick him?" Selina said.

"We are building a Shrine for Crow to regain his power. The more power he has the more we can deal with the wraith. If Cage was here, I'm sure he'll agree." The black cat meowed.

In the end, they picked Aaron Cage as their target. Crow returned the book to the gravekeeper's lodge. The group then sneaked into the crypt of Aaron Cage.

Aaron Cage's crypt was built underground. There was a stone mausoleum above ground that served as an entrance.

Mater used his claw to pick open the lock and went inside.

"Alright. Let's build the Abyssal Shrine for Crow."

The group went underground where a stone coffin laid motionless in the middle of the room.

Mater's Master Signet flew out of his paw and landed on the other side of the room, between the altar and the coffin.

Crow turned back to his Abomination Form. His dark skin and white eyes contrasted in the darkness of the crypt. He sat down on top of the Signet.

Aeliz City encountered another large-scale phenomenon.
