Chapter 130: Ch 130: First Exchange in the War

FMC Ch 130

The next day as Elena was relaxing and was reading a book while having some tea, she suddenly heard a loud noise of someone banging on her door. When she permitted that person to enter the room, Saradina came inside her room.

It was evident that she had just woken up from her sleep. Even tho she was still dressed in her military garb, it looked like she dressed up in a hurry. Seeing her panicking a bit Elena calmly asked -

"Has the empire already started attacking ?"

Seeing Elena being so tranquil Saradina also calmed down and replied -

"Yes, just early this morning about three thousand soldiers suddenly attacked the outer walls of the city. All of them were black bull beastkin and they used the darkness of the night to get close to the walls and prepared to ambush our soldiers when they went out for a routine check up of the vicinity.

But after we implemented the improved surveillance method we were able to detect them in advance and so we managed to save many soldiers' lives."

"Umm, that's good that they were able to defect this ambush but why were you so flustered if the sneak attack was unsuccessful ?"

"That's because we had no information about this black bull legion at all. And as I was in charge of collecting information about the members of the opposite army, I got a bit flustered. Sorry for the embarrassing display."

"Nevermind that. I guess you're here to invite me to another military meeting, right ?"

Saradina nodded her head and Elena sweetly smiled at her and said -

"Then what are we waiting for ? Let's go."

...

This time the atmosphere in the meeting room was very oppressive. In the battle that happened early this morning, even tho the Myrilia Kingdom army were able to lessen their losses, they still lost 18 soldiers in this battle and the number of people who were badly injured were over 500. It make Sandy's mood to become very bad so he was constantly releasing a oppressive aura.

He loved all his soldiers like brothers in arm. That was also one of the reason why his relationship with the soldiers was so good. So suddenly losing 18 brothers and seeing over 500 of his brothers getting injured, it was very saddening for him.

Only after Saradina entered the meeting room with Elena and took her place close to him did Sandy's mood improved a little bit. He was still upset but he was finally able to look away from the last to the future. He was also the first one to speak up -

"Michel, give everyone a short summary of what happened early this morning."

"Yes sir."

Michel was one of the soldiers who participated in attacking the ambushing soldiers and he was a part of it from the very beginning. So he had seen the whole process in perfect details. He was also a quick witted fellow so he was able to describe the whole situation very clearly by only using the minimum amount of words.

Hearing how the mages and the scouts who were in charge of surveillance at night were easily deceived and the mages were only able to detect them because one of the black bull beastkin made a mistake while using their innate ability, chilled them.

If Elena didn't created the new system where at least 5 mages were taking up the role of surveillance at all time and others were taking break or doing other works then this ambush would have been a great success for the enemy and they would have lost close to five thousand soldiers. And it was not their mages' capability that detected the ambush but a mistake from the enemy was the reason.

A gloomy atmosphere was dominating the meeting room after knowing about the ambush in more details. But that whole despairing atmosphere suddenly disappeared when Elena spoke up -

"Very well done. All of you did very well to always stay alert and to properly take the initiative to attack the enemies back. The mages, the soldiers and the one in charge, everyone did a praise worthy job. Very Good."

Those words of praise wipped away the bad mindstate of Michel in an instance. He felt proud for both himself and his colleagues. Elena was a S rank adventurer with an impressive reputation as the "Crimson Adjudicator", she was also the former headmistress of the royal academy so a word of praise from her had immeasurable value.

...

As the atmosphere of the place finally returned from being tensed and depressing to being calm, the meeting finally started to discuss the main agenda. And that agenda was how to retaliate against the Gaim Empire.

Most of the people present including the Major General himself were in favour of attacking head on. Only the other three generals and Saradina wanted to take a wait and she approach and wanted to observe the enemy a bit more before attacking. That was obviously not because they were cowards but because they didn't want to let anymore of their soldiers to die in vain.

Only Elena didn't give any opinion on this matter. Finding it strange Saradina asked her about her opinion.

"It does not matter what you choose. As I said before, I will definitely help with as much as needed. To me it does not matter what you choose as both of the options are too easy for me."

This was an arrogant declaration but no one doubted her at all. She was a S rank adventurer and could actually end this war all on her own. So all the participants of the meeting became a bit relaxed. With a great support like Elena on their side they just needed to try their absolute best.

So finally all of them came into a united decision to attack the Gaim Empire head on. They didn't want to be known as pushovers. Even Saradina and the three generals who were against it also supported this decision this time. So finally they all agreed to do a decisive attack on the Galai fortress of the Gaim Empire to take revenge.

...

On the other hand, Hapis was listening about the ambush operation. He was very unhappy with the result. In this operation he planned for at least one thousand humans to die and probably a lot more. But the reality was cruel. The number of dead people didn't even reach three digits let alone four. Actually the number was an underwhelming 18.

Yes, after the grand plan he hatched and he even used a legendary talisman to increase the innate ability of the black bull beastkins, the result was very disappointing.

He even lost 31 of his rare black bulls who were a secret army of his forces. This ambush was a failure. The losses on his side were larger and he even alerted the human about the existence of his secret army. It was almost 100% assured that they would become more cautious when dealing with him in the future.

But he could not just waste his time thinking about the past. The operation was already done and now he just had to focus more on the future plans. The plan that minister Wepwewet created was coming along well. It was only a single step away from success. And if that plan could be realised their chances of victory would be very high.

Hapis took out a ball shaped magic tool specially used for super long distance communication. As soon as the music item was activated a screen appeared before him. On the other side of the screen a figure of a man with wings and a face of a hawk was visible. That was the Beast Overlord Horas.

Hapis told Horus about how the ambush plan was a failure. But Horas didn't look too sad. He had already thought about this plan failing and had several countermeasures in place. He told Hapis to just focus on the next plan and didn't worry about this failure much. And after a few more exchanges they ended the communication.

After the communication was over Hapis heaved a sigh of relief. He was quite frustrated about this failure as it was the first even step that he took against the Myrilia kingdom, so it failing was not a good omen. But now after talking with Horas for a bit he was feeling less frustrated.

He took out a paper which outlined the next set of plans that would be used in the future. On the paper a map could be seen depicting a outline of the border city of Jysis. It was a very detailed map and it was impossible for anyone to get this if that person did not hold an important position in the army and the city itself.

What this mean was self evident and that was definitely not a good sign for the Myrilia Kingdom and the city of Jysis.
