Restart: The World Savior's New Beginning

Chapter 154: Ch 154: A Mission in the Slums

After three days, Elena finally returned to the capital city of Nyanthella. But she was not going to stay here for long, as the distinct divine realm was not located here. After returning to The capital, Elena took two days off. She used those two days to complete her tour of the capital where she visited every nook and cranny of it.

She even took Lisa with her for the first day but on the second day Lisa requested Elena to allow her to visit the library again as this was going to be their last day in the capital. After getting the inheritance diary, Lisa had become even more passionate about books, Elena was also amazed by Lisa's luck as she did not manipulate anything to give her that book. It was actually her own fate to get that inheritance. She did not stop her from going to the library as there was no downside to it.

The first day's tour was quite peaceful where both Elena and Lisa enjoyed the famous tourist spots and the eating places of the capital. But on the second day, Elena wanted to visit the poorer past of the city, so she went to the slums.

At the outer parameter of the capital Nyanthella, there existed a large slum area. The society of the beastkins had the motto of "might make right" so the weak had a very low standing in the society. Bloodline was also a very important part. If an individual was from a large beastkin clan then it was fine, but if one did not have the support of a strong race behind them, then it would make them easy targets for anyone from big races or clans.

Not all beastkins had high potential for growth so many of them were also barely making a living at the bottom of the society. That sort of people were the residents of the slum. The main city of Nyanthella was beautiful or majestic but it was also expensive to live at. Most could not afford a decent living here due to the lack of money. So they all had to live in the slums where the expenses were minimal.

The Beast Emperor had only taken the minimum needed steps to ensure that the slum area was bringing any bad influence to the main city. Other than that they had not taken any steps to maintain the order of this area. For that reason, slums were without a doubt the most lawless place in the whole capital.

Stealing, killing and rape was a very common thing here. The outlaws were the true rulers of the slums. The main authority had no interest at those bottom tier places so the criminals had thrived here.

Elena was currently wearing a brown hood and cloak to completely hide herself and was walking through the slum area. This suspicious outfit might look odd in the main city but in the slums it was a common sight.

The atmosphere of the slum was very bad to say the least. Most of the areas were dirty and smelly and the people living here were the same. This was a country for beastkins so the people who were living here were also beastkins. So the body odor they were releasing was many times worse than the human. So this slum was way more smelly than other slums.

But Elena didn't mind it too much as she was kinda used to this sort of area and atmosphere. When she was fighting to save the world, there were many times when she had to hide in such slums. That was the main reason why she became so used to it.

All around her, Elena could see many malnourished beastkins lying around. There were beggars at the side of the street looking pitiful. But when a child also tried to beg those same beggars suddenly became ruthless and beat that child up as he was violating their area.

Not everyone living in the slums was poor. There were many criminal lining in the slums who were quite rich. Some merchants who specialised in illegal businesses had also opened their shops here. So even tho the slums had a bad and depressing atmosphere, it was still a very bustling place.

Elena had done some information gathering so she knew that there were 3 overlord gangs in the slum area. They were the ones who made the decisions here and had the highest authority. Elena actually came here to investigate those three overlord gangs.

So, after healing the beaten up child and secretly cursing the beggars with a nightmare curse she went straight to a building which was the secret hideout of one of the gang called the "Red Leaves Gang". The child himself was astonished to find all his injuries healed and he also had a large silver coin in his hand.

...

The red leaves gang had the highest amount of members among all the other overlord gangs. They were all the ones who control almost 60 percent of the shops present here, so they did have quite a bit of authority here.

Elena had actually come here for some serious business. She saw that Lisa was quite taken in with the books and she would need two or three more days if she wanted to read the books of the library to her heart's content.

She could just tell Leonhart that she wanted to go to the village of Norhada a few days later but she did not want to postpone someone's plan so heartlessly. That was not her style. So she decided to give Leonhart a reason to stay in the capital for a few more days and to create that reason she came to the slums.

Elena had found out with her abilities that Horas, who managed to run away from Leonhart was hiding in the slums. She wanted to give some hints of Horas' presence to Leonhart which would definitely make him postpone the journey for a bit on his own accord. This hint would also be helpful to Leonhart so it was killing two birds with one stone.

She knocked on the doors of the red leaves gang hideout. A brawny looking dog beastkin opened the door and gave her a scrutinizing gaze. Currently Elena was using an illusion magic spell to make herself look like a foxkin and quite a good looking one at that.

Elena actually could just make herself look ugly but she had no special reason to do so so she just went with her heart's desire to design her looks. After seeing Elena's beautiful beastly face, the dogkin gave her a nasty but still less hostile look and asked why she was here.

Elena told him that she was a low ranking adventurer who recently got injured and needed to buy a somewhat expensive potion to heal herself. So she wanted to borrow some money from the red leaves gang.

The red leaves gang was the most prosperous one among all three gangs so the dogkin named Hocks did not become suspicious of her at all.

He asked how much money she wanted to borrow and in answer Elena told 2 million R. This answer was very unexpected for him and he almost lost his mind. Hocks thought that at most the foxkin before him would want a few tens of thousands of money. He was a leader tier member of the gang and he would not have any problem giving her that much money as a loan. Then he could just give her a high interest rate and could ask her to pay with her body. It was a perfect plan.

But the amount of money that this foxkin wanted to borrow was too much. Only the boss had the authority to approve such a big loan. But a loan like that could not be given to just anyone. One had to have the ability to return the money back with interest or they would not be able to borrow such a large amount of money. And he very much suspected if this poor looking foxkin had that ability.

Just as he was going to say that and was going to reject her, the foxkin suddenly took out a weird looking figure which gave off the aura of a magic item. She then hurriedly said -

"This is a life saving magic item that I have. It should cost more than 2 million R to buy. But I don't want to sell this item that could save my life and that is the reason I'm borrowing the money. So if I really can't return the money I will just give this item up. So please let me meet with boss Lin."

Hocks had a good understanding of a magic item and he was quite sure that this magic item was a valuable one. It should at least cost 2 million if not more. So after some inner hesitation he finally decided to take this foxkin to their boss.

"Okay, come with me. By the way, I'm Hocks, a leader of the Red Leaves Gang. What is your name ?"

"I'm Inari. Nice to meet you."
