Chapter 410: Ch 410: Sea Adventure

The harbour of the Koula city was truly a majestic sight.  There were over a hundred docks and several hundreds of ships on the harbour. Most of the ships were mercantile vessel ships but there were some ships built for fighting here and there too. The merchant ships needed the protection of these fight capable ships to stay safe on the sea.

The sea area around the city did not have many monsters or dangerous marine life but the sea route was long and danger could be found in most of the areas. So having a strong fight capable of escorting them was essential for the merchants. The pirates were also a problem.

This gave birth to a special type of mercenary who were very good at handling ships and mostly worked on the sea. The management of the city also gave many benefits to these mercenaries as the defence petrol needed their help to keep the ships of mid and low value safe. They were also given access to superior ship building formula of the city to strengthen their ships. That way the sea mercenaries represented a force of considerable power in this city.

...

The harbour was also filled with people. Not only dwarves but also people from other races. It was not like dwarves were the only race living here but inside the city Elena and Tomoe were not able to see many people from a different race. But that was not the case in the harbour.

Elves were not the only race that were seen in the harbour. There were also people from demon and vampire races which were very rare to see. But they were able to see them here mostly because there were ships on the harbour that came from those continents and the people working on those ships were also from the native races.

Elena and Tomoe both had never seen people from these races beforehand so they took a second look at them. Tomoe was surprised to see how different people from the demon race looked to other races and how the vampire races looked just like a regular human with just a paler complexion and red eyes.

Tomoe asked Elena how the Vampires here were able to stay under the sun. Even though the current time was not midday, the sun was still up in the sky shining brightly. Tomoe had read in a book that Vampires were unable to stay in the sun for long because of their racial weakness. Most vampires would even die if they stayed in the sun for a few minutes. The only vampires who were able to stay alive in the sun were the rare variant called Daywalker and very powerful high ranking pure blooded vampire nobles.

Daywalkers were very rare and pure blooded vampire nobles had very high authority and they would not be coming to a city like this easily. So the vampires working on the ships were definitely regular vampires who should be affected by the sunlight but that was not happening which made Tomoe bewildered.

Elena knew the reason and started to explain this to Tomoe. The vampires were one of the most advanced races of this world and they had obviously tried to get rid of the biggest weakness of their race. Obviously it was impossible to completely get rid of it but they did manage to find a way to make the disadvantages to be minimal.

The vampires got blessings from their racial god and made a few items that could temporarily give them resistance to sunlight. This blessing could only be activated for a few hours but even that was very useful for the vampires and they were able to leave the confines of their continent.

Because of the blessing of the vampire goddess, the area where the vampires lived were always shrouded in darkness. So for common vampires, sunlight was not really something to worry about. Only the Vampires who wanted to go to different places needed to worry about that.

Elena explained all that to Tomoe which made her even more surprised. Now she was surprised because it was truly astonishing to hear that a high god had given blessing to be used in this way and even common vampires were able to use it. Elena clarified the situation to Tomoe by letting her know that the goddess did not bless the items one by one. She just gave an item filled with her blessing one time and the Vampires then used that to create other items with just a little bit of that blessing inside it. So it was not hard work at all.

Elena remembered the lazy looking red haired girl who looked very idle from an onlookers perspective but was actually quite a hardworking goddess. Her name was Myra and she was a member of Elena's fan club.

...

Elena and Tomoe were just strolling around the harbour while discussing all this when a tall demon called out to them. This demon had the head of a bull and there was a pair of wings behind his back. This person was a demon from the Minotorous race.

The demons of this species looked almost the same as a bull beastkin except for the wing part. The wings were a signature aspect of a demon and most of the times one would be able to differentiate a demon from other races based on that. The demons were most varied among the races and quite a few demon species looked very similar to other races. Especially there were many similarities between beastkins and demons when it came to looks.

Elena stopped her idle thoughts and asked the man if he had something to discuss with them. This Minotorous introduced himself as Collence the leader of a group of ships that came here to import some dwarvian items to several cities of the demon continent. But they were facing some problems regarding those items and only a S ranker would be able to help them in this situation.

When Elena and Tomoe had entered the city, they did not hide their identity as S rank powerhouses. That obviously had made the person who was checking them to be astonished but he was a skilled person and did not announce their identity to the whole world. So currently only him, the guard captain and a few other high officials should know about their rank.

Elena asked Collence about it and he told her that the city itself was responsible for losing those items and were actually trying to find a S ranker to help them. But that might take some time so Collence was advised to negotiate with Elena and to ask for her help.

Elena had no real need to immediately reject this request so she decided to learn more about it and asked Collence for details..
