After getting out of the dangerous Lammrok forest, Elena and Tomoe went to the sea to take care of the second mission. For this mission, they needed to defeat a S rank monster that had suddenly appeared close to the coast. Elena and Tomoe did not take a boat as it would only hinder them in a fight. As according to the record, this monster was not too far away from the coastal area, Tomoe and Elena would easily be able to reach that place by flying.
Even though Tomoe was able to fly after reaching the S ranks, she still had not mastered it very well. First of all, she was very eager to learn new things related to sword but for anything else, she was less than enthusiastic. That was the reason why she still had not mastered the flying magic completely. But still it would not be a problem for her to go for short flights.
Elena simply started to float in the air while a violet bird-like wings made of lightning appeared on Tomoe's back. Then she took off to the sky with great speed. Elena followed behind her closely. It did not take them long to reach their targeted location with their speed. But the place where the quest had mentioned the monster to be, there was nothing.
Tomoe used her presence sensing skill but found nothing again. She even went inside the ocean to see if the monster was hiding in the depths of the ocean but again, she was able to found nothing. This really made her to wonder where the large monster went to. Seeing no other way, Elena finally used her own detection magic and immediately found it. Currently this monster was way too far away from this location and was actually attacking a ship. So Elena immediately told Tomoe about it and then they quickly flew toward it.
The monster that they needed to defeat looked like a giant blackish translucent blob. So it was very difficult to notice it in the black waters of the vampire continent. Currently it was showing off its full size of almost 20 meters while attacking two ships. Fortunately those ships were not regular ships but battle ships, so they were not destroyed immediately.
Elena and Tomoe stopped over the sea and asked if they needed help. Normally helping them would have been fine if the ships were in more trouble but from what Elena and Tomoe were able to see, these ships were doing relatively well while facing off against a powerful S rank monster.
Hearing them some of the people who were on the deck looked up and were very surprised. There were quite a few types of magics and skills that allowed someone to fly but all of them were very energy consuming. So seeing how easily these two people were able to fly, they must be S rankers.
Immediately after realising that, one person who looked like the leader spoke up and requested for their help. Soon after that Tomoe flew toward the monster with great speed with her sword in hand. As for Elena she decided to just support Tomoe with her spells from a distance.
...
This monster turned out to be extremely troublesome. It was not very powerful in attacking or dealing damage but it's ability to stay alive was off the charts. These ships were able to hold out against the monsters attacks but they had not managed to deal any significant damage to it at all.
First of all, this monster had extreme resistance to physical attack. Most attacks below the S rank would be completely nullified and even S rank attacks would be weakened by 70 to 80 percent after hitting it. As for the magic attack, it was effective but only a certain few elements were. Fire and lightning elements did extra damage but the water element actually helped it in regaining health.
In the water, the fire element was already weakened greatly so this was definitely an advantageous position for this monster. Lightning was quite a rare element so it actually got a bit unlucky with Tomoe's presence here. But even when it was badly injured, that would not be the end for this troublesome monster.
It had the ability to self regenerate and water helped it in boosting the speed of self regeneration. So in the sea, it was able to regenerate at extreme speed. Tomoe had a very hard time killing it and finally she was forced to go all out and output her maximum lightning powers and slashed it in such a speed that before it could regenerate, Tomoe had already destroyed more of its body. So finally it was unable to hold on anymore and it evaporated with Tomoe constantly striking it again and again.
It was definitely a tough fight for Tomoe and she had even burnt her skin a little bit after outputting more lightning than what her body was able to safely endure. Good thing that Elena was able to heal her perfectly. Then both of them went to the ship to ask how they came across this monster and why it was so far away from its usual location.
Hearing the question the captain of the ship was very embarrassed but he did not hide the truth and told them. He was the leader of an up and coming sea explorer team and with their high quality ship, he was very confident that they were among the best in the city. Sea explorers were like adventurers but instead of depending on their own powers, they mostly used ships and their knowledge about ship controlling to complete various missions related to the sea.
This mission to defeat the new monster was not given to the sea explorer guild because currently there was no explorer group capable of fighting a S rank monster in the city. That was the reason why this mission was handed over to the adventurer guild. Actually ships capable of fighting against S rank were very very rare. So Sea explorers of the S rank were rarer than S rank adventurers.
This young man did not like that their work was given to the adventurers so he went out to prove that he and his ships were capable of taking care of a S rank monster. But unfortunately he had underestimated the power of the S ranker and was unable to hurt the monster at all. But its attacks were dealing more and more damage to the ship and it would not be able to withstand it for a long time.
So he did order the ships to run away but this monster was too angry to let them be. So it chased after them continuously and this crew was in a lot of trouble. If Elena and Tomoe had not helped them then they would not have been able to last for anything more than an hour.
Hearing their story Elena advised them to not be so reckless next time and returned back to the city after telling them to be safe. Now there was only one more mission for them to complete.
