The material that Elena and Tomoe needed to gather were not that rare. They were readily available in huge numbers not too far away from the city. Other than this particular material, there were other materials needed for this medicine which were way more rare. But the craftsman was rich and he had managed to gather everything else by spending a whole lot of money.
But the material he had requested for Elena and Tomoe to gather was extremely hard to get for vampires. That was because this grew on top of a mountain called Jousia mountain. This mountain was a little special for one reason.
Because of several unique factors gathering together in this mountain, any vampires approaching it would feel extremely terrible.
It was not like the lives of the vampires would be in danger but if any vampire approached this mountain, they would start to feel extremely uncomfortable.
The longer a vampire stayed here and the closer they went to the top of the mountain, this discomfort would continue increasing. So for any vampires, even for powerful ones, staying here longer than a few minutes was just unbearable.
If there were any vampires in the city who needed a lot of money would probably have gone to the mountaintop while trying to get over the disgusting feeling. But almost all the vampires of this city were decently well off, so none of them were desperate enough to go through this torture.
But as Elena and Tomoe were not vampires, they would not be affected by the mountain at all. So this was a very simple job for them. That was the reason why both Elena and Tomoe had not asked for any monetary compensation and instead just asked the craftsman to work hard on their commission.
...
This mountain was not located too far away from the city. So just after 5 minutes of leaving the city, Elena and Tomoe were able to reach the base of the mountain. As most of the monsters of the vampire continent were very similar to vampires, they would also feel uncomfortable coming close to this mountain. So this area had absolutely no monsters.
For that reason, Elena and Tomoe did not find any threat on their way and were able to gather the needed material without any problem. It was so easy that Tomoe was actually disappointed.
But this disappointment of hers did not last long as Elena discovered a hidden cave entrance, at the top of the mountain. Immediately both of them entered it and started exploring this place. Tomoe had found it suspicious that this insignificant mountain had such a powerful effect but no one was worrying about it.
If a mountain appeared close to Tomoe's village which no elves were capable of exploring, Tomoe was sure that her whole village would try to find everything about it. So she found it curious that no one in the city was thinking too much about it.
After going deeper into the cave, Tomoe finally came across as a wide area filled to the brim with various magical items. Elena then started telling her about the effect of these items and it turned out that all of them were items which could make vampires uncomfortable. One single item alone was not that bad but when all of these items affected someone all at once, that would be terrible.
So it turned out that the effect of this mountain was not natural and instead was artificial. After looking around this area, Elena and Tomoe were also able to find a notice targeting toward people like them who had managed to reach this area.
From that notice, they came to know about the truth of this location. This location was actually a sight that was hiding a few important stuff regarding the nearby city. The ruler of the city already knew about it so obviously he did not need to worry about it. An enemy organisation was trying to steal these things from him so he was hiding it here.
Obviously this case had more stories attached to it and there definitely was a reason why the mayor chose to hide those important things here instead of keeping them safe near him. But this was not something Elena and Tomoe needed to worry about so they just left the cave satisfied after knowing about the truth.
...
Returning back to the city, Elena and Tomoe gave the craftsman the material and he thanked them a lot. He also knew that for someone who was not a vampire, this was definitely a very easy job. But as this city did not have any other people from a race other than vampires, Elena and Tomoe were his only option.
The craftsman told them that he would be done making the items that Elena and Tomoe had requested by the next day, so Elena and Tomoe needed to stay in the city for an extra day. As they were not in any real hurry, they were fine with it.
After Elena and Tomoe came out of this craftsman's house, a soldier approached them and asked they to come with him as the ruler of the city wanted to meet with them. Elena and Tomoe were expecting this as the ruler of the city would definitely know that Elena and Tomoe had climbed the special mountain. And the soldier who came to invite them was also very polite, so Elena and Tomoe did not complain at all and just followed behind him.
...
The lord of this city was a young looking vampire. He looked like a 12 or 13 year old little boy. But the cunning glint in his eyes was enough to let everyone know that he was definitely not as young as he looked.
He introduced himself as Miskef and started to have small talk with Elena and Tomoe. He was quite interested about the culture of other races and he became extremely excited when a topic about this came up.
Just like that, he beat around the bush quite a beat so Elena got a beat irritated with it. At first it was fine to not bring up the main topic immediately but even after quite some time, the man was still trying to instigate Elena or Tomoe to bring up the topic about the mountain.
Seeing the slight look of irritation on both Elena and Tomoe's face, Miskef became nervous and started to apologise. He was perceptive enough to understand which was a good time to stop and that was a good thing.
After that he honestly started to tell Elena and Tomoe about the main reason why he asked them to come here and the real reason behind the creation of this special mountain.
So, what was that reason ?
