"Master, there's danger!" Nephis's loud voice tore through Arthur's dreams, causing them to disperse like smoke as he found himself back in the real world.
The moment he appeared he felt a sense of danger, and without any hesitation he rolled to the side.
Bang!
A resounding bang echoed as the bed Arthur had been sleeping on exploded with a violent blast.
Arthur had been moving on pure instinct, but the moment the bed exploded his mind seemed to explode as well. His thoughts became clear instantly, any traces of sleepiness vanishing.
He glanced around with an alert expression only for his face to twist in shock.
Around him were dense clusters of black shadow-like ghost figures.
They looked similar to the ones they encountered previously in Jaell State but this time they were far more numerous.
'Unholy fuck!' Arthur cursed aloud as he realised a swarm of them was gathering around them.
He glanced around, his face filled with caution as the shadows that had tried to kill him in his sleep gathered once more and began moving in his direction.
Titan was engrossed in a deadly battle and a terrifying fight was going on in his location.
This time Titan… wasn't holding back.
It seemed Titan was truly furious that they dared threaten the young master and without hesitation he began attacking with even more ferocity than before.
Lightning and fire crackled around him and a few segments of the house were already set on fire, with lightning crackling on the metals and destroying other bits and pieces of furniture.
Space around Titan cracked constantly due to his fury.
Titan swung his sword to the right, causing the space to crack once more, and more than fifty shadows were destroyed, but more just kept pouring out.
'This… can't continue like this.' Arthur's mind raced as he brandished his sword immediately, his hand moving as swift as lightning.
His movements were even more agile and swift than before due to the increased stats he had obtained from Nephis and Titan combined, along with the free attributes he had gotten recently.
He slashed his sword repeatedly, causing the air to ripple slightly as flames curled around him.
However the shadows were truly too numerous this time, and for every one Arthur sliced apart and burnt, two or three replaced it.
Arthur was speechless as the ferocity and speed of his attacks increased drastically while he struggled to fight despite the dense clusters of shadows.
On Nephis's side things weren't any easier, as she was completely encircled by the shadows and Arthur couldn't even glimpse her figure.
He only knew she was there because he could vaguely sense her.
From the distance he could also hear the sounds of fighting, and he understood the danger didn't just apply to them. The others were also engrossed in their own battles.
Arthur glanced around and after a moment of hesitation his eyes glinted with resolve.
Four objects appeared in his hand as he tossed them toward Titan and Nephis.
"Here. Use this!" Arthur shouted towards the two of them.
Stretching out his large left hand, Titan paused his attack and caught the two objects. His hand was big enough to hold both so he wasn't too worried.
Meanwhile Nephis appeared silently like a slithering ghost, caught the other two with both hands, and vanished into the shadows.
Arthur's eyes glinted in anger as he said to both calamities:
"Use the potions and… enter calamity mode!"
Arthur could feel that the shadows this time came with a clear intent to kill, so he wasn't willing to take any chances.
Hearing his words, Titan's golden eyes flickered a little before dimming into pitch black.
Streaks of black lightning crackled to life as he smashed both potions on his body.
Instantly the system flashed with a line of golden words.
[Congratulations, your summon has activated calamity mode, increasing his strength drastically.]
[Please note that consuming both potions has reduced the negative side effects of the calamity mode drastically.]
The black lightning crackling to life around Titan's body streaked like snakes, instantly killing more than a hundred shadows and sending the swarm into a frenzy.
The remaining shadows seemed frozen in fear as they watched Titan vanish from his location.
Titan no longer appeared physically, but occasionally a streak of black lightning would flash by, claiming the lives of more than a hundred shadows at a time.
Gradually the countless shadows began vanishing at a speed visible to the naked eye, astounding even Arthur.
On Nephis's side, the sight wasn't any different.
Surrounded, Nephis consumed both potions, and the next moment a line of words appeared in front of Arthur's line of sight.
[Congratulations, your third summon has activated the calamity state.]
[Please note that consuming both potions has reduced the negative side effects of the calamity mode drastically.]
Arthur watched in stupefaction as the shadows clustered densely, and he felt even Nephis would have a hard time scaling past them.
Just then, a thunderous whooshing sound rang out as more than ten daggers flew up into the ceiling.
In a single attack, Nephis had killed more than a hundred shadows, clearing enough space for her to materialize.
She held a dagger in her hand, looked at it briefly, then threw it toward a shadow.
The dagger vanished and in the next instant was already lodged in the shadow's neck.
Instantly Nephis appeared at the location as she waved her hand and sent ten more daggers flying out.
Arthur was unable to keep up with her movements as she sent the daggers in different directions, astounding him.
He saw her appear at four locations simultaneously, leaving him completely speechless.
'Their calamity mode truly is something else.' Arthur was impressed and felt the pressure on them lessen considerably.
He turned his attention back to the shadows surrounding him and immediately made his move with his sword.
The blade moved at lightning speed, and with Titan and Nephis backing him up he finally gained the upper hand in the battle against the shadows.
The rest of the battle was easier, with Titan massacring everything in his path like a god of destruction.
Meanwhile, like a goddess of death, Nephis reaped the lives of the shadows, draining them at an alarming rate until they were done with all of them.
During the battle the house had long since been destroyed. And finally, after eliminating all the hundreds of shadows, Arthur glanced at Aella and Jason who were collapsed on the ground, panting heavily with exhausted expressions on their faces.
Seeing Arthur without much tiredness on his face, Jason was exasperated and his heart burned with jealousy.
However, upon noticing Nephis and Titan behind Arthur stepping forward, all traces of jealousy vanished from his heart, replaced by shock and terror.
'This dreadful presence… as though it's destined to bring destruction to the world. What is it? What is this feeling???'
His mind screamed internally as he stared at them dumbfounded.
Titan and Nephis were crackling with the dark energy of calamity and radiated an intense bloodlust that made everyone instinctively feel a chill run down their spines.
Except Arthur, the heir of calamity.
Both Aella and Jason stared at Nephis and Titan in a daze, their presence extremely suffocating.
"It seems he is dead. They were most likely here for him," Arthur said solemnly, causing the crowd to turn their attention to him.
Tracing his line of sight, they noticed the shriveled up corpse of Rodrick on the ground.
