Magus: Rise of the Darkness Empress

Chapter 52: Ch 52: Suspicion

"Master Richard, we just got a news from the city guards. Bloody Ghost Karl has returned back to the city."

"It was about time for him to make his return. I hope that after this slaughter, his control over his own self will be loose enough for me to take over."

"Karl had returned back to his house after entering the city and it looks like he is not planning to come over and greet master. That is very disrespectful."

"There is no need to mind such minor things. Karl has always been like this. As long as he can benefit my organisation, I am fine with him doing whatever he wants."

Saying this, Richard again started to check out the letters that he had received from various individuals. Most of these letters were from influential people, so Richard needed to read them thoroughly and write back an appropriate response.

But the aid who was reporting to him was still not done. Even though he saw that Richard looked busy, he still continued speaking.

"Master Richard. There is one peculiar thing that I learnt about Karl. Unlike all the previous times, this time he had brought back new subordinates with him. Not just one but two subordinates."

Hearing this new report, Richard stopped reading the letter in his hands and looked up toward the ceiling. This was definitely not something that someone like Karl would normally do.

"How strong are the people who came with him ?"

"Both of them were low level apprentice knights according to the guard who had received them. So they are not weaklings but they are not very strong either."

Hearing this Richard again fell into deep thoughts. Karl for him was an important pawn on whom he wanted to have more control. So he needed to make sure that there was nothing wrong with him.

"Investigate those two subordinates and give me a report as soon as possible. Also send someone to keep an eye on Karl's house."

After hearing the order, the aid was about to leave in order to fulfill them but Richard stopped him again.

"Tell the person keeping an eye on his house to not look at Karl directly. He has a very strong perception so he might be able to find someone's presence just by getting looked at."

The aid nodded his head after hearing this and finally left. And Richard also returned back to checking the letters.

Even though he took some precautions, the state in which Karl was when he has seen him last time, there was no way for Karl to recover his regular sanity. So he was actually not very worried about this situation.

...

The next morning, after waking up, Karl went to meet with Weiss immediately. Starting his day by seeing the face of his mistress was a good luck charm for him.

Weiss had already woken up and was writing something on her notebook. As Karl entered the room, before he could greet her, she handed him the notebook.

As Karl opened it and started reading, he became surprised for a moment. Then an understanding look appeared in his eyes.

Even when she was sleeping, as soon as the watchdogs had started keeping an eye on Karl's house, Weiss had noticed them immediately. Her senses as a mid level knight was not a joke.

After that, Weiss had started to investigate the people who were responsible for being the watchdogs and had found a total of seven men.

Among them, six were staying away from the house and were very careful in making sure that Karl could not detect them.

As for the last person, he was taking a lot of risk by staying very close to the house and after observing him in secret for some time, Weiss found out that this man had an extraordinarily strong sense of hearing and he was using that to eavesdrop on the conversation happening in the house.

After reading this in the notebook, Karl also quickly wrote something on it. He was aware of the identity of the person who had this extraordinary hearing power.

That man was a valuable direct subordinate of Richard and if he was here to investigate Karl, then Richard was definitely very suspicious of him already.

This was not a good situation and Karl was getting worried. But Weiss reassured him that everything was fine. Then she wrote something in the notebook that made Karl to completely calm down.

"Even if this Richard person found out that you've betrayed the Night Crow, that will also be fine. Even in the worst case scenario, we can just fight them head on and defeat them.

And if we are not strong enough to do that, then we have the option or just run away and hide in the Souran territory until we can become strong enough."

Karl did not really understand complicated plans very well but this kind of straight forward plans were something that he really liked.

So for the time being, Karl and Weiss decided to converse as if Weiss was truly a servant that Karl had picked up on a whim.

And Karl had to start acting like a murderous brute even in his house. He was not happy about this but decided to do what he needed to do for the success of the plan.

...

After some time Karl left his house to go and meet with Richard. At that same time, Weiss also left the house while completely hiding her presence from the watchdogs. That was a very simple thing for her.

Only Terry stayed in the house and was given the duty of doing some housework to make other to believe that the servants were truly working hard inside.

Weiss had already coached Karl about what he should and should not say, so now she could only believe in him to not mess up.

As for her, because this was a very important city, Weiss had a lot of investigations to do.

And her first location to start the investigation would be the "Seven Heroes Conclave". This organisation was very interesting and Weiss felt that if any place in the Brightshine kingdom could provide her with any information about a magus, then it must be this mysterious and super powerful place.

...

While Weiss was going toward a tavern run by the Seven Heroes Conclave, Karl had already reached the main base of the Night Crow.

From the outside it was a like a very large shop selling many different kinds of things at the same place but most of the rooms in this big buildings were not shops but places for the members of the Night Crow to gather and train.

Karl did not enter the shop from the main gates. As he was always giving off murderous aura, Richard had told him to use the back door in order to not scare the regular customers.

So Karl entered the building using the back door and met a man named Ural immediately. This man was an aid to Richard and he for some reason hated Karl very much. So Karl was obviously not happy to see him.

So after seeing Ural, Karl immediately targetted him with his killing intent. This made Ural to shake for a few seconds in fear but he still managed to compose himself after some time.

Then giving a fake cough, he said -

"Mister Karl, welcome. Master Richard is waiting for you inside his office. Please follow me."

Now it was finally time to see if Karl could complete his mission properly or not.
