Magus: Rise of the Darkness Empress

Chapter 56: Ch 56: Targeting the Earth Overturning Great Monster

As Weiss returned back to Karl's house, she found that most of the people keeping eye on it were gone. So she had an even easier time sneaking back inside the house.

That watchdog with very sharp ears was also gone. So now it was fine for Weiss and Karl and speak normally. Weiss was glad about that. Always communicating in writing was very tiring.

After she came in, she found Karl taking a rest on the living room of the house. He looked a little tired but he did not look unhappy. So Weiss guessed that everything was fine in his side.

As Weiss's foot steps were heard, Karl looked at her and immediately jumped up from the couch. Then he came before her with an expression that was screaming "praise me, praise me".

In this situation, Karl looked nothing like a scary murderous knight but he resembled a friendly family dog more. So after seeing him Weiss almost unconsciously gave a few pats on his head.

Karl's eyes immediately lit up by this and he started to excitedly tell Weiss about his meeting with Richard. He left nothing out and gave Weiss a very long explanation.

From how Richard behaved, it looked like he was not very suspicious of Karl anymore. His withdrawal of the watchdogs also indicated that.

But still, Weiss was unwilling to be careless. There was a slight possibility that it was an elaborate plan of Richard who had a reputation of being intelligent. So Weiss told Karl to still be cautious for the time being.

Then Weiss entered the room where she was staying and locked the door. She now had a very important task. And that task was to read all the things that she had gotten from the Seven Heroes Conclave.

So she was going to continuously read the books and documents for the time being. There were a lot to read and Weiss at least wanted to briefly understand the current situation of this city and learn about the ancient families located in this kingdom before the day was over.

...

The city of Ryco was home to quite a few dark organisations but among them only four were considered to be at the peak. They were the Night Crow, the Ashen Harbingers of Pale Moon, Scarlet Knight Circle, and the Starlight Order.

All these organisations had more then 5 official knights and the support of various nobles at their backs. They were also in charge of handling a vast majority of valuable materials that were collected from the special forest and the mountain.

The Seven Heroes Conclave was not in the list because they were not considered to be a dark organisation. Even though they technically currently only had two official knights as true members,. They had more than a dozens of knights working for them as mercenaries.

Not just that but the current undisputed strongest man of the city was one of the two official knight rank true members of the Seven Heroes Conclave. This man named Hati was a high level knight which was extremely rare.

According to the information, currently Ashen Harbinger of Pale Moon and the Starlight order were in the middle of a fight because of a new mining location found in the mountains.

The other organisations were also looking for a way to join the conflict and benefit from it somehow. Weiss also decided to learn a bit more about this conflict to see if there was something she could gain from it.

But this news was not the most important one in Weiss's eyes about the city. Instead she was more interested in another information related to the count Falgur.

Currently the count was gathering a team of Knights to hunt down an Earth Overturning Great monster. Weiss had read about this kind of monsters and they were known to be a heavenly treasure for any knight.

But even the current Weiss was not capable of hunting this monster alone. Even the weakest among the Earth Overturning Great monsters were as strong as a high level knights. Some of the old ones of this species were even only defeatable by a Grand Knight.

But still Weiss was very interested in getting her hands on the materials of this monster. So she immediately started to think of a way to join the count's team in hunting this beast.

The count definitely had some connections with the Night Crow. So there was a possibility that Karl might get a chance to join this expedition. As for her, Weiss could just follow the team from the shadows.

But she could not just depend on her luck that Karl might be invited. So she decided to visit the Seven Heroes Conclave again to see if the count had asked their help in this matter or not.

Even if Weiss could not get her hands on the whole Earth Overturning Great monster, just getting a few parts from it would be very helpful to her. So this was going to be the next thing that Weiss was going to give her full attention to.

...

Reading about all the news of the city did not take Weiss much time. But reading about the ancient families was definitely going to be more time consuming.

And this time, Weiss needed to read more carefully in order to analyse the information throughly and to find out which of this families could have some connection with a magus.

First she started to read about the ancient families that were located inside the Brightshine kingdom. There were actually not many such families as most of the noble bloods had risen up not too long ago.

Actually the Souran family could be considered to be an ancient family. They were ruling over the current Souran territory even before the founding of the Brightshine kingdom.

Weiss was actually able to find the name of the Souran family in one of the documents. That was very suprising and seeing this her confidence in the information network of the Seven Heroes Conclave increased even more.

There was not much information that was mentioned about the Souran family because even though they were ancient, they were extremely weak and did not have much importance.

There were four other ancient families who were also in a similar condition to the Souran family. Their bloodline was still not destroyed but their past glory was completely gone.

Even though that was the case, Weiss still remembered all their names. There was possibility that one of these families was also created by a failed magus like Jonus Souran and in that case, that magus might have left behind something more useful.

As for the ancient families with influence, there were only three. And Weiss started to read about them next very seriously.
