Chapter 61: Pain In The Ass

"Oh! I just remembered I said I won't be treating that topic this class." Derp exclaimed.

The class groaned in protest but Derp ignored them. The illusion over the class warped into a peaceful landscape with various races of humans here and there.

He spoke about how there were different races and languages on their world before the Great War and how they all had their unique culture and personal landmass.

'This is just like earth's history.' Xenon thought to himself as he listened to Derp's explanation.

"You can learn more about this in your second year." Derp said after explaining lightly. "Now, where were we. The Great War?"

Everyone nodded eagerly, wanting him to continue.

"Yeah, that happened and it was brutal. Fast forward to the end of the Great War-" Derp was interrupted by protesting groans.

"I can't tell you everything at once, and, the period is almost over. Shall I continue?" The class reluctantly agreed.

"So yeah, after the Great war, everything everywhere was in disarray all at once. We lost more than 70% of our population, and with that our history and various cultures.

"Some races went extinct outright and we that survived were left to pick up the pieces. Half of our world was plunged into darkness and the surviving humans were forced to retreat to Pritulok and Ishe.

"The Prasedymums were reduced to one family after the war as they played a very large part. They withdrew to Wartorn island and cut themselves off from the world, till recently.

"Ruach was the spirits natural habitat, we couldn't reside there. The last of those that resided originally on Pritulok and Ishe moved to Ishe to make space for others and the Oguns, the last of the black skinned race made Pritulok their stronghold and accommodated as many people as possible.

"Shortly after the war, the royal and educational system were created. How and why they were created and why Vasileia and Askesis were picked for to house the royal family and academy respectively will be discussed at a later date.

"Also, the story of Semones – the demi human continent – and Ursprung and Idanileko – the other two academies in the world – in Ishe and Pritulok respectively are topics for the future.

"So, the summary of everything I've said in respect to the assignment I gave to you is?" Derp asked the class.

"There were at least five continents in the world, but the Great War made us retreat to Pritulok and Ishe, Ruach was always here and Semones was created later on." Someone answered.

"I think we've deviated away from the true reason thus class was held, but yes, that's more or less the summary." Derp said. "Class dismissed." He ordered and went to sit behind his desk to browse through the submitted assignments.

And no sooner had the students gone out of the class that the bell for break rung.

"What's all that stuff about the spirit and the stranger professor Derp was talking about?" Jason asked Xenon as they walked aimlessly through the academy grounds.

"I am curious as well." Jacquez walked up on them from behind and announced his curiosity.

"Why are you following us?" Xenon asked Jacquez.

"What do you mean? I am just sticking with you guys because we have the same schedule throughout the day." Jacquez replied with an easy smile.

"Like you did yesterday?" Jason asked sarcastically.

"I am as clueless as everyone on what the professor said, so could you leave us alone now Jacquez." Xenon said.

"Yeah, go do some runework or something. You know what? Maybe you should create a drune that can stalk us on your behalf, that way you can stop pretending to be friendly." Jason advised.

"I didn't realise I was being a pain in your asses." Jacquez said and turned around, walking in another direction.

"I'm hungry." Xenon said to Jason.

"Well that's a first, I thought I was the only normal person in this trio... I mean duo." Jason replied.

"You're acting like he's dead, he is just avoiding us for now, he will come around eventually. And I actually eat a lot, you guys don't just notice, being fast means food digest faster." Xenon said.

"By the way, have you found someone to teach you how to swim?" Jason asked.

"No, I have not."

"Why don't you go to that senior, the one we met outside Hwita's dormitory." Jason suggested.

"Steve? Uh, how could I forget about him. I'll go look for him later, let's go see Jeage." Xenon shrugged

"And, why is a bandage wrapped around your head?" Jason asked and moved his hand towards Xenon's head.

"Stop!" Xenon drew his head back in alarm. "See, the thing is..."

"...none of you got all nine of the metaphysical abilities right." It was towards the end of TSEUCAEE's period and Copious was addressing the assignment he gave last week.

"The correct nine are; Time, Soul, Space, Mind, Reality, Beast, Creation, Spirit, and Nature. These nine stretch out into numerous pathways and no living being has managed to grasp even a tenth of one of them.

"It is rumoured than when your ousia reaches the eighth and final stage, you will awaken one of these abilities, but it hasn't been proven yet as the only one alive to have reached that stage is the proprietor.

"The magnitude of these nine abilities of the metaphysical category is basically boundless so many covet them, that's why with every generation since the Great war there are always those who tries to push past the boundary and achieve the last stage of ousia development.

"But only one has survived to this day, and it is quite disappointing that he prefers to sleep all day than put the next generation on the right path. I mean, why did he create the academy in the first place?" Copious lamented.

"This is the end of today's lesson. Next class each of my numerous selves will attend to each of you as we go through your abilities."

"Ah, finally! I can go get some sleep now!" Jason yawned as he and Xenon left the last class for the day.

The sun was moving closer to the horizon and would be setting in a few hours. Xenon and Jason walked casually across the grounds as the had no need to be in a hurry for anything.

"You survived yesterday, you might not be so lucky today." Jason said to Xenon when he stared at the sea as they were passing by the beach.

"I'm not going today. I'm not into dying either." Xenon replied.

They went over to the infirmary to pick up the discharged Jeage and escort him to his dormitory. Jeage narrated to the duo how he was traumatised the previous night.

Apparently, miss Felicity had made a guy grab onto his legs tightly, and two others each of his arms as she swung the runesaw violently around, threatening to cut him up violently.

"I was knocked out later on, and when I woke up I had no limbs. I screamed and freaked out for about an hour before I realised it was just an illusion and all my body parts were intact. That woman is evil!" Jeage narrated and made sure to look behind him before making the last remark.

"Goodnight Jeage." Xenon said. He and Jason had been allowed into Puretanic's castle – because of the special circumstance – and were in Jeage's room.

"Yeah, bye." Jason waved and they exited his room and the castle.

"Let's go eat something before we part ways for the day." Xenon said as they walked back to Erythros' tower.

"Now that's something I understand." Jason replied enthusiastically.

They encountered Aoi in the cafeteria but decided not to bother him. They had a short chat with Juan about the history class they had earlier and Xenon had a readymade foul expression that he gave whenever Juan deviated or try to ask a question about the Prasedymums.

Soon enough it was a new day and everyone was trying to not be late to the first class of the day. Xenon had to carry Jason to class as they were almost late and he had to use his ability to get there on time.

"Nice to see you all here this good morning." Professor Yadok started. "Now I hope you all read chapter one as I instructed last week," the class mumbled an incoherent answer. "Perfect, everyone bring out your textbooks." Yadok instructed.

"Now before we begin today's class, Mr. Jacquez Pascal, do you care to explain what the meaning of what you did in the combat class was?" Yadok asked.

"I was just trying to encourage people to not drop the class." Jacquez replied.

"I appreciate the thought, but please don't do that rubbish again. I am very much pleased with how my subject is dropped every year. I'd rather not have you add to my workload, are we clear?"

"Yes, sir." Jacquez sighed in defeat, he had been warned this would happen by his seniors.

"Now, let today's exercise begin." Yadok dipped his hands into a bucket of powdered chalk. He took out a chunk of the powder, threw it into the air and clapped his hands together.

The powdered chalk which had scattered came back together and formed a set of runes. Various runes carved into the classroom glowed and suddenly the seats into the class all separated into single seats with the space of a metre being in between each seat.

The students textbooks all vanished and were replaced with three sheets of paper bound together – for each student.

"You may begin the test. Your time starts now!" Yadok announced to a dumbfounded classroom.
