Regressed With A Copy System: Breaking the Loop

Chapter 36: The Siren and The Regressor

Nolan got yanked into one of the holes and a hand slammed the wall, pinning him in place, dagger to his throat.

"Don't. Move."

Nolan finally processed what had just happened and he saw the person's face.

It was a young lady, black hair tied back in a ponytail with a mask covering her mouth and nose.

Her brows suddenly shut up as she felt something. A cold tingling sensation on her throat, and when she looked down, she saw Nolan's ice dagger there.

When she looked back at him, he tilted his head, still expressionless. "Let's both not try anything stupid, right?"

"Wow. My my, of course. You're the ever ready type, huh?" she said, her tone soft and calm. She withdrew her dagger, though still pinning him in place, and pulled down her mask

Before Nolan could say anything, she pressed against finger to her lips and shushed him.

"...well indeed they have. Three of the new recruits even died."

The voice from earlier came in, and Nolan peeped behind the lady. There was the all so obvious tendency of getting caught, which he knew was inevitable, except if a miracle was to happen, and secondly, he wanted to see the face of the person.

"You must make sure to keep an eye on him though. He has been altering a lot," said a deeper voice.

Nolan's mind immediately told him they were talking about him.

The owners of the voices finally came in sight, but both of them were hooded, wearing cloaks. However, Nolan spotted the trousers of one of them. It was the same dark-blue as the guild's.

That was all he saw before the low-grades passed, obstructing his view of them. The demons passed both men like they weren't seeing humans at all.

Much to his surprise, they weren't spotted at all. Not by the men, nor the demons. A miracle it was.

In reality, when both men were walking, one of them looked slightly to the hole where they were. But, to him it was just a wall. There was no hole there at all.

As they passed the hole, the hooded turned around and looked at the place again. He could feel a subtle energy come from that place, and moreover, he had been here countlessly and he was most certain that there was a hole there.

"Is there an issue?" asked the one with Cerulean Guardians uniform.

"Hmm, no," replied the first man with a deeper voice. "I just… almost had the feeling that he was here somewhere."

"Is that so?" The second figure said. "He must be in the guild, grieving over his lost comrade. Or perhaps, if he really is here, we could just kill him."

They both started walking again. "I was at the guild when they arrived, you know that? And I most definitely did not see any sign of grief on his face. Not in the slightest," the deep voiced man noted. "And killing him is not an option right now."

"Mm, that is somewhat true. But after I gave your letter to Elite Loretta, I saw him going to the library," said the other. "Besides, what will he be doing here, I'm this part of the lands?"

"You may be right, but never underestimate the Chained Regressor. This is a warning… Gideon,"

But Nolan didn't hear any of this.

… …

"They are gone now," Nolan said, trying to move, but the lady put her other hand on the wall, completely trapping him in place.

"You didn't even ask what my name was?" she said calmly, biting her bottom lip slightly.

Nolan stared at her blankly. She wasn't someone he didn't know. Matter of fact, he knew very well what she was trying to do and using his system confirmed it.

He was right after all.

"Selena Hars," Nolan voiced with a bored tone.

Her eyes widened immediately and she pulled back her hands, stepping back.

Selena Hars. An assassin who works for whoever drops more money on the table. She always found a way to get what she wanted, no matter what means she was going to use. Not excluding intimacy, which was her manipulative speciality.

Nolan was immune to this, because they had history across a few lives.

However, she was only known as Lena the Siren Assassin. No one really knew what her real name was.

"Who are you?" She pulled out twin daggers, ready to attack Nolan, her expression now somewhere between fear and anger.

Nolan ignored her question at first, copying the Talents. Well… he was going to need them, right?

He managed to copy Honeytongue with no trouble, but Irresistible Allure wanted to replace the talent, Friend.

'It's an upgrade or something?' he thought.

"Y"

"Answer my question," Selena hissed.

"Nolan. Nolan Dagmire," he said bluntly.

She looked away a bit, trying to see if any Nolan Dagmire was close enough to her to even know her real full name. Bringing up none, she looked at him again. "How do you know that name?"

"You want the actual truth or the believable truth?" he asked.

Selena tilted her head, a bit puzzled. She slowly dropped her hands and stood normal. "What do you mean?"

"The believable truth is I knew you back when we were little," Nolan replied.

She raised a brow and said, "And the actual truth?"

Nolan took a deep breath in through his nose and out through his mouth. He felt weird saying it, but… he just wasn't in the mood to cook up stories, so he was actually saying the truth.

Which was: "You were my wife."

Selena blinked. "Eh?"
