Regressed With A Copy System: Breaking the Loop

Chapter 37: Give Me Your Horse

"You were my wife."

Back in one of the early regressions, where Nolan was war general at Kingdom Morg, Selena was sent to him to collect an artifact.

Nolan subdued her easily and for the first time she felt helpless against her target. Though he ended up giving it to her just to see how it will be used, Selena always came back to him time after time.

Sometimes she sneaked to his chambers when he was out for air, so they could talk. And well… life picked up from there.

Selena blinked at Nolan's words. His wife? How? When? Why? She wasn't even thinking of ever getting married. "Eh? Who was your wife?" she said, looking behind her to see if Nolan was speaking with someone else.

"You have a scar made by a knife on your left thigh, yes?" Nolan asked bluntly.

"What?" Selena stepped back from Nolan, then she pointed her dagger again, squinting. "Are you a pervert who's been following me around? That's why you came here right?"

"Forget how I know you and tell me what's happening here?" Nolan prompted.

"Why should I? Did those royal bastards send you to monitor me?" she gritted.

'Ah, so it's the royal family's orders. Much expected. Now, how do I get her to speak? Aha,' Nolan thought. "Prince George made it clear I continue, if you fail."

He had already made a plan and used the name of Kingdom Morg's prince to aid it.

"What do you all take me for?" Selena scoffed, then she frowned. "And why are you wearing the uniform of the Cerulean Guardians of Kingdom Cloveland?"

"I needed to blend in, unlike you."

"But I was sent just yesterday, so—"

"Do you really think prince George will trust me enough if I had just started working for him today?"

Selena dropped her dagger, looking into Nolan's eyes like she was trying to see if he was lying through them, but she found none. Nolan was no novice when it came to lying and hiding it. "So, you've been his dog for long, I see," she voiced.

"So, what's happening?" Nolan asked.

"Aren't you supposed to know?" Selena rolled her eyes before turning around, backing him. "The humans working with the demons. They are planning on launching steady attacks on the three kingdoms."

"Humans working with the demons," Nolan repeated. That was another alteration in this timeline. Humans started working with demons after the Kraxus's death where the general offered humans chances to live if they joined him.

If calculations were right, then Kraxus is still alive. Unless… humans have always been working with the demons before then. His meta knowledge was really getting more and more unreliable at an incredible pace.

"Hello? Hey? Ice dagger man? Nolan?" Selena kept on snapping a finger at his face.

Nolan came back to his senses. He had just zoned out. "You were here to listen to the plan?"

"Yes. And at least see the faces of those men, so I can ask for more money," she glanced over her shoulder and winked, then bent down to pick up three stones by the hole's entrance. "But you ruined it. I didn't even get to hear the conclusion."

"What's that?" he asked.

"Illusory wall stones," she replied, putting them in the pouch tied to her waist. "You don't think they didn't catch us because it was a miracle, right?"

"Uhh, well… pfft, of course not," Nolan smiled. Yeah, he did think that.

She stepped out of the hole and started leaving.

"You're leaving?" Nolan asked, walking out as well.

"You want to go in there, where there's a large congregation of low-grades and ranked demons? Suit yourself, not me. The only extra information that would have paid was the faces of those men," she waved dismissively without turning.

Nolan walked behind her as they made for the cave's exit.

Immediately they left, Selena spun around and pinned Nolan the wall again with her elbow on his neck, while pointing a dagger to his face with her free hand.

Nolan looked at her blankly, then he raised an eyebrow.

"I wasn't sent by the prince, you bloody liar," Selena said. "Even my charm wasn't working on you. Who are you?"

Nolan smiled. "Someone you don't want to mess with."

She gritted and pressed. "Do I look like a joke to you?"

[Using Talent "Honeytongue"!]

"I'm not trying to fight you," Nolan barely voiced.

Selena's expression softened a little and she stopped pressing, although not completely removing the hand. Her own weapon was being used on her.

"Then what do you want from me?"

"Nothing really. I came here by accident anyways," Nolan said, with a slight shrug.

Selena pulled her hand away. "Accident, huh?"

Nolan nodded, now walking away. "You can carry on with your quest. I'll be leaving now."

Nolan left her there and walked over to find where he dropped the horse. "So, the owner of the talent can not resist it? This system is more interesting than I thought," he murmured.

A few seconds later, he spotted his horse and got on it, only to find Selena by the side. She had been following him?

"What?" he asked.

"They killed my horse," she replied, pointing to the side, not too far from where they were. A horse was lying there, in a pool of its own blood, with claw gashes on its body.

"So? How's that my problem?" Nolan looked back at her.

"I can't go back. Give me your horse 'husband.' Erk, tastes bad in my mouth," she spat.

Nolan raised a brow and snorted. "You were drooling over me a, wench," he muttered.

"What did you say?" Selena asked.

"I'm not giving you my horse."

"Why?"

"Because it's my horse. What are you thinking?"

"I'm a woman."

"And I'm a man."

"You're supposed to be a gentleman and give me your horse."

"How do you feel after saying this?" Nolan looked her up and down.

NEIGH!

Both of them turned to the horse, who had what they could interpret as an angry expression. The Wisher did tamper with the horse's head.

"I'm not giving you the horse," Nolan concluded, leaving.

… …

A minute later...

"You smell like ashes," Selena remarked, hands over Nolan's shoulders as they rode off.

"Shut up," he replied.

… …

At the very top of the cave, The Wisher floated, legs crossed and a wide grin stretched across her face. "Gather as many allies as you can this time. You can avoid the betrayals, Pathfinder. Severe those strings, and… wake everyone up."

With that she vanished into thin air, leaving sparkling yellow dust.
