Drake stared at the two tunnels in front of him, trying to remember the ones he had in his game. They were all different. Each dungeon had a different layout. This one was familiar, but it wasn't the same as one of the game's dungeons.
In the end, he decided to go to the right.
After going several feet down the right-side tunnel, he encountered something new. It wasn't a goblin this time, but he could tell it was just as strong, if not stronger. Slashing his whip, he struck the massive spider. It was the color of fresh blood.
The whip lashed toward the spider, but it was stopped by strange, large pincers at the top of its massive head. He had never seen a spider like that in the real world. Not that he paid much attention to spiders in the first place, but he couldn't think of one even close to resembling this one.
He lashed forward with his whip toward the spider. However, the metal whip slipped through the strange pincers as it tried to hang on to it. It couldn't do anything about the whip after Drake pulled it quickly, then lashed it out again. It sliced through just below where the spider caught the whip before.
It didn't do much damage to the massive spider. Blood seeped out of the shallow wound, blending in with its coloring.
The spider shot out a sticky web, which narrowly missed him, sticking on the wall beside him. He hated spiders to begin with, but this one solidified the hatred he felt for them.
Quickly wrapping his whip around his wrist and stuffing the sword into its scabbard, he yanked the bow off his back and notched an arrow. With careful aim, he let the arrow fly. It hit the spider directly in one of its many eyes. The spider shrieked in pain, backing up a few feet and using its two front legs to pull at the arrow, trying to dislodge it.
Drake notched a second one, aiming for another eye. He was attempting to shoot it hard enough for it to enter its brain. He didn't trust that it would go through the shell-like carapace of the spider.
Letting the second arrow fly, Drake smiled; it was a perfect aim. The spider shrieked louder. Drake groaned, knowing it had at least four more eyes to go after.
While the spider was distracted, trying desperately to remove the two arrows from its eyes, Drake took a chance and aimed another arrow at the head, targeting the brain. As soon as the arrow hit its mark, the spider turned into light particles, vanishing out of sight.
He heard the familiar clang of coins falling to the ground as he moved forward to collect the arrows he had shot at the spider.
"Just coins?" he mumbled. "That means there's more of these stupid spiders."
Drake quickly picked up his arrows and replaced them in the quiver before picking up the large pile of coins. It was five times more than the piles left by the goblins.
After walking for a while and killing several more spider beasts, he came to a set of stairs on his right. Cautiously, he moved forward, trying to get whatever was down there to come up to him. He didn't want to get caught fighting on the stairs. It was too dangerous.
Nothing came up from the stairs.
"Damn it!" he hissed, not wanting to go down the stairs. He was afraid of getting cornered by the beast hiding in the darkness of the room at the bottom of the stairs.
Replacing his bow, he uncoiled his whip, preparing to slash it again. Inching down the stairs, the darkness slowly evaporated as torches ignited, lighting his way. He didn't see anything in the large chamber that would attack him.
Making it all the way to the bottom of the stairs, he studied the room. There were still no beasts. A slime dripped onto the floor in front of him. He slowly looked up, afraid of what he might see. There was another spider; this one was much larger than all the others.
A thick web covered the entire ceiling. Taking one step back, Drake lashed his whip upwards, slicing at the enormous spider.
It shrieked in anger and launched out a spit of liquid web, trying to trap Drake.
Dropping his whip on the floor, he pulled the bow off his back and notched it with one of his arrows. He aimed at the head, then shot. The arrow struck the spider, sticking in the massive head. The spider shrieked in pain, shaking its gigantic head.
Drake notched another and let it fly. One after the other, he shot at the spider until it fell from the ceiling. Halfway down, it burst into light particles, leaving a book in its place. Drake scanned the room, looking for more beasts, but he didn't see any.
Cautiously, he picked up his whip and wrapped it around his wrist before collecting the arrows he used. Last, he picked up the book and opened it. It burst into light particles, then glowing white words materialized in the room in front of him. The system's voice echoed through the chamber.

{New Skill: Night vision}
{Night vision allows the ability to see in the darkness.}
Drake scanned the chamber, finding a fairly large emerald green chest. When he opened it, he gasped. It was a large, clear egg, which shimmered with a glittery emerald green dust. The egg sat on a bed of fluffy emerald silk. He could see a beast inside the egg. It looked like a small dragon or lizard. His instincts told him he needed to keep it. It would become one of his familiars if he could get it to hatch… he thought… maybe…
He smiled before carefully placing the egg on the bed of silk. He stared down at it for a while. Not closing the chest. He wondered if he could get it to hatch while he was in the dungeon.
Lightly moving his hand across the surface of the egg, small cracks began to form. "Come on, little one… hatch," he whispered.
The egg shook as the small beast inside moved about, trying to get free. Drake knew he couldn't help. It would weaken the beast inside. It had to do it on its own.
