Chapter 470: Chapter 470: A Little Guilty (2)
With that, Nathaniel Nathan strode out. Master Nathan called out from behind him, "That’s good, that’s good. You scared me to death! Come on back, I have something for you."
Nathaniel Nathan’s immediate reaction was that Master Nathan couldn’t possibly have anything good for him. But, knowing his grandfather’s personality, he resignedly turned back. Master Nathan handed him a small box. Inside were many small, somewhat flat items—a specialty product that accompanied a certain cultural export from the Island Nation.
Nathaniel Nathan stared speechlessly at Master Nathan, who just chuckled. "Young man, pace yourself. Don’t use them all at once."
Nathaniel Nathan looked at the box, which contained at least twenty of the little things. He was internally breaking down. ’My grandfather is really something else...’
’Who’s some kind of stud who could use this many in one go? Besides, things between me and Vera have always been quite proper.’
Master Nathan waved his hand with a carefree flourish. "Off you go!"
Nathaniel Nathan: "..."
’Grandpa, how am I supposed to handle this? Aren’t most elders supposed to be conservative about this kind of thing?’
Nathaniel Nathan knew the Preston Family had a lot of people, and Vera’s grandparents didn’t seem to think very highly of him. They wouldn’t let him stay long at the Preston residence, so he decided to just climb the wall.
However, his luck wasn’t great today. He had arrived a little too early. Vera’s grandmother was chatting with her about household matters, discussing their plan to drive Cara Preston out of the Preston Family. The Cheney Family had helped a great deal, so her grandmother was planning to bring them some eggs from home as a thank you for speaking out on their behalf.
Vera had no objections to her grandmother’s plans. Her grandmother was a shrewd woman who knew how to navigate complex situations and was incredibly experienced in the ways of the world.
Vera’s gaze happened to drift toward the window, where she saw Nathaniel Nathan’s face. She jumped, startled, but kept her expression neutral. She quickly said to her grandmother, "Grandma, you can handle all of that however you see fit. I don’t have any objections at all."
Her grandmother smiled. "My dear girl, you’re smart, but you’re still a little green when it comes to navigating the ways of the world. You have to understand, there’s a lot to learn about how people interact..."
"I know there’s a lot to learn," Vera said with a yawn. "But can I learn more from you tomorrow, Grandma? I don’t think I slept well the past few days, and I’m so sleepy right now!"
Her grandmother reached out and tapped her on the nose. Vera added, "And you must be tired too, Grandma. You went all the way to the countryside to catch bamboo rats today. You should get some rest!"
Seeing the dark circles under her granddaughter’s eyes, the grandmother’s heart ached for her. She nodded lightly. "If you’re tired, then get some rest. You’re still a growing girl, so don’t wear yourself out."
Vera naturally agreed to everything, just hoping her grandmother would leave quickly.
But just as her grandmother reached the door, she unexpectedly turned back. "We caught three bamboo rats today. I hear Master Nathan enjoys things like this, so you should take one over for him to try tomorrow."
Vera froze for a moment. Her grandmother winked at her. "Grandma has no objections about you and Nathaniel. If you want to become part of the Nathan Family, you’ll have to win over Master Nathan first. If he feels you’re fit to be Nathaniel’s wife, the rest will be easy."
The fact that Vera had run straight to the Nathan Family’s home the moment she returned had shown her grandmother that she was truly in love with Nathaniel. She had previously been against them being together, but only because of the vast disparity between their families.
