The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 755: Showcase Performance (Part 1)

Chapter 755: Chapter 755: Showcase Performance (Part 1)

"Of course I know," Winter said through gritted teeth. "I always used to think we hadn’t reached a breaking point, and I believed you loved me. But you probably don’t even realize how deeply what happened eighteen years ago hurt me."

"That was so many years ago. Can’t you let it go?" Julian asked, looking at her. "Besides, you’re really making a mountain out of a molehill this time. All that happened was I went to pick up Susan and forgot when you were being discharged. Do you really have to be this angry?"

In his eyes, she was just throwing a tantrum. The trigger for all this was simply him not picking her up from the hospital on time, and perhaps questioning her about it a bit too much.

’She was always so magnanimous, so why was she clinging to such minor issues? He just didn’t get it.’

"I can’t!" Winter’s chest heaved violently. "To you, it’s in the past. Over and done with. But for me, it’s something I can never let go of in this lifetime! And I don’t accept you calling this a ’molehill’ just because you failed to pick me up on time. I am your wife. I was in the hospital for a week, and you only visited me once. Julian, in your heart, I’m afraid I’ve long since become completely dispensable."

The incident had hurt her far more than Julian had ever anticipated. And now he thought a simple, "Can’t you let it go?" would be enough for her to move on. That was impossible.

Only now did she realize just how differently they saw things. This was the man she had lived with for over twenty years. A chill ran through her heart.

Seeing her reaction, Julian knew she was truly furious. His expression hardened. "I admit, what happened eighteen years ago was my fault. I wronged you. But I will absolutely not divorce you!"

Winter wasn’t surprised. She replied coldly, "It’s because a divorce would make you lose face, isn’t it? After all, to the outside world, we’re seen as a loving couple. A sudden divorce would certainly be a slap in the face for you. But it doesn’t matter. In my heart, as of today, we are officially divorced. I’ll take our son, you take our daughter. From now on, you go your way, and I’ll go mine."

With that, she turned and walked away without a backward glance.

Julian’s eyes filled with regret. He knew his words had been the final straw. What happened eighteen years ago had hurt her deeply. For years, the subject was never mentioned, and he had always been careful to avoid it.

But now, his words had revealed his true attitude toward it, at least in her mind: ’It’s in the past, so it doesn’t matter anymore.’

For all these years, their life had been peaceful simply because the topic was never raised. She was a bit cold toward him, but he had always chalked it up to her personality. ’Now, thinking back,’ he realized, ’it seems that wasn’t the whole story.’

He stood in the hallway, agitated. Looking back on his life, he appeared to have it all—a glamorous and wonderful existence. But only he knew the truth: that his heart was also filled with its own struggles and helplessness.

Winter walked out of the hospital alone, and the tears finally came.

’I really do love Julian,’ she thought. It was because she loved him that she had been able to endure what happened eighteen years ago and stay with him for so long. But that incident had long ago become a thorn in her heart, and today, it had been twisted, piercing her heart anew until it bled.

When an old wound is remembered, all the past grievances rush back to be settled along with the new.
