Chapter 4011: Inspecting The Vault With The Elders
Lin Mu listened to everything High Elder Palm Saber had to say without interrupting.
The elders explained the events surrounding Little Bull in considerable detail. They spoke about the accusations, the investigation, the conflict with the Law Division, and the strange circumstances surrounding the disciple’s disappearance.
Lin Mu already knew most of it. He had spent enough time investigating the matter himself to understand the broad situation, yet there was value in hearing the story from the perspective of Wild Peak.
More importantly, he needed to understand what evidence they had already uncovered.
When Palm Saber finally finished, Lin Mu stroked his long beard and nodded thoughtfully. "I understand."
The elders waited.
Lin Mu looked toward the entrance of the hall. "This old man will inspect the vault himself first."
Palm Saber immediately nodded. "We have already entered it."
"Did you find anything?"
Palm Saber’s expression became slightly bitter. "We searched it thoroughly after breaking through the defensive formations. Unfortunately, we found no trace of Little Bull."
Several elders nodded as they had personally participated in that search. They had checked the rooms, searched the storage areas, inspected the formations and had even searched several hidden sections that they knew about.
But the vault had yielded no direct evidence that could prove where Little Bull had gone after being imprisoned.
Lin Mu chuckled. "That is fine."
The elders looked at him.
"I have my methods." His words were simple.
His confidence, however, immediately reassured several people. After hearing about what Zhenyu had done against Daoist Bone Ruler, none of them doubted that he possessed methods they could not comprehend.
Palm Saber gestured toward the door. "Then let us go."
The group quickly left the main hall.
Several disciples wanted to follow, though Palm Saber ordered most of them to remain behind. The elders were going to investigate a matter concerning the peak’s internal affairs, and too many people wandering around would only create confusion.
Even so, a few senior disciples were permitted to accompany them. Lin Mu led the group toward the vault. The journey was short and soon, the enormous entrance came into view.
The defensive formations that once protected the vault had already been destroyed. Several traces of the damage were still visible. The formation patterns carved into the surrounding stone had been shattered, leaving deep cracks throughout the walls.
Wild Peak had deliberately left the damage untouched. They had been worried that repairing the formations would erase whatever evidence remained. That decision had made the vault vulnerable, yet there had been little choice.
The elders entered and Lin Mu followed. The moment he stepped inside, he immediately noticed several things. The vault was much more complicated than it appeared from the outside.
’Taegong seems to have made some changes.’ Lin Mu realized.
There were hidden pathways, concealed formations, some spatial distortions and several small defensive arrays had been cleverly embedded into the walls. Most of them were damaged and some were almost impossible to detect.
Lin Mu stopped and his eyes narrowed. "Interesting."
Palm Saber looked at him. "What is it?"
Lin Mu did not answer immediately. He raised one hand and a faint wave of Immortal Qi spread through the passage. Several seemingly ordinary stones suddenly lit up.
The elders stared. "What?"
Several formations appeared one after the other. The hidden formations had been so well concealed that even the elders of Wild Peak had failed to notice them.
High Elder Palm Saber’s expression became ugly. "There were formations here?"
Lin Mu chuckled. "There are quite a few."
He moved his fingers and the formations trembled. One after another, the concealed arrays broke apart. The elders watched in astonishment as Zhenyu’s movements were casual and there was no elaborate preparation.
He simply identified the formations and dismantled them.
After breaking through several hidden barriers, Lin Mu suddenly changed direction. "Follow me."
The group moved behind him. They passed through a narrow corridor that none of the elders remembered. The corridor eventually opened into a hidden chamber and there was a door. Lin Mu pushed it open and inside was a small office.
There was a desk, several shelves, a couple chairs and a few storage cabinets. The place had clearly been used by someone for a long time.
The elders stopped while Palm Saber stared. "What is this?"
Lin Mu looked around. "This is where Taegong used to stay."
The elders were stunned and several of them immediately began looking around.
"Taegong had an office here?"
"I never knew."
"How did the Vault Division create a place like this without telling us?"
One of the elders became visibly irritated. "The Vault Division has some explaining to do."
Another elder cursed under his breath. "Those bastards keep making hidden rooms and never tell the people who actually manage the peak."
Lin Mu chuckled. "These are mere tricks." He walked farther into the room. "They are useful for hiding things from ordinary eyes. Against someone who knows what to look for, they are meaningless."
The elders fell silent as they understood what he meant. Zhenyu had dismantled formations they had never even known existed. That alone was enough to make them feel somewhat embarrassed.
Palm Saber looked around. "If Taegong stayed here, there should be something."
He searched the room and the others followed. They opened cabinets, checked shelves, inspected the desk, and some even cracked open a few tiles on the floor. But they found nothing.
Most of the documents had been removed. Several storage containers had been emptied. Even the smaller personal objects were gone.
Palm Saber’s expression became increasingly grim. "Everything has been cleared."
Lin Mu nodded. "It makes sense." He slowly looked around. "Whoever did this would have wanted to remove every trace."
The elders frowned and one of them sighed. "Then how are we supposed to find Little Bull’s tracks? We already searched this place before, and there is nothing here."
Another elder nodded. "We cannot even tell where Taegong went after the incident."
