Chapter 3391: Demon Record (14)

Chapter 3391: Demon Record (14)

An Yujun seemed completely unconcerned about her own condition as she stepped between Ning Shu and the snake king and stopped the two of them from resuming their fight.

“Please don’t fight anymore. I’m grateful to you for saving me,” An Yujun said to Ning Shu. Then, she turned to the snake king and said, “He really did save me.”

Ning Shu felt like she’d just been struck by the absurdity of it all. Who wanted to hear her talk? Her flesh was being corroded away. Give it a little more time and even her bones would dissolve.

After that, it would be her organs.

Did she even have any chance of survival left?

Ning Shu didn’t want to hear An Yujun ramble on.

She kept rinsing her wounds with clean water. The pain was scorching, like sulphuric acid being poured over her skin.

“Give me the anti-venom,” Ning Shu said coldly. “Otherwise, none of you are leaving here today.”

The snake king gave a sinister smile. “Anti-venom? There is no anti-venom. Anyone envenomed by me is doomed to die.”

Ning Shu wasn’t intimidated. She adjusted her glasses.

“If I’m going to die, then I’m dragging your whole family of four down with me,” she said flatly. “Running into you people is the worst luck I’ve had in several lifetimes.”

“I’ve already set up a barrier around this place. If you want to leave, you’ll need time to break it. Let’s see which of us dies first.”

Ning Shu sat cross-legged on the floor, staring down at her mangled chest, from which blood was dripping.

At least she was a man. If she were a woman, her chest…

Seeing how uncompromising Ning Shu was, An Yujun couldn’t help but look towards the snake king.

His expression had grown heavy, and no longer as relaxed as before.

The snake king had always been confident in his own strength. After all, he’d infiltrated the Special Investigation Bureau alone and stolen what he wanted. He just hadn’t expected to stumble because of this unremarkable-looking mountain eagle.

Even though this eagle had been envenomed and would soon melt into a puddle of green liquid, the snake king still felt stifled and irritated by him.

And the people from the Special Investigation Bureau would be arriving soon. This wasn’t the time to get entangled with this eagle.

The snake king transformed back into a snake. He coiled around An Yujun and prepared to retreat with his wife and children.

He wanted to leave, just like that? Wishful thinking.

Ning Shu’s hand turned into a claw again. She slashed hard across the snake king’s body and tore open a wound. Blood sprayed out from it.

The snake king hissed. He was then blocked again by the barrier of water.

He was furious. He thought this person was like chewing gum stuck to his shoe—impossible to shake off. He had far more important things to do.

Ning Shu’s chest throbbed with agony. While gritting her teeth, she grabbed the snake king’s tail and clawed at it relentlessly. Every strike sent blood splattering.

An Yujun watched the scene with a deathly pale face. She stared at Ning Shu in horror.

This person was terrifying.

The snake king rammed the barrier several times but failed to break through. Instead, he suffered several more wounds from Ning Shu.

He lashed his tail, sending a massive force crashing towards her.

Ning Shu dodged quickly. The snake’s tail slammed into the floor. The entire building shook twice, and cracks spread across the floor.

The fight was brutally intense. Blood flew everywhere. The walls and floor of the living room were smeared red.

The snake king had to fight Ning Shu while also trying to break the formation.

Ning Shu could tell he was getting anxious and desperate to leave.

She touched the water barrier with her fingers and thickened it further.

If it came to it, they’d all die together. Damn it, her chest hurt so badly.

Her ribs felt like they were about to turn into soft, tender spare ribs.

At this level of combat, the two little snakes couldn’t participate at all. As for An Yujun, a fight this bloody had terrified her senseless long ago.

The snake king transformed back into human form, drenched head to toe in blood, like a walking mass of gore.

His narrow eyes stared darkly at Ning Shu. His vertical pupils contracted and expanded, radiating danger.

No one spoke. The atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.

Ning Shu’s chest had become even more mangled. The venom was still seeping deeper into her body. Even detox pills wouldn’t help at this point.

Ning Shu steeled herself, then took out a knife and shaved off the rotting flesh in front of her chest, in an attempt to stop the venom from spreading to her organs.

Watching Ning Shu carve away her own flesh, until black blood was flowing out and dripping onto the floor, was horrifying.

An Yujun’s eyes rolled back, and she fainted.

Her body had already been weak. She was barefoot, had watched the fierce battle for so long, and now saw Ning Shu cutting into herself. The shock was too much.

The snake king caught An Yujun in his arms and looked at Ning Shu. “Are you really not letting us go today?”

Ning Shu replied, “I already said it. Give me the anti-venom, and I’ll let you leave. Otherwise, no one’s going anywhere today.”

The grudge between them had already been formed. Snakes were sinister and cunning by nature, not exactly broad-minded creatures.

Ning Shu didn’t believe the snake king would ever let her off.

And since he was in such a hurry to leave—whatever the reason—stalling him for as long as possible was worth it.

Carving flesh hurt like hell. Ning Shu cried out in pain again and again, filling the room with her not-so-graceful wails.

The little white snake wanted to mock her, but couldn’t bring itself to speak.

No matter how foolish it was, it knew by now that this blind eagle wasn’t weak. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be trapped here, unable to leave.

The white snake bared its teeth.

If you were this strong, you could’ve said so earlier. Why’d you act like a timid little chick all this time?

The snake king stared at Ning Shu. Someone who could be so ruthless to themselves—there was no telling what they’d do to others.

Such a person was vicious. The snake king narrowed his long eyes as he watched her.

Ning Shu looked at her chest. At last, fresh red blood was flowing out. She hadn’t just peeled off one layer of skin—she’d stripped off several.

It hurt like hell. Ning Shu’s face was deathly pale as she leaned against the wall. She felt like her life was slipping away.

She adjusted her glasses. Seeing the snake king staring at her, she smiled at him and said, “What are you looking at? I don’t need the anti-venom anymore anyway. Let’s just wait it out—wait until the people chasing you get here.”

The snake king held An Yujun in his arms. A small black snake and a small white snake were coiled on his shoulders, both flicking their tongues.

“I admit someone is chasing me,” the snake king suddenly said. “But when they arrive, you won’t fare any better.”

Ning Shu’s eyes shifted. “The Special Investigation Bureau, right? Even if it’s them, I haven’t done anything heinous—no murder, no atrocities. They can’t do much to me.”

“You’re wrong,” the snake king said. “The purpose of the Special Investigation Bureau is to eliminate powerful demons. Given your strength, it won’t be long before you’re listed as a target to be killed.”

He didn’t look like he was lying. Ning Shu remained calm and said lightly, “So what?

“Rather than fighting to the death and letting the Special Investigation Bureau reap the benefits—”

“Do you know how much humans, especially those at the top of the power structure, crave immortality?” the snake king said to Ning Shu. “Creatures like us are their test subjects. They want to uncover the secret of how we live for hundreds of years.”

That was interesting.

The creation of a secret organization like the Special Investigation Bureau clearly served some deeper purpose.

Ning Shu’s expression didn’t change. “So?”

“So there’s no meaning in us killing each other.”
